alright guys... not much got done today, it wasnt a very good day to say the least (outside building my truck)

but anyways, it seems like today was the first real "low point" in my build. My dad helped get the brake lines finished up and everything bolted up, and I guess for temporary were going to use the I6 3spd transmission until spring. Anyways, here are some pics from today:

http://pic18.picturetrail.com/VOL940/3744123/13970720/286019937.jpg

http://pic18.picturetrail.com/VOL940/3744123/13970720/286019924.jpg

and my 350... Holley 600CFM carb, Edelbrock RPM performer intake, headers, Hot Cam (I think thats the brand) Grind #140128, redone GM starter, Edelbrock valve covers, stainless Steel bolts, aftermarket distributor (clear cap, hasnt shown up yet), new fuel pump some misc dress up stuff.

Looking good!

and hey, theres nothing wrong with using the 6 and 3 on the tree. i am a total fan of 6 cylinders, as alot of guys are on this site. i know it's not a screamin' 350. but...a 250 can hold it's own.

just assuming thats why it's a low point in your build. so. yeah. keep at it man.

i'm still going to use a 350... i'm using the transmission out of the I6, which im afraid isint going to hold up-but we'll see.

main reason im at a lowpoint is I dont have all the peices I need to put the truck together and i'm being held up by parts that were ordered late or were shipped late. Plus with school and a horrible (and i mean HORRIBLE) english teacher... lets just say i'm glad working on my good ol' chevy :)

i think the 3-speed should hold up just fine. it was behind some decent sized engines back in the day, and held up. as long as you're not going to be side stepping the clutch at every light with the tach pegged...it should hold fine for now.

and don't worry. i gotcha on teachers...haha. i've walked out of some of my classes this semester while the professor was in the middle of a lectur. they saw me stand up, and theyd stop talking. i'd start to walk out, and their jaw would drop.

memo to you. don't try that. it's frowned upon. haha.

You can run a 3 speed transmission from a I6 on a 350 motor???? Any mods you have to do or anything???

As for teachers, man, dont get me started. I had a very similiar problem. My math teacher was an idiot. He didnt know how to do calculus, but was teaching calculus. WTF is that. So you would ask questions and he would treat you like YOU were the dumb one. Everyone in class felt the same way but no one spoke up. One day i asked a question, he came back with his usual dickheadness and i stood up and called him a F*&$%N idiot and left class. I never went back to that class. Two weeks later the teacher quit teaching math. ahaha.... I guess after i left a few other students went to the principal and complained about him.... I DO NOT REC: CALLING ANY TEACHER AN IDIOT.

Back on topic.

mm...not that i know of, regarding the tranny. it's the same bellhousing. there are threads on here about that, i'm almost positive someone alot more knowledgable would have the answer to that.

Lets not go into major detail, but i got into it with a teacher once and he ended up getting fired. we butted heads early on in the year and he ended up giving me a lecture about how he is above me and I have to respect him but even with my respect to him, he will never give me respect etc etc etc. didnt end up well.

as for the I6 transmission-it bolted straight up. I replaced the flywheel and installed a brand new clutch and it bolted in exactly the same.

I started on painting the interior today... I only got one lighter coat on today and I ran out of time.

I think im in love with the color white I picked up... I have alot to go yet, but the pictures dont do it justice... believe me!

only got to work 1:45-4 today so not much got done-but its better than nothing. Sanded everything with 80 grit and then went to 150 and ended with 220... I like it!

PS-I get to hit another swap meet this weekend, and this time I have lots more CASH (SOMEONE FORGOT THE $$$ AT HOME lol) and no broken foot! (I had a healing broken foot for Hershey car show/swap meet). I'm stoked... I'm actually skipping homecoming to go, but thats alright because the girl i was going to go with said she will go to the swap meet with me anyway haha :metal:

Do you plan on redoing this rebuild later??? You have a compressor, spend 100 bucks and get a HVLP gun. Spray it that way, you will get better results that are going to last longer and you only have to do it once. I think i remember you sa ying you were going to redo this rebuild but i cant remember.

Either way, cool interior color choice.

I will be running 20x10 American Racing wheels, they are older stock. Here is a pic of the wheels, its a camera phone pic but oh well:

http://pic18.picturetrail.com/VOL940/3744123/13970720/285162765.jpg

As for tires, I think we were planning on a 285/40/20 I BELIEVE was the size, but i'm not positive

I have to get as much of the truck done by the 15th as possible... GOOD LUCK

And I will be rebuilding this truck later, hopefully...

hey guys, not a very good night. I broke loose in some gravel in my ranger and pulled into a parking lot about 2 miles down the road and shut my truck off because my dad had called me. A cop was evidently sitting in a parking lot and heard me, chased me down, and hit me for evading arrest and for wreckless driving. Cop was a complete &^%$ and lectured me about how horrible of a driver I was and how dangerous I was on the road and that I should never drive again and if it was his choice I would never be allowed to have a license. I am extremely aggrivated about it right now, mostly due to his attitude towards me. I have never been arrested, never even pulled over or anything and he acts like I robbed a store. My parents know the cop and he was a complete you-know-what. I ended up getting arrested and everything and supposedly will be losing my license and all that. He lectured me about how unsafe of a driver I am and how I shouldnt be trusted with anything. AHH it took everything I had not to flip out on him.

On the other side, I got my distributor today, and got some of the interior painted and some other misc stuff done.

Its great how the truck is comming along, but I gotta say you would have felt a lot better if you would have just knocked that cop out and drove off... not like the consequinces could get any worse?

Hey, I might take you up on the offer of the mint rear glass... Mine has white spots on it in the edges.

And as far as the cop, You dont even understand how badly I wanted to, but I dont want to make things worse for me. I would've felt alot better, but oh well

might have suggested masking the entire windshield, that overspray can carry farther than you'd think, but it looks like your done with that part already anyway. sorry to hear about the cops... but it was the end of the month mabee that came into play?

Yeah, I didnt think of the whole masking the entire windshield but oh well. I will have to scrape the entire windshield off I guess.

Here are some pics... most are older, as I didnt get much done tonight (went to homecoming football game and hung out with a friend I havent seen in a while)

The 20's look so small on it.. What the heck... If i would of known that i woulfd of put on 22's. Does it look small because its jacked up in the air?

thebrown83
11-11-2007, 05:36 PM
I love those wheels! I think they look a little small because the truck is not lowered and the suspension is not compressed. They will look great with a nice set of tires and mounted on your actual truck.

racerman85
11-11-2007, 08:33 PM
they look small because there are no tires and that truck isint lowered... plus it doesnt have an engine, either.

I am ordering the tires monday hopefully, and they should arrive around wednesday. by then I should have the front clip back on and everything so yeah i'm pretty stoked!!!

The more I look at the wheels the more I like em...

Wait a minute.... you are putting on 20's and SPRAY CANNING your truck?????? :banghead: That makes NO sense whatsoever, even if you are planning on redoing it later. I mean that's like... spending 1000's on a custom stereo setup with 100's of watts of amps and dozens of 12 inch woofers and playing then playing 8-tracks. Ick...

Oh, by the way, you ever try sanding spray canned paint? It's not fun, not to mention the (very real) chance that the real paint you spray on top of it later might wrinkle the spray canned stuff undernieth.

My advice (again), get a cheap compressor and spray gun... (even cheap catalized enamel is way, way, way better than anything you can get out of a can... trust me) Lyrikz is right... I know I have said this before and know what your dad said so it's your truck, I have no place to judge. Do it the way you feel is best! Good luck, can't wait to see the rest of the build.

sick i havent seen them on any truck so far and i love that look... thanks alot for the pic your truck is BA! what paint/color is that? are you running 22's or 20's?

BTW-

Not much got done today, I went to a race car flea market this morning and bought some stuff for the race cars and also I got the correct harmonic balancer for my truck! :) I had the big one and I needed the smaller one, and I scored one for $5. We also got a couple mini starters for the race cars, along with acid ported intake manifold for when we end up running street stocks. Oh and a TINY 12 gallon fuel cell-lighter weight (instead of running a 22 gallon fuel cell). Yeah, our setup is weird... go figure :)

Anywho, I got my new harmonic balancer mounted, my PS pump mounted, water pump mounted, and decided that we are going with an electric fan.

yeah, i think im going to do something similar to what you did-just use something to seal it up until summer and then repaint it.

thanks on the positive comments. i love these old trucks, but its a shame i did it backwords-i built the truck and then tried to collect parts, ran out of time, and ended up paying a premium for them-lol. live and learn i guess... good luck with your build, and if it comes out as good as your 88 it will be sick!

Yeah sealer works great for drivers cause it seals out moisture. Im not ready to pull it all apart and paint it. So thats why I sealed it so I could still drive it. Plus if it gets scratched who cares. Just remember it all takes time dont get in a hury.

y did you get a smaller profile tire in the rear

They actually probably arent.

I ordred a set of tires
265/35/22
255/40/20
And the sidewall is identical height.

If you get the right rims and tire width, you can play around with the sidewall height... At least thats how mine are.

racerman85
12-05-2007, 02:02 PM
275/35/20 is a 3.8" sidewall

245/40/20 is a 3.83" sidewall

they are almost exact and you can bearly tell anything at all with it on the truck

also guys-I finally got a job! after 2 months of searching I got a job at Circuit City (electronics chain for those that dont have them) selling Ipods, CD's/DVD's, and game consoles. Its good and bad, I need a job but I need time to work on the ol' girl so I dont know how its going to work out...

hey guys, sorry for dispearing on you! i'm still around and still alive, just no time to work on the truck due to winter training and everything... I just got back from florida for almost 2 weeks of training and you guys have it luckyyyy!!!! I wish it was that warm up here so I can work out and ride outside... oh well... hopefully this coming winter I will be down there with ya'll!

Well, I have worked on the truck a few times lately and got some real progress done today... SHES ALIVE!!! she fired up right away without any tweaking or tuning. It turned over 2 or 3 times and came to life... I have a poor quality video that I took with my camera phone (2 mega pixel) but I was too excited to get my real camera out haha. I am hoping to be able to pull it out of the garage by sunday since I finally got my problems with the brakes figured out and everything is plumbed... Im so excited! haha

heres the video if you wanna watch it-I will try to get better video footage tomorrow hopefully but we will see...

alot got done yesterday, but not much pics. I sanded/painted both inner fenders (rubberized the insides, painted the outsides black), we re-built the radiator support to hold my aluminum radiator, finally bolted the cab down, ran the choke line and electrical line from the distributor to my tach dash, installed both sun visors, and idk what else I forget...

I also got my paint yesterday... its gonna be kinda temporary but I wish I could find a nice paint that will last forever with the look it will start out as... But im not going to reveal that as of yet ;)

lookin good. What are the specs on the cam? What class do you run in mx? Youve got killer style in your avatar pic, unless that is someone else. I raced MX for several years and crashed my way out of the intermediate class, lol. Dungey or Jlaw, whos gonna win it? Later, Cory

cam specs are on crane cams website-

http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browseParts&action=partSpec&partNumber=110591&lvl=2&prt=5

and I race 250B stock and mod, 125B mod. Yes, thats me last year at nationals where I placed 9th overall in 250c...

heres a few pics from nationals last year...

I personally dont like Jlaw... he doesnt have much respect from some in my area because he would always cheat (not that it really mattered due to the fact that he'd destroy everyone anyways) plus he tried to take out my trainer at the one race when they werent even in the same class... We call him Jlo haha. But I cant deny his skills but I just wish he had more respect... Honestly I hope Dungey wins west and Canard wins East!

and I know what you mean about crashing-26 bones in 14 years of racing (started when I was 3...) so i've spent alot of time on the injured list, sadly. But hey it happens, and I still love the sport!!!

WOO HOO! My dad and I got the bed on tonight. holy &*^% the bed is pretty heavy when its all one peice! haha. I dont have any pics of the bed on the truck (it got dark out) but it depresses me- the bed on my donor truck is the one we just unbolted and stuck on for "mock up" and if the PO wouldnt've lost the left rear i'd have a completely straight bed to drop on. DOH! oh well, im gonna see what kinda massaging I can do to get it looking a little better. But heres some pics of the bed and of my 69...

Hell yea! 9th in the C class at Loretta’s is no joke! I struggled to make top 10at Whitney one year in the C class. You ever come down south for Lake Whitney or Oak Hill? I'm a jlaw fan purely because of his riding and style. The dude is sick! His antics can be disrespectful so I hear what you’re saying. I like Dungey too, but I don’t see him winning the championship, but will see. I hope Canard wins it, and he has very good chance.

Good luck with the truck! Check mine out. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=286158&referrerid=24591

thanks man. It took all year and pounded myself training n stuff. I really wish Hahn would win (wil hahn) cause he was parked beside us at lorettas and hes a really down to earth kid-he paid his whole way last year to everything he went to at the age of 17. Hes amazing IMO!

And i've never been to whitney or oak hill-I watched at ponca one year (okie) but it depends on finances, I might go to florida for mini o's during thanksgiving...

I cant wait to haul my bikes around in my chevy when its built though haha. :)

bumpers are going on today, and hopefully saturday i'll toss on the 4in drop coils and it'll look close to finished, then I can tear it apart and paint everything!

Man...

That's Effin' Rad!

Tall 8-ball shifter, hula dancer on the dash, diamond plate foot print gas pedal...

I beleive the technical term there is "bitchin'!".

as always, looking good, and can't wait to see plates slapped on it.
