Is that semi gloss black?

72CSTC5
10-29-2006, 08:22 PM
Yes, semigloss black on the core support. It was painted for my 72 2wd Blazer but parts are being borrowed for the truck. The red is corvette torch red varaint #2 lighter than prime. That is not going to be the color of the truck though. I just chose a PPG Vibrance custom color Friday to paint the truck two tone orange pearl and white pearl. I am just using these fenders since they were rust free and I will drill and add the moldings back to them.

Yeah, I will post some pics of the orange pearl color tomorrow night when I get home. I will cut in the inside of the fender that I have at work for the little woman at home so she can approve the color, I know, I dont want to hear it.....

Approve the color? Well since she was your paint rep at one time I guess she does know more about color than you!

Oh and wheres the pictures of the air ride, wheels and tires?

That is coming I need to talk to you in more detail Keith if that is okay? I will email you outside of here for lengthy list of what I need. I am ready I think. Just wanted to get some of the body done first. I knew someone was going to hammer me on the color approval, may as well been you!

I can't believe I have missed this post this long. It's good to see your getting some work done on the truck. The core support came out nice. The fenders look slick too.

I can't believe your going to paint it pearl orange rather than bright red. Oh wait, I forgot that wasn't your decision....;)

Saving the red for the Blazer!!!!!!!! Save the Peral Orange for the Blazer so it doesn't look like all the other red Blazers out there.

Yeah, I know it's not going to look like all the others....:)

Getting some more work done on the truck. Told the girl about the board meet and just mentioned it in passing about maybe wanting to go, then she said, "what are you going to go in?" Smart butt. So here I go again working on the driver. I picked up some virgin rust free sheet metal on Monday and still wasn't really feeling good from being sick so just started on it today. I also cleaned out the inside of my Blazer. Check out that rust free floor!!:)

More work that is going on with this project. Trying to get everything done on the passenger side first and then turn the truck around to do the drivers side. Sux working in tight confines of your garage. Blazer is next to the truck so no room.

must save lots of money doing your own bodywork

72CSTC5
03-01-2007, 10:36 AM
It definitely helps and these projects still cost a lot of money. Plus I know how some of you all have to deal with the bodyshops taking so long to get your stuff done. If I could make good money doing this I would give up my bodyshop manager job.

I saw the pics of your truck yesterday on another post and my jaw dropped. That is gorgeous. You are right that is a killer 71. The truck I have is a louisiana truck.

Appreciate cha! I'm from shreveport, where in louisiana did your truck come from?

North Louisiana, It came from Huggercst and then got to STP 67-72 and then I bought it from him. Still had the metal warranty card and all.

It's originally from the Monroe area. I bought it from an elderly gentleman that bought it new, and he hated to see it go. You're making some good progress on it, I can't wait to see it finished.
Killer71- I love your truck, blue & white is one of my favorites too. I'll have to get over there & look at it sometime. Mine will be very similar, but orange & white. I'm just east of Ruston.

Thanx hugger CST for looking! I actually bought mine from an elderly man in florida. Drove 1700 miles to get it and trailer it home. Have had lots of fun playing with it. Would be glad to see ya!

Oh, just wanted to add that I just picked up some more parts from Mike at Mikes Bump and Grind Garage. He is a site vendor on here too. Super nice guy to deal with and had the best prices from anyone and good product too. Any local guys it would be worth the money you save to pick up your parts!!

This is about all that I have right now. Poor truck. This was taken a few months ago. I got some work done over the holidays, and have my bed on it now, it just needs a little more bodywork, paint, and assembly. The drivetrain and interior are pretty much ready. I'm hoping to have most everything done by this fall, and (hopefully) make it down to Cruisin the coast.

Finally got the passenger side floor welded in. Have been busy with the new job, long hours right now and finally finished my neighbors Harley Davidson paint job. Got to spend some time with the truck tonight. Still going, want to finish the rocker and kick panel before I go to bed.

Check out the air clean on this 57chevy I saw at the races.

Okay more progress on my cheyenne. Finally got the rt side rocker welded in today. Fit pretty good, did not need much adjustment and got the right side fender just on with a couple of bolts. Starting to look like a truck again. Up in the air about painting the firewall the color of the truck. Told myself wasn't going to tear this one down all the way. What do you guys think. Pull the motor and paint the firewall or just black it out? Want to drive this thing painted this summer.

My hats off to you guys that have to do rockers....I lucked out! Looks like you're making some good progress.

Thanks, I am not quite to the point you are Sacto but getting there. I have been searching for rust free metal and I am almost there. I picked up a tailgate a few weeks ago from board member STP67-72 and found a rust free front end a while back too. The only thing rusty now is the floors, rocker, and cab corners.

Progress is a good thing! Funny thing is rockers and a floor section should only take me about 8hrs to do one side but my own truck took 7yrs to do:lol:

This is true, however when I do something for someone it seems like it gets done quick and comes out really nice. When I do something for myself it seems if they thought process gets in the way too much and ends up taking twice as much time.

I don't know about you, but it always embarrassed me to have a nice paint job on the outside and dirty under the hood. My 2 cent opinion.

Seems like everyone always wants to look under the hood.

Carlos I say cover the motor and spray everything satin black. Get it on the road and enjoy this cruisin season. You can always come back and do the motor later...:)

04-16-2007, 10:05 AM
That's what I keep thinking as well. I have a mechanic here at my new job that will pull it for me. I am just afraid once I pull the motor that I will have to redo that too!!

72CSTC5

You know what Ken, I may do that instead. You just changed my mind.

I have even been working on mine too! I was going to replace both bedsides on my truck but I decided since I was a bodyman at heart I would strighten the one I had.

72CSTC5

I see you all are throwing builds in one section. You can dump mine in there if you would like. How can I change the thread name as well as my build?

72CSTC5
07-25-2007, 08:27 PM
As I made this my official build thread for my truck too, I am attaching some pictures of when I originally bought the truck. Going to convert to HEI, already have everything, plugs, and wires included. Replaced a couple of leaky fuel lines. Did a little clean up of the motor but needs to be finished. I have purchased air bags and fittings, still need compressor, valves, tank and controller. I am going to run Intro Retros on the truck. Running 22x10's in the rear with 20x8's in the front. Going to run bolt in notch in the rear. Want to save the metal floor bed, it is too clean. The interior will be COMPLETELY orange to go with the Lexus pearl white, and PPG Vibrance Metallic Orange exterior. Going to run all the factory trim and emblems as well. Running the all factory stock running gear for now while the complete posi rebuilt rear gets done and the 5.3L swap maybe the end of the year or next summer. I have the ORIGINAL title with the original owners name attached and proctecto-plate and owners manual. I have changed the front clip for another rust free unit I found too as well as a rust free core support. I picked up a nice straight tailgate too. Will keep you updated as I try to finish 3 trucks at once!!!!!!!

Like I said, I do everyone elses but mine it always seems like. It has another tailgate on it now and the cab is all sanded and bodywork started on the cab. I have little to do to the front fenders, like two dings and one small ding in the hood. The inner and outer grille are GM NOS! I have the front bumper rechromed too ready to go. I am going to PM Mike at bump and grind garage to order me a left boxside too. Thanks for the compliments guys.

Removed all of the trim and stripped the cab to bare metal, epoxy primed and started on the bodywork. Bed is off of the truck and stripped the back half of the frame and painted. Need to send an extra rearend I have with a new auburn posi unit and complete everything new to be built and painted along with some rear trailing arms I had blasted and painted installed with rear bags and c-notch as well. That should get the rear looking good. Will post some pics when I get time of the progress.
