View Full Version : Project Topless 365/24/7
Well, I finally and going to get around to posting pics of my 2wd blazer that I bought from Luv at his cookout back on Oct. 21st. She's a little rough but she's going to be pretty awesome when I'm done.
My plans for it is to make it topless all the time, NO WINDOWS, NO VENT WINDOWS, NO TOP, NO CARPET!!!!!! I will be shaving EVERYTHING!!! NO HANDLES, NO SIDEMARKERS, NO WIPERS !!!!!!!!
I've already parted out the complete A/C system and we put a 67 front clip on it at the cookout. It's going to be bare to the bone. I plan on spraying/rolling a bedliner on the floor and then putting a nice set of seats in. I have already bought some 20's for it and plan to do a 4/6 drop on it. I know I need a lot of patch panels and already have a rust free tailgate and two wheel tubs that I'll be picking up in a few weeks. The pass door is a shot also.
I've posted a pic of my inspiration blazer. It's not going to be that nice but it gives you an idea of what I'm going to attempt to do.
Rokcrln 11-24-2006, 07:02 PM Always nice to see more 2wd Blazers! Even better when they make my POS not seem so bad:lol: Mine does not have rust that bad but it does need every panel replaced from damage/missing parts. But the basic rust in the rockers and small amount of the floor edges. Is yours an original 2WD? What kind of a ball park did you have to give for it?

be proud you two there are alot of us out there that would love to have a 2wd blazer no matter the shape :) Just keep your eye on the end product.
Yes, it is a true 2wd. I'd rather not say what I paid for it. I bought it from another board member and a good friend. I know I got the friend price. If he sees this and doesn't care then I'll tell it.
I wish you were done with the DVD because I could obviously use it. :)

I wish I was done as well, it is a ton of work but well worth it. Also it would meen mine was closer to being done as well.

No problem, I know you are getting harassed about finishing it.
Yukon Jack 11-25-2006, 08:56 AM Will be a great project to watch - keep us posted!
I will, I might have a deal worked out for the bodywork. Which could get this project rolling faster then I had planned.
vtblazer 11-26-2006, 07:49 AM I really like your idea of a bare bones blazer, all stripped down and lightened up.
Looking forward to your progress.
What's the motor/tranny combo going to be?
LUV2XCLR8 11-26-2006, 08:34 AM Yes, it is a true 2wd. I'd rather not say what I paid for it. I bought it from another board member

I GAVE IT AWAY to him for JUST $1500 cause Mommy said NO to keeping 3 TOYS :hm:
I haven't really decided on the motor/tranny combo. It has the original 307/TH350 in it now. Thinking about sticking with it. Mostly because it's going to be a nice cruiser. Not sure the whole 450HP will go with the topless theme. But it would be nice.
72CSTC5 11-26-2006, 10:31 AM We all get harassed about our project dont we ROCK!!
FRENCHBLUE72 11-26-2006, 10:33 AM Looks like its gonna be a sweet project but as rok said makes mine look better to me as mine seems rust free now.. when ya get to the rust repair let me know I have some lwb sides that are going to the scrap yard, but the inside is good where yours is gone..
lolife99 11-26-2006, 09:19 PM Hey yellow69,... Would you be money a head to just buy a nice/nicer 4x4 blazer for the body,... and just swap out the tub? If your body shop prices are anything like they are around here,... it would cost a fortune to repair your tub. I see nice 4x4's for $4k or less and they would have plenty of extra parts. Just a thought. I just think parts trucks are huge money savers.
Not real sure I'm going to get with a VERY GOOD body guy this week who wants my burb. We might do some trading for the body work. After I talk with him I'll get an idea on what it's going to run.
N2TRUX 11-26-2006, 10:04 PM We all get harassed about our project dont we ROCK!! You better believe your going to get harrassed...;)
yellow69- Loooks like you got a lot of work ahead of you. No matter though, cause 2wd Blazers...:metal:
Rokcrln 11-26-2006, 11:41 PM I have no idea what you guys are talking about, all of my projects are finished. Yeh if you call tearing them down and starting the next one finished! I too hope to get mine all rust free in the next 6-8 months. I agree a parts truck is a cheaper way to go alot of time. Mine I plan on using all new metal including short bed sides, fenders, doors, full front floor section. I will be using 68 front sheet metal and I have a great stock hood, 2 grills and a spotless gate. I do still need a top or I just might build my own out of metal so I can fix a few design flaws in the stock top.

Has anyone done this before? I woulkd like to see that. I did see a '72 Sub cut down to blazer size in a magazine.
well, not a lot has been done has been done lately, but it's about to get kicked into second gear. I've grinded a bunch of stuff off and gotten her ready for the body shop. I FINALLY SOLD MY BURB, well kinda, I traded the burb to a guy who's going to do all the rust repair on the blazer. He's also going to cut down the doors and shave everything also. I think it's a pretty good deal considering I know crap about welding. I have to take the motor out tomorrow and I'm going to try to bring it up to him on Friday. I'll take lots of pics in its state before I leave with it.
Ron 586 02-13-2007, 11:44 PM Congrats on getting started on the blazer. I know from our talks we've had how much this means to you. Will be watching and waiting for the outcome.
Keep us posted on the progress. I wouldn't let the guy have the title on the 'burb until he's done tho.;)
LUV2XCLR8 02-14-2007, 03:45 PM :agree:

Definitely, he recommended me just keeping the burb until he is done, but I need the room in the driveway for something else I'm thinking of buying. So I'll probably bring him the burb in a month or so. Really nice guy and even though I've left my previous career, I still have a good nose for good honest people and can usually pick out a POS. :)
Ron 586 02-15-2007, 08:18 AM Your neighbors will love you as much as mine love me if you just park em straight.
You can't really see them behind the house, but one neighbor can. They don't care though. In fact, he's looking for a 4wd Blazer. :)

I really don't see the point in ruining a perfectly good blazer (4x4 at that, i've got a soft spot for them) to make a good 2x4 blazer  (really don't care for 'em).
well, she's ready to go to the bodyshop. Thanks to Chevye for letting me borrow is towbar so I can bring it up there Wednesday morning. She looks a lot different then when I first got her and I can't wait to see her after she gets back.
LUV2XCLR8 02-20-2007, 04:13 AM :c2: Keep us posted ;)
Well, there probably won't be much news. However, I will go out there and take pics of the progress.
LUV2XCLR8 02-20-2007, 04:24 PM Trust me, you will want progress pic's, just in case it ends up Bad A$$ and
in a mag someday, Knowing what's been doe w/ pic's along the way is nice.
Well, it's gone. Loaded her up today and towed it up to the guys house. Halen went with me. I believe Putter would say she was dressed appropriately.
The guy has a 72 burb and a 67 swb. The burb was covered in plastic but it's going to be pretty sweet. He's shaved everything on it and put a different fuel door. I did take a few pics of his 67.
Yukon Jack 02-21-2007, 04:02 PM Looks like a great little helper!
pharcyde05 02-21-2007, 04:58 PM looks good cant wait to see the body shop pics
LUV2XCLR8 02-21-2007, 05:12 PM :agree:
thanks, hope to have some soon. I felt really good knowing the guys there were really excited to take it on. They even had the magazine out with the yellow blazer on it. They were talking about what all to do to make it look like that. That made me feel pretty good about it.
LUV2XCLR8 02-21-2007, 10:48 PM They even had the magazine out with the yellow blazer on it.
The one that is supposively now for sale, I wish I could get it :(
LUV2XCLR8 02-22-2007, 03:19 PM It's mentioned in this section, in the thread with the Evil Bay 70 ;)

When you are depending on someone else to do the job for you half the battle is having a good feeling for the ones doing it. It can be called a lot of names but what it boils down to is the feeling in your gut that tells you it's right or wrong. Will be waiting for progress reports and pictures of your blazer. You have a beautiful little helper there to help keep you straight so good luck on your long awaited project.
65-72 chevytoys 02-23-2007, 01:30 PM REALLY???
How much??
current bid $34,900
bouncytruck 02-23-2007, 02:56 PM I don't know if the yellow one is actually for sale or if it was just a reference to the truck. The Silver on in the thread ended at $34,900 with the reserve not met. Coincidentally, this is exactly where the bidding ended last time. I'd guess the reserve is $35K and his buddys stopped bidding so they wouldn't go over the reserve.
Well, I went by the other day to drop off a BUNCH of patch panels that Tim Christian brought to me at my cookout. The body mounts were on and he said they were waiting for metal. I'm going by there on Friday to bring them a door and some metal bed patches. I'll try to get some pics then.
I wish I was done as well, it is a ton of work but well worth it. Also it would meen mine was closer to being done as well.

What is the DVD about?
raggedjim 04-05-2007, 09:56 AM yellow69, hang in there. I know it's hard to wait on something getting done, but I started on mine myself and I can guarantee your's will be done before mine! I wish I could FIRE me! (but I work too cheap...)
Rg
Well, I know it's been a while but they finally got it in doors and started working on her. I got a few pics.
LUV2XCLR8 08-08-2007, 09:54 PM Some progress is better than no progress ;)
Well, I'm feeling pretty good about it. He made some comments about wanting it done right and that he felt bad for it taking so long. So that's a good thing.
raggedjim 08-09-2007, 09:34 AM Well, every project has 3 elements; Time, Scope (amount and quality of work to be done) and $$$. If you change one the others have to change to balance the job. I have to face this every day... The good thing is you have the $$$ locked down. Don't let the scope suffer because you are impatient...
Looking good, Rg
special-K 08-11-2007, 04:48 PM "Gitter Done!"
Ron 586 08-27-2007, 07:07 AM Just checking in to see how things are going. Looks good so far. Waiting on the finished product.
LUV2XCLR8 08-27-2007, 02:52 PM What he said, you driving it to MV in 08 right?
:fb:
Assuming it's done, I'd like to bring it.
LUV2XCLR8 08-28-2007, 04:46 PM Done? Are they ever? I'm trailering mine since I'm planning on running
the Dragon. I want to be sure it gets back home if it breaks on me ;)
Well, if I go the trailer route I'll have to choose which one to bring. If the blazer's done then I'll probably trailer it. Not sure driving that far down the interstate in a "convertible" is that much fun. I don't mind the wind blowing or I wouldn't be doing this to the blazer, but not at interstate speed.
LUV2XCLR8 08-28-2007, 05:39 PM It was a blast driving mine over to Ron's, I'm just a lil concerend with 6 hours
vs. 1 hour on the highways. Wasn't any wind to speak of really, just semi's :(
Palf70Step 09-03-2007, 08:13 PM The blazer is coming along nicely. Hopefully I'll get to MV and it'll be there to see.
thanks Bill, hopefully I'll have it done before MV. I'll be going by there on Wed, so I'll get some more shots of it.
well, didn't get more pics. Forgot he went to the Shades of the Past this week in Gatlinburg. Have to wait two more weeks till I go up that way.
tvblazer78 09-12-2007, 09:37 PM So this is it. You have a good start. any new pic's?
Not lately, I'm going out that way on Wednesday. I'll try to get some updated pics then.
LUV2XCLR8 09-18-2007, 03:02 PM Slacker :hm:
Well, I didn't get there till today. Had the camera and was ready to rock and roll. One thing though, camera doesn't work to well when my wife took the memory card out. :(
I actually learned about a show up there on Sat. Gave me a good reason to bring the truck up there and come back with the camera.
tvblazer78 09-20-2007, 09:11 PM sweet pic's!!!!!!

Okay, I took my truck back up that way to a show on Sat and went and got some pics of the blazer. Westmoreland is about 45 minutes from me and out in the middle of nowhere. They got the firewall almost done and the sidemarkers covered. A few other things also. Here's the pics
Palf70Step 09-23-2007, 09:29 AM It's moving along!
LUV2XCLR8 09-23-2007, 10:02 AM You can sell it back to me, for the same price, when they are done :D
I'll think about it.....okay I'm done thinking NO! :)
LUV2XCLR8 09-26-2007, 05:45 PM :me2:
What do you guys think of me taking my wheels and having them powdercoated black for the blazer?
LUV2XCLR8 10-01-2007, 11:04 PM Centers? or Outer lip and all? (I vote to leave the lip if you do it)
