I have been told that chevrolet did not rivet the vin plates on until 1950, any body else heard this? Can anyone tell me the location of the vin plate on a 1949 Chevy pick up. I have a 39 without a vin plate and I have a 49 clear title and vin plate that I want to put on the 39 and call it a 49 for inspection and lic. purposes.

on the 3 AD trucks i have owned all the ID tags(VIN) where held on w/tiny clutch head screws in the lowwer half of the door jam between the hinges...joe

Driver side door pillar between the hinges on my 51, but secured by rivets.
