I also got the cab mounts in.I might have the cab on tomorrow.I dont know yet... 1969k10stepside 07-24-2007, 10:05 PM Well, back on the cab goes.Unplanned I decided to put the cab on.After fighting trying to get it over the tall chassis it finally got in the area it needed to go and after fighting with it trying to get the bolt holes aligned for the mounts,I finally got them on...If only I had brake lines in the front,I could drive it around.. Will try to get some pics tomorrow. Its dark now... 1969k10stepside 07-25-2007, 10:28 AM Here is a pic of the motor in the chassis. The first time in months or years for that matter the truck has had a cab on with a complete drivetrain installed too. 285525 What it looks like now: 285526 I cut out the bad spot of the bed floor crossmember 285527 New piece ready to be welded in 285528 1969k10stepside 07-25-2007, 10:32 AM The free tilt column installed 285529 Of course the $100 bucket seats in need of repair:rolleyes: 285530 The other seat 285531 The half restored console.I just need to patch one more hole and paint it all.BTW,inside the console is my black seat belts for it to be installed after the rust is done being fixed in the cab. 285532 Stepside65 07-25-2007, 11:04 AM It's comming along very nicely. What part of Indiana are you from? 1969k10stepside 07-25-2007, 11:12 AM Thanks. I'm in south western Indiana.About an hour or so north of the Kentucky border 1969k10stepside 07-31-2007, 04:16 PM I've done a little more work on the truck the last few days.I finished cutting, grinding, and welding in the crossmember section and welded the new piece in that goes behind the wheel tub on the bedside.I'd like to get the bed on and take a few pics to show the people I bought the lift from, since something still isnt right...hopefully they send me 6" lift springs for the front as the back already looks to be a 6" lift and I'd rather have it higher in the front than lower... Yukon Jack 07-31-2007, 04:32 PM Motor looks great installed. Cool that you got a tilt . . . can't beat free! 1969k10stepside 07-31-2007, 10:38 PM Nope, you cant beat free...I wish all the other stuff I want for it was free too!:o I managed to get the bed back on..I only got a few pics taken though, the camera was eating up the battery power quick! So,this is officially the most together it has ever been and the bed still needs wheel tubs, and tailgate installed as well as inner fenders on the front.I also found someone who will sandblast the truck in prep for paint..As seen in the pics, the truck still isnt sitting quite level.I hope to change that one way or another... 287514 287515 287516 1969k10stepside 08-05-2007, 10:27 AM I did some more work on the bed.I was cleaning the passenger side to bare metal and came across alot of bondo. There was a dent in the tail light area but it wasnt that bad.I think someone just went crazy with the bondo..Here are some pics 288370 288369 1969k10stepside 08-06-2007, 09:05 PM After months, the truck sits how I want it to be,level. I've done some more minor work like tightening the tranny pan bolts down as a few were loose causing a small leak, the pinion seal was leaking so I took a hammer and punch and seated it in position, and the timing cover bolts were loose causing a small leak but all is fixed now  1969k10stepside 08-07-2007, 02:18 PM I had the truck out side...It's gettin' there. 289011 289012 289013 BACKYARD88 08-07-2007, 02:52 PM Wow, that looks super great compared to what you started with. :cong: Spanky_Pete 08-07-2007, 03:50 PM Looking good, the lift and wheels/tires are perfect. :D It makes me waffle on whether or not to put a '68 front end back on mine or go with the '72 front clip I have handy. 67ChevyRedneck 08-07-2007, 03:53 PM As much as I LOVE the 67-68 trucks... a 4x4 just looks right with a 71/72 clip! Haven't checked in in a while, lookin great dustin! Frizzle Fry 08-07-2007, 06:06 PM Looking good :gi: 1969k10stepside 08-07-2007, 07:54 PM Wow, that looks super great compared to what you started with. :cong: Thanks, yeah it looks alot different and better than it did 13 months ago. Looking good, the lift and wheels/tires are perfect. :D It makes me waffle on whether or not to put a '68 front end back on mine or go with the '72 front clip I have handy. I vote 71-72 :D.I think they look the best for the 4wds. As much as I LOVE the 67-68 trucks... a 4x4 just looks right with a 71/72 clip! Haven't checked in in a while, lookin great dustin! Thanks Looking good :gi: Thanks 1969k10stepside 08-07-2007, 08:00 PM Just a few more pics....In the last one you can sorta see the brake lines I bent because I'm too cheap to buy pre bent ones :sexy:The truck needs alot of body work still before paint but thats the price you pay when all the sheet metal you see in the pics are original :metal: 289060 289061 289062 BurnoutNova 08-08-2007, 06:23 PM what kind of wheels are those? M/T classic II's ? 1969k10stepside 08-08-2007, 07:09 PM They are eagle alloy rims.I forget which kind they are though. For some reason I want to think the kind like this is discontinued but there is another one that looks close to the same. BurnoutNova 08-09-2007, 05:33 PM the reason i asked is because i bought some m/t's and thought they looked very similar.. they look great 1969k10stepside 08-29-2007, 10:10 PM Well,I havent done any work on this lately.I've been doing some work on the 72 K5 so this was collecting dust till more parts came.I've been searching for some cheap auto tranny linkages for a 4wd. (4wd specific part). I was going to use the ones from the k5 since it is going to be a 4spd but it had a B&M shifter installed so it didnt have the stock linkages,so I thought.I was under the k5 today and to my amazement it had the one piece still bolted to the column that I need, the 4wd specific part. So,now I can use that piece, along with 2wd parts to finish up the linkages for the tranny.I also got my front brake lines so as soon as I get the front clip off, they can go on.After that I should be able to atleast drive it around. 1969k10stepside 09-06-2007, 10:01 PM Well,I got the tranny linkages hooked up finally..The front brake lines dont fit though,as they were for a pre 70 or 71 4wd..So,I've got some brake line bending to do..I got a np205 shift knob for it today,too...I might get some more cab work done on it this weekend too.. samwise68 09-07-2007, 11:39 AM wow, looks great! i love the stance of the truck. and, i'm not much for short beds...but. i must admit. thats a sharp looking piece! all original. and all done yourself. it doesn't get much better than that. keep up the good work! -Sam. 1969k10stepside 09-07-2007, 11:30 PM Thanks... I done some more work tonight, hooking the brake booster/master cylinder up and ran one of the brake lines in the firewall area.I need some more lines, unions, and a "T" and that should finish up the brakes and hopefully then it can be drove in and out of the shop safely.. abebummy26 09-08-2007, 10:44 AM How are you going to patch the holes in the console? I spoke to my body man. He told me that it wouldn't look right because of the texture on the console. So it would be shiny in the spots where you patch it. So it will never look normal. 1969k10stepside 09-08-2007, 09:44 PM The holes to patch arent that big,and the texture doesnt bother me as you wouldnt notice the patched areas on mine once the console is in the truck..Dont know about the colors not matching up,I hope with the primer under the paint,it alows it all to be one color. Today...I bought and put on the brake lines,a little more work tomorrow and I'll hopefully be done with the brake lines.I also got a tranny cooler to use,so maybe by tomorrow the truck will be mobile.. abebummy26 09-08-2007, 10:16 PM My body man told me color would be fine with color match. 1969k10stepside 09-12-2007, 10:08 PM A little more work on it,still screwing with brake lines..I should finish them up tomorrow, bleed the system and be done..Bending and cutting your own lines is time consuming but it beats buying pre bent lines..I've got about 3' of line left to bend and them I'm done with the brakes and back to body work.. I also hooked up the metal line from the gas tank to the fuel pump.. 1969k10stepside 09-15-2007, 08:53 PM Well, finished up the brake lines but had to order a new master cylinder, which should be here tomorrow.I also started hooking up wiring and ran the tranny cooler lines. It should be moving and stopping by tomorrow for the first time in years!! 1969k10stepside 09-16-2007, 09:17 PM The trans cooler is now hooked to the tranny cooler lines, the brakes are done and bled, and now just have some wiring to hook up and it'll move under it's own power and stop/start. 1969k10stepside 09-18-2007, 11:13 PM Well, the brake caliper on the passenger side had to be replaced due to the bleeder not coming off,so after fighting with the reman I got being from a newer axle with a metric banjo bolt, and mine being standard,I finally got the new caliper hooked up and the brakes officially done..Now,the van tilt was in but I never installed the truck firewall gasket and metal plate on it since the van one is different but did that tonight.I also did a little more wiring.I just have to hook up the wires from the starter to the main wiring, and it should be ready to go! :) msgross 09-19-2007, 12:52 AM corp10's used the metric version of the brake caliper banjo bolt...dana's had the standard 1969k10stepside 09-19-2007, 11:07 PM Yep,that's what caused this whole event..I guess they dont realize the difference..I talked about the whole caliper issue in the 4wd Section. I finished up the wiring, and it started up and rattled all of Southern Indiana!! :lol:The truck hadnt been started since early July but that didnt affect the performance, big block power and throttle response, small block look :) I had to take the throttle linkages back off as they arent right but should have that issue fixed by the weekend. 1969k10stepside 09-20-2007, 11:20 PM Well,I did some more work on the truck, fixing the issue of the gas not getting to the carb (clogged line) and I got it started up and drove it around some..I will try to get a video, and some pics by the weekend 1969k10stepside 09-22-2007, 05:04 PM I had it outside so I took some new pics 301582 301583 1969k10stepside 09-30-2007, 10:28 PM I done a little more work to it..The transfer case started leaking from the inspection cover so it got a new gasket.I've been doing more body work on the bed for it and the rest of it while it waits to be sent off to be painted. 1969k10stepside 10-29-2007, 06:53 PM Well,a new set of front springs are on the way.The reason it wasn't sitting level was because the front springs weren't arched enough.Rough country listened to me finally, and sent some new ones free of charge. The new ones will be here next week so hopefully they are on,and the truck is sitting level by next weekend. There isn't much left of it right now though.I pulled the fenders and doors off, pulled the bed back and started cutting out the floor, and cab corners, and rockers to be replaced. All but one piece I need is here,so hopefully it looks like a cab again in a week or so.I have to replace both cab corners and rockers,6" from the rockers on the floor pan,the cab supports front and back, and the rear floor above the cab supports. 1969k10stepside 11-01-2007, 08:54 PM All the rust but in the floor is cut out..most of the new steel is in,some still isn't.As soon as I swap the front springs out,I can start getting the cab looking like a cab again, but with cab corners, and rocker panels, and a solid floor it hasn't had for 20 years.. 311220 311221 Isn't much left of it at this point..The body is laying on 6x6's on top of the frame now. 311222 1969k10stepside 11-05-2007, 08:25 PM I'm still cutting up on the cab,and getting more parts in.I just bought bumper brackets since I didn't have any,and might also be getting a set of 71-72 bucket seats for it.I'd like to also get a set of tow hooks for this as my christmas present to myself too. msgross 11-05-2007, 08:34 PM keep a lot of pics... i'll be doing this next spring, nice to make some progress isn't it? 1969k10stepside 11-11-2007, 08:37 PM Well, all the body parts are here now..Now I just have to get the cab back to looking like a cab.My front bumper brackets that took a few months to find finally arrived.(How many 71-72 4wds do you see being parted out that have good bumper brackets?) Jay_Shy hooked me up with some from a '72 Blazer.I put the new front springs on but the truck didn't level out.I think it needs a set of 6" lift front springs, meaning that the back must be a 6" lift spring..I'm calling them again tomorrow,I'll see what they say. It could use a little more lift in the front,I'm afraid I'll take out the fender cups with the Pro Comps... 313661 1969k10stepside 11-12-2007, 08:58 PM Here is what it may look like in the end. This was see ten's K10 I changed the color of to a dark blue.It may have a two tone,or may just be one color with no trim..I can't decide. 313921 ChaseDale3and8 11-12-2007, 11:01 PM I've been watching your build for a while and I like the direction that it's going. It will be a really nice 4x4 when you get done. I personally like the two tone paint jobs with the trim on this generation of GM truck. :metal:...Joe 1969k10stepside 11-13-2007, 05:34 PM Done some more body work today..I hope to get the drivers side done tomorrow, and see how it all lines up (Hopefully very good) and then move to the passenger side..And then it'll be a rust free '71 K10 SWB fleetside :metal: 1969k10stepside 11-17-2007, 09:16 PM Well, the new front suspension is done..The drivers side of the cab may have been done too but the air compressor broke and I had to fab up a reed valve to go in it..it's fixed now,so I can get going on the cab again this weekend 1969k10stepside 11-21-2007, 09:37 PM A little more work done on it..Still working on the cab..I wish I had a plasma cutter to speed things up,but I don't so the air tools will have to do..I'm getting closer to finishing the cab,I just don't want to make anything permanent cab corner/rocker wise till the door is back on so I can see if it all lines up..No pics,I don't want the camera anywhere near the shop with all the sparks flying. 1969k10stepside 11-23-2007, 11:38 AM Bought these today..they will find a home on the K/5 for now until the K/10 is back together then they are going on it. 316341 FRENCHBLUE72 11-23-2007, 12:00 PM Sweeet hooooks.. 1969k10stepside 11-27-2007, 07:39 PM More body work done..Still cutting out the rusty bottom half of the cab.The drivers side is almost done..I have to finish the floor/cab supports on the other side so I can get the cab back down on the frame to put on the fenders and check alignment before the rockers/cab corners are all in...Do I wish I had a better cab to start with? Yes..but this cab was free, and only have $150 max in the cab...Would I pay someone a outrageous amount to do the same work? No...It's easy if you can weld, have the tools, the place, and the knowledge to piece a truck together...I wonder how much would be in the truck by now if I took it somewhere and payed them to do the work? I'd say 15k as is now, before paint, and body work is done...I had the person over who will probably paint the truck,he looked the cab all over before I started permanently welding stuff in and he said it looked alright so I can't be doing too much wrong... 1969k10stepside 12-03-2007, 10:45 AM ..It was only a matter of time till they were put on. 318779 CUSTOM/10 12-03-2007, 10:48 AM Is that how they go ??? Guess I"ll have to turn mine around!!!:lol: Gary 1969k10stepside 12-03-2007, 09:00 PM Guess so..I don't know which way they are suppose to point though.I think they both point out... Got the cab lowered back on the frame...Got the fenders on so I can align the rockers before welding them in..I finished cutting out the floor and got one of the front cab supports in..I only have one left to do,put in the floor, and weld everything together...I got the tranny linkages hooked back up,the steering hooked back up,and had a minor oil leak from the pan due to a loose bolt,so I tightened it.. Hey Gary, don't you just love these short 4wds? I just have to remember after this one is done I've got the '72 GMC K1500 short step to work on..and by the time it's done I'll have another to work on.. prg machine 12-04-2007, 07:09 PM Here is what it may look like in the end. This was see ten's K10 I changed the color of to a dark blue.It may have a two tone,or may just be one color with no trim..I can't decide. 313921 I like the flat black better:) CUSTOM/10 12-04-2007, 07:38 PM Yes I do !!!! I have owned 4 70-72 SWD 4x4's since 1983 and love them !!! It's more like an adiction. Their built tuff, great looks, I guess it's like finding the right woman, you fall in love with them !!! Gary 1969k10stepside 12-10-2007, 08:43 PM Still doing body work in my spare time...Got the floor almost all welded in.The rockers are lined up,and are ready to be welded.I still have to get the passenger side cab corner lined up and then it and the rocker can be welded in.Passenger side floor is in,and drivers side is ready to go in. 1969k10stepside 12-16-2007, 02:54 PM Cab corners and rockers are done..Just have to do a little trimming on the drivers side floor pan, weld it in,and it's done..Got the front driveshaft on today..It just needs paint. 321948 1969k10stepside 12-29-2007, 07:23 AM Still doing body work..mainly just getting things to a point I'm satisfied with. The passenger side is about 95% done and the drivers side is about 80% done..I just got tired of doing body work and did some work on other vehicles like the '72 Blazer..I did finally buy a 650 Edelbrock carb but don't have it hooked up.I haven't heard the motor run with it though since I've got the tank out since I'm still welding in the cab. heavy71chevy 12-29-2007, 07:50 AM man that rigs come along way...very nice work freind...take pride in that beauty 1969k10stepside 12-29-2007, 12:56 PM Yep,it's came a long way but I hope to go alot farther with it! I went back out to the shop and did some more work.I never painted the pulleys and fan so I took them off and painted them.I also painted the front bumper brackets since I didn't before.I ran out of paint though so I didn't get the driveshaft painted.I hope to get it painted this weekend. FRENCHBLUE72 12-29-2007, 01:46 PM Looks good keep up the good work.. 1969k10stepside 12-31-2007, 04:52 PM I got the carb bolted on today. But the kickdown and throttle linkages won't work with the stock brackets.I guess I'll look for some that do.I did get more paint today so I've got some painting to do on driveshafts, bumper brackets, and some other stuff I haven't painted. 1969k10stepside 01-14-2008, 12:57 PM Went to Advanced Auto while I was in town today (Looking at new Z71s..) and got me the Edelbrock throttle/kickdown/cruise control bracket.I put it on but I had to trim one corner.I found it kind of odd I had to do that since the bracket, intake, and valve covers were Edelbrock but oh well...Got it bolted on and now I have a throttle and the kickdown works.I finished painting the driveshafts.I finished the passenger side except for one spot around the kick panel and then I ran out of welding gas.Got the tank filled today..I am almost done with the drivers side rocker and cab corner.Just some welding and grinding and they will be done. Then finish welding around the floor and finish the front cab support. Both doors open and shut easily now!I hope to have some primer on this by the end of the month. 1969k10stepside 01-14-2008, 01:19 PM BTW,here's pics of the 2 current projects. They both started as $350 4wds,but the Blazer was complete and running. As soon as I get the body work done and the body in primer I'm getting the blazer in the shop and getting the 4" lift installed I've had sitting in the shop for a few months. The only thing I've done to the Blazer since the pic was taken was putting the top back on for the winter...Then on the back burner is the '69 K20...it's been waiting on a motor for 2 years and finally bought some parts for the motor last week.I'm in no hurry on it though. 328228 ChaseDale3and8 01-14-2008, 02:01 PM Your truck keeps looking better all the time. I'll be watching your other builds as well. They will all be great looking trucks when you get done! ...Joe 1969k10stepside 01-14-2008, 04:33 PM 10:30 Update..Going to try to start the truck tomorrow.Hopefully it does start.I'm going to run to town tomorrow and get new spark plugs for it since they need replaced..Almost got done with the cab. It's pretty much all done now fixing rust wise.I just need to do a little bit more welding in a few spots and then move on.The only other real body work I have to do is fixing some dents in the fenders, bedsides, and fixing a few small holes in the floor of the bed. 1969k10stepside 01-15-2008, 01:31 PM Well,I didn't get it fired today.Mainly because I wasn't done welding in the cab so I couldn't get the gas tank in.I did buy and get new spark plugs in though.I bought part of the exhaust.I bought 2 and 1/2" thrush glasspacks.I just need to get the pipe bent so I can get it ran so it isn't so loud..atleast till they burn out.I can't decide whether to run the exhaust out the back or the sides.. 1969k10stepside 01-17-2008, 04:34 PM It's alive  I got my $10 column wiring adapter in to hook the van tilt wiring to the truck wiring, got the longer cab bolts on.Put in the gas tank and the seat.I put $15 worth of gas in it and then checked things over.Turned the key and it roared to life instantly. It runs alot better with the Edelbrock 1406 than it did with the q-jet.It has a exhaust leak on the drivers side, but that's expected when using headers.I'll get that fixed shorty.I also need to adjust the valves now that I can hear the motor and not just the noise of open headers..The truck does have a nice rumble through the thrush glasspacks though. My power steering pulley was bent so I replaced it but I don't have any pulleys turning except for the fan/water pump. The belt I bought to run the alternator/water pump/fan pulleys was too little.Eventually I'll have to get the a/c compressor mounted too... hgs_notes 01-17-2008, 06:07 PM Congratulations! Seems like it's been a long time coming, but that's only because I haven't touched my own projects in months. 1969k10stepside 01-21-2008, 09:07 AM Well,I got the old dash pad out,the old radio (Being replaced with a CD player of course) and all the a/c components. All of that will be replaced.I also ordered inner fenders ($55 a piece @ local body shop).Plan is to bolt the body all together,Finish most of the body work, put some primer on it and drive it for awhile and then paint it when it warms up. 1969k10stepside 01-24-2008, 11:45 AM Started bolting the bed back together. It had a few bolts holding it together but I got one inner fender for the bed cleaned and primed and re-installed.I took the passenger side bedside back down to bare metal to be primered too.It had bondo on it from where the lower trim would be to the bottom but there was no damage, just a few small dents..Someone just went crazy with the bondo. After I get the other inner fender cleaned, primered, and bolted back in I'm undercoating the bottom of the bed. Then clean the inside of the bed, fill a few small holes, and then primer it.Then I've just got to do some minor work on the tailgate which shouldn't take long, then primer it and be done with the bed till paint. The cab just needs some minor body filler around where the cab corners are welded to the cab to make the transition even. Then clean the doors back down to bare metal, pull a few dents, primer them and be done with them. One front fender has already been cleaned, and primered. The other still needs redone after pulling that one dent out.The cowl is ready for paint. The only thing I haven't really done anything with it the hood, which I can't decide if I'm going to use it,or get a cowl hood..I'm getting ready to buy the interior.Getting closer to finished..just about ready for paint and final assembly! Still a bunch of sanding to do before paint though! franky69c10 01-24-2008, 11:53 AM http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r21/frankyazm/THUMBUP.gif estig70 01-24-2008, 08:56 PM :wop:.............. keep up the good work.
