I have finally decided to start a thread for my project. Its a 1968 swb original v8 three speed truck. I wanted to do a fast build and just get it running and drive it. But after getting in to it that went out the door. Know a year later its bagged and lays frame and there is still a lot to do. I have decided that I am going for the rat rod look with the primer, eventually the white wall tires on the 15in wheels and a pic of a pinup on the doors.

Looks like a good start!!!! How tall is your rear tires? Also is your frame touching the rear end? I am curious how much bed i will have left when i am done with my truck. Anyways good job and keep up the work!!

Here's what i got done this weekend. Finally got the motor done. Bolted the motor and trans together and set it in and started cutting the firewall for the trans tunnel. Found out that I can't run an HEI distributor that sux, it won't clear the firewall. Not sure if i want to cut the top of the firewall yet to make it fit. What are you other bagged guys running for a distributor.

You can use a small cap hei or a unilite small caps can come with all kinds of goodies underneath. You could even convert a points ignition to a magnetic breakerless for about $75. Good luck and she looks sweet. I'dve left it the way she was, but this is cool as well!

The frame is laying on the rear end with no bump stops. The tires on the back right now are 245/75R-15. The bed is only 9 1/4 deep all they way around right now.

04 Orange & FnLow69..... How much did you guys 'Z' your frames?

As for the dizzy, MSD makes a sweet (and compact) billet dizzy that drops right in & is electronic like the HEI.

Why such a big Z?

Well I was trying to make it lay frame without having to buy spindles and control arms. It worked at first till I completely rebuilt the entire front end with everything new. After I did that it raised the frame up 3in so I had to put drop spindles on it anyway to get it back down on the ground. If I had realized that it wasn't going to work right I wouldn't have z'd it that much.

I got to work on the truck this weekend got alot done. Finished cutting the floor out. Painted and hung the doors, put the bed back on and started cutting the fender out to make it fit. Still have to adjust the bed it looks like it is sitting a little high in the rear and i got to find a 67 passenger side fender.

Couldn't really tell from the pix, are you using the stock trailing arms?

04 orange
03-11-2007, 10:44 PM
Well progress I whish. Haven't got much done in like 2 months cause my welder died on me, and lack of interest. Finally got enough saved up and bought a miller 210 last week so now I can get going. Went to the junkyard this weekend and scored big time, I got a 68 grill for $40 bucks, and I bought a tailgate from a board member. So with the new welder and a week off coming up hope to get a lot done.

For NPilot1975 question those are the stock arms.

Zumo where do you live in hachie.

04 Orange hasn't lost any leg room. It looks like the trans tunnel is larger but still has the stock floor in the footwell area.

Well haven't posted in awhile on this page. Got some progress done. I spent a couple weekend's redoing the z up front. Know I have got all of the frame done and my brake lines run, just need to mount the front calipers and hang the front shocks. Been trying to collect every thing that I need to get it running and driving. Man all that little stuff adds up quick$$$. Working on the trans tunnel, and firewall now, so I can get the motor and trans back in for the last time hopefully. Major things left to do are plumb the air ride, wire the truck, and figure out my steering shaft, and reassemble the entire truck . I shooting to have the truck drivable by goodguys. What you guys think so far.

The fuel tank is from speedway motors heres the link. Its the 11 gal. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/2530,283_Spun-Aluminum-Tanks.html

By using the spindles it helps it go down those extra 2.5" in the front.

Thanks for all the comments. I really haven't worked on the truck since I posted last just kind of burned out on it right now. I plan on getting back on it soon though.

These projects can go through ups and downs. The first two years of my build I only really got stuff done in the winter when I couldn't ride my motorcycle. The last year I totally lost my head and put in 30 hours at work and 50 in the garage  !

My next build will be "all out low" dragging rockers like yours, love it!
