How do you get those Smiley characters, Im not interested in smileys per se, I like the animated ones that are eating popcorn or laughing on the floor etc.??

When you click New Reply, they are right there on the right

At the bottom of the thread, you either need to click "go advanced" button and choose a smiley from the right-hand side, click the "post reply" button on the bottom left or upper left. you can't get them to show up using "quick reply" unless you know the VB code that will generate them.

Well, when I click the "Post Reply" or "Go Advanced" button, this is what I see next to the window I type in...and you can click the word "More" to see more of them. Just click on one of the little smileys and it will insert the character OR the word that will generate the character. For example, if you click the "I'm new here" guy, it might stick some word into your post that looks like :newhere: or something like that (it will have colons at beginning and end of word)

It looks like the Display Settings for your monitor have your screen resolution set to super low (everything is gigantic) or you are using a very, very tiny screen (15"?). To me, it looks like your screen is set to run at a resolution of 640x480.

What happens if you use the scroll bar to scroll to the right - are the smileys over there? I see the scroll bar just above the words "Done" and "Internet" just above the Start bar.

At the bottom of the screen, look for a box like the one I am posting a picture of - what Skin is it set to? I see the smileys when using the "default blue" skin. You might try a couple others and see if the smileys appear.

Let me know if you can scroll. Also, if you are gonna be anywhere near Atlanta, GA and you are really running a 15" monitor and want an upgrade, let me know. We have so much spare crap laying around, I know I could help out.

PS - if you want to change your screen resolution, you can open the Control PAnel (this is in the Start menu under the Settings section).

If there is something that says "Switch to Classic View" on the left, click that. Look at the icons on the right and find "Display Settings". Click the Settings tab and use the slider to adjust to a higher resolution. Most people these days use 1024x768. 800x600 might be easier on the eyes if you are using a smaller monitor.

If you use a smaller resolution (like 640x480) because it's hard to see the characters, in that Display Settings section, you can click the "Appearance" tab and set the font size to "Large Fonts" or "Extra Large Fonts". It might help.

I don't know how you feel about shopping online, but here is a nice refurbished 19" NEC monitor for $49:

http://electrified.com/Catalog/Items/?CampaignID=Pricegrabber&ItemID=159

w/Shipping it will be around $80. If you were looking for a 17", I could get you something cheaper. I have two spare 19" (on Dell/Sony 19" in black, one Viewsonic 19" in beige), but it would cost me $50 just to ship it to you, and I'd be crossing my fingers hoping it arrived operable.

I realize you didn't come to the Computer Help forum looking for more ways to spend money, but ... :) Just tossing out a suggestion - 15" monitors are tiny, and you've only got one pair of eyes. The jump from 15" to 19" is insanely huge, and for less than a C-note, it'll save you a pair of glasses :D

Shifty I tried all your suggestions with no luck. Just for the he!! of it I went to my user cp and starting switching things up under Miscellaneous Options and now I have the smileys.:metal:
I changed the basic editor to standard editor and wella:four:

Ah, ok. I figured they were off the screen. Oh well - the offer for a used 19" monitor still stands if you're stuck with a 15" :)

I didn't even realize that changing the editor removed the smileys
