Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Click on the Index thread link in my sig for lots of good info. However most of it was written for 67-72 trucks. The guys on this board should be able to tell you what you can use and what won't work.

Jerry, Why is it that the GMC can not be regestered? Seems to me that regestering the GMC is the easier route.

and if you can actually see them you have the cleanest frame known to man.

i wouldnt worry about it as per no one will ever get under it to check. if it still bothers you fill it in with weld a grind it smooth, or bondo and paint it. unless you are building it for pure authenticity i wouldnt sweat it.

On the late model (67-72) it's supposed to be on the drivers side between the cab and steering box (don't know, I've not found mine yet).

In my state anyway, all their worried about is whats on title. I have bought a few trucks, and never had any problem.

Really the only time you would have any trouble with vin # 's is if you have an accident and the insurance company wants to make sure they are paying for the right car/truck.. I dought you will be having that trouble,. And if you look real hard you can find the vin stamped into the frame by the left motormount.. It is on top.. I have seen mine but then again I have sandblasted the frame also...

Mines on the drivers side between the cab and steering box,if you turn the wheels all the way to the left you can see it, about mid frame, you know ,so they don't get thier suits dirty
haha
