porterbuilt 11-29-2006, 12:32 AM The burb is looking sick! I know how much work all that boxing is.... I don't know which part is worse, cutting the pieces or grinding down all the welds!
I picked up a 66 burb the other day... seeing yours making headway gets me motivated to work on mine.
Keep it up and keep us posted.
leftcoast66 11-29-2006, 12:32 AM i found this and mentt to show it earlier but here is what it looked like before
should be a badass end result. Looked like a really good start, wish my truck was that clean when I started, woulda saved a lot of time

19GMC63 12-01-2006, 08:39 PM I'm still interested in the front turn signal sockets and dimmer switch if the truck has them. LMK
Thats a pretty good lookin truck for a parts truck.
laidout 12-01-2006, 11:29 PM we got the frame boxed and the suspension back on to finesh up the weling and so forth i got the other truck striped and i was reading on here that the frame was almost the same as a short wide truck so me and a cope of buddy put it on the frame to see if it did and it did pluc with it mounted to the frame it lay rocker without a body drop.. as we layed the hood on it never thought about it how will i mount the hood. if anyone know please let me know

laidout 12-11-2006, 08:27 PM we go the body on to make sure everything clears i need to notch 2 thing to clear the drive shaft and a few other things an then i can take it back apart

layinrocker65 12-11-2006, 09:04 PM I have that same problem with my hood, dont know how to mount it. Burban looks sick though.
laidout 12-11-2006, 10:10 PM on the hood mounting problem porterbuilt is building me one in the next week or so so he might be able to make a few more
leftcoast66 12-12-2006, 03:39 AM That thing looks awesome. I'd say chop the top, but that's about it, that thing looks great the way its comin along.

laidout 12-14-2006, 09:22 AM i hate it when i change my mind in the middle of things lol
im going to put a carero subframe in it now i was talking to a hot rod guy when i first got it he said just put a sub frame underit that way you have all the pwer steering disk and it will lower it 6 inchs
of cource im na ill just z it and get a drop member but i have found out i cant aford that set up pluc the more i think about it he was right
does any one have any pics of a sub frame on a 60 66 frame
Rokcrln 12-14-2006, 11:16 AM Your project is looking good! Personaly I would not due the sub frame route. Just go the the junk yard and get teh front end off a 70's-80's truck/burb and bolt it all in. It should all fit if I remember right. It would also be a much cleaner set up that would match all the hard work you have put into it so far.
One project I would like to do one day is take a 65 burb and build a Tahoe out of it! 4 door's and shortened up just a bit for a new family hauler.

laidout 12-14-2006, 08:33 PM well i want to go with the sub frame for the power steering and it cheaper to to do what i want with it
the only bad thing about getting the 70 and 80s front mu lowered spindles
wont fit they are the five lug conversion spindles for the 63 66 trucks
Rokcrln 12-14-2006, 09:57 PM I guess I just don't get why the power steering is better off a sub-clip? I had looked into this once for a customer and once you add in the price of the clip (cheap I know) and a full rebuild kit of it then drop spindles, rotor conversion and time to swap it over and then get it all lined back up for the radiator, bumper and misc parts it just was not worth doing.

laidout 12-15-2006, 12:55 AM well im not sure what i want really i lowerd my buddys 76 chevy truck after work
and looked at the power steering i can make it work and i can cut some of the cross member out and box it back in then lower my motor 2 or 3 inches
thats all i really need i think that it why i was wanting a subframe
pluc i was looking at the frame if i do the subframe i pretty much just wasted my time and i would have to box it all back in
for the money i would have in it i can buy the tubular control arms and i have the lowered spindles allready
so im going to keed going on the frame asis
gostranger 12-15-2006, 06:30 AM that is the route i went and it is almost laying crossmember tubular lowers drop spindles and bags i still may z the frame but only 2'' or so the front sub frame idea may take you longer i also put the power steering on from a 84 and only had to drill one hole and it all bolted right in look here http://groups.msn.com/ROLLNLOW/thec10.msnw keep up the good work hope this helped
Rokcrln 12-15-2006, 09:14 AM Good call:) I just think you would not gain as much as you would need to make it worth wild doing. Also keep in mind if you leave your frame stock now you can alway slap in a drop member down the road when funds allow and your arms, springs/bags, drop spindles, disk will all work great. Here is a pic of my truck with 3" drop spindles, 2" body drop and bags. In this pic it still has an inch or so to go because the front tires are hitting the fender/hinge mounts. With the fenders off is drops right to the ground with no problems. I still might do an 1 3/8" crossmember chanel to get my front arms off the ground and get just a touch lower. Then my bed will be the problem as the floor is already raised 6" and I do not want to re-cut the frame to get a few inches more. With this set up right now my pinch welds are about 1/2" from hitting and my rear plate sits hard on the ground as it is.

poorboy 12-23-2006, 01:05 AM Project is looking good. I think it was a wise choice not going with the subframe.
laidout 12-30-2006, 10:11 AM allright my project just hit halt button my boss pushed the power trip one time to many so i lost it and have no job but hay now i know that i never want to work at a dealership ever again and now its time to move up in the world

John
laidout 03-21-2007, 11:43 PM i got my watts links i tacked it on the frame but i dont thinks its right
the frame goes side ways then goes strait up so i =m stuck ive never messed with then before
DroppedChoppedPanel 03-22-2007, 02:01 AM at ride height, the bars should be horizontal, and the pivot piece should be vertical, if not slightly more than vertical. it looks like you need to shorten your bars. when i got my watts from speedway motors, i had to shorten each side about 3" and retap them. where did you get that watts from?
ChiefRocka 03-22-2007, 08:09 AM I was just gonna say that....The bars have to be Horizontal...and the center pivot vertical.
I built my own on a customers F-150...and it worked perfect. The guy had huge 23's, with like 1/8" of space in between the tires and fender wells..didn't even touch during it's up and down travel
Good luck...looking good, otherwise !!!!
John
laidout 03-22-2007, 01:28 PM i taked to tim of TRUKWERKS about it and ya i need to shortin the bars a bit

DroppedChoppedPanel 03-22-2007, 09:09 PM hey, curious what your center arm pivots on. is there a bushing, or a bearing or something similar there? i have the speedway kit, and all it pivots on its just a bolt, and thats too flimsy for me.
laidout 03-23-2007, 09:34 PM its a bushing

Frizzle Fry 05-28-2007, 11:25 AM Hey cool proj. Just FYI; the heim joint tabs on your watts should also be vertical (perp to the main rails), not angled back with the notch.
