Does anybody know what the difference is between the 1/2 Ton truck rear suspension and the 2WD Blazer rear suspension?

Belltech only lists a 1" shackle (Part #6700) for the 73-91 Blazers and no hangers for the Blazer.

LMC who sells McGaughy's parts, doesn't list hangers for the Blazers in their new catalog either, just schackles.

I would like to lower my Blazer 3" in the front and 4" in the rear but was wondering if anybody else has used the Truck part numbers for the shackle and hanger from Belltech or anybody else on their Blazer.

I am sure someone here will chime in with good info. If not, you might try Belltech directly?

The front is exactly the same as the truck. Anything that works there will work on your Blazer. On the rear, the frame is different so the hanger will not work. You can make a 2" shackle fit, but you will have to modify your gas filler tube.

You mean the metal filler neck behind the filler door that the hose attaches to? If so then I could take it to a local muffler shop to have in bent.

So how is everybody else lowering their Blazer's? Other than the flip kit or airride in the rear?

I thought about lowered leaf springs too.

Yep the filler neck is what I'm talking about. I can't tell ya about the rest though. The shackle was just in until we put a 4 link in.... :)

Just found out today from a tech at Bell-Tech that the flip kit that they make is designed to lower your Blazer 6" BUT that is only after you have your leaf springs re-arched 2". So in other words this kit (#6852) would drop the Truck a whopping 8" before the arch job.

Has anyone ever used another brand of flip kits on there Blazer? Did you have to C-Notch the frame?

I really only want a 5" drop in the rear but everybody is saying the frames on the Trucks and the Blazers are different and that the Truck rear notches or flip kits will not work.

Get 92-94 full size 4x4 springs and 2" shakles. this is was I did on mine. and I have about 3.5-4.0 of travle.

Are you sure you don't have that backwards - it drops it 4" then you get another 2" by re-arching? So a total of 6"
My Blazer has a flip kit and my GF's dad insisted that a flip kit gets you 6" on any GM truck. But when I measure form the center of the rim to the wheel-well edge the difference between my Blazer with the flip-kit and my Blazer that sits stock height (as far as I know, minus sag due to age) is only about 4"?
I posted some pictures of my set-up in another thread. I bought it this way so I haven't had a chance to drive it but there is very little clearance with no c-notch. But there is also no evidence of it hitting either. The PO drove this around for at least a summer before selling it to me.

Did you find my post on this? you will have to flip your springs if you go with that. I was looking more into the 92-94 springs and it looks like they are the same up to 98 full size blazers. this would give you a good ride too.

But how much did this lower it?

about 5.5" I am putting air lift on tope of my springs. If I have 2 people in the back and a full tank of gas it will hite the frame. I did cut the bumper off on the from.

I am going to do some research as to why some advertise 6" and some 5". Maybe its the U-brackets are different between them sets. Yes the 4" or 8" difference makes sense. If it is 4" then you could use the Belltech kit and then a 2" rear shackle to get the drop.

Nice talking to you over the phone. Instead of making you wait until tomorrow I went ahead and took the pictures for you.

They are a helper bag kit I bought 6+ years ago. They are made to sit on the spring but as you can see I modified them. I don't remember what I paid nor name brand, sorry.

Thanks, I just ordered the Sport-Rite, I hope that it works for me. I was just hopping that the bag is not to tall. I will find out very soon.

when I first lowered my 79 I tried the shackles and hangers and the hangers didn't fit. They are different for a 1/2 ton than a blazer. So I used a flip kit and notched the frame. Its very low...probably due to sagged springs. I would say if you were to flip it and get the leafs re-arched for a bit more loft you'd be ok. Or you could maybe install another leaf. Thats usually good for another inch lift.

Thats on 17" wheels and using 3" springs and 2 1/2 " spindles in front.
