I'm hoping to tap into the wealth of knowledge here... I bought a delivery truck that has a fiberglass box. The sticker advertising the previous company was peeled off, but still shows (very obvious). The paint on the box is about 5 years old (2002 model). Now the problem: I've tried wet sanding with a 600 grit and using a buffing compound (starting w/ mediuim) to rejuvinate the chalky surface, but I can see pigment left behind from the buffing compound. I don't recall the brand of compound, but the color is slighltly tan, which is the hazy color left behind. I've tried to remove with a hand glaze, but no luck.

Does anyone have a solution (or possible solution)? The surface is relatively glossy and most of the last traces of the previous advertisment label is gone, but the change in color is not something I would like to live with. I forgot to mention earlier, I am using a 6" machine buffer for the job.

spray a mist of water on the sides and try to buff that way and see if your marks disappear. Also, try wiping the area with wax and grease remover and see if this helps.

try a finer sandpaper too ... gradually move up to around 1000-1200 grit before buffing.
