Hey Everyone,

THIS IS NOW MY BUILD THREAD!!

Been mostly a lurker on here as I don't have much in advise just yet, not to mention I didn't know what project car I wanted to get started with, but this forum helped my decision when I was told about this truck. Anyway, I bought a 67 project from a friend of a friend of a friend that had it sitting a warehouse for who knows how long and needed it out of there. Last registered in 02. Had it towed to the house as it wasn't running. Anyway, after crawling all over my new purchase, here is what I got. It's a 67 regular window, drivers rocker is rusted along with the seam of the floorboard, but that's about all I can really find that is a big issue. Body is pretty strait, doors are very solid and it has a 66 stepside bed which I just realized this weekend?? Sliding rear window, 5 15x8 chrome "old school" type of wheels all 6 lug, okay tires, lowered springs all the way around, drop spindles, vented and drilled front disks, power brake conversion and a complete moog front end kit that is in boxes in the bed of the truck, tie rods, bushings, ball joints, some heavy rods that I don't know the name of everything is there it looks like, including a front sway bar kit, rebuilt power steering box along with a pump, brackets and hoses. The shocks were put on with the springs, spindles and rear adjustable pan hard bar at some previous time. I've even got the paperwork for the kit.

Under the hood is 350 (by the numbers), 1.94 heads, elbrock manifold, Carter 750 double pumper, electronic distributor, electric fuel pump, unknown headers and it all appears to be a low mileage rebuild along with what again appears to be fresh rebuilt 700R trans shifted by a B&M Ratchet shifter and 12 bolt non posi rear.

I spent the weekend fixing the exhaust, drained the fluids, figuring out the hacked up wiring, so I could get it started to see what I got. Once I got it figured out, it started right up and is an extremely healthy engine. I took her out for a quick spin around the neighborhood and this thing puts you right in the seat, I bent the gas tank behind the seat, it barks the tires shifting into second so it definitely has some power and sort of shift kit.

Anyway, just wanted to share. It felt good to turn a wrench again. I've been contemplating some sort of a project for a while now as I missed my 70 340 duster that I built in high school, so this is it.

looks like a deal to me.
As for the bed, if you like the stepside... all you need is fenders, and you can decide if you want the cut out or not too. They even make them out of fiberglass too... no more rust!

Nice starter project. Looks like they put 72 doors on it you tell by the inset screw under the vent window. But at least you can drive yours. mine is still sitting out side awaiting a space to open up in my garage so I can get started on it. So basically i'm jealous.

Nice truck,
I wish mine were in that shape when I started. I guess I am too cheap to spend the money for a truck in that shape. How is all the sheet metal?

I bought the cluster off of EBay, but I think Glock on the board does the same thing. The tach I bought at Checker while I was buying some parts, not sure of the brand but I will check for you. I cut out the center to make it work, cut up the old one first just so I got it right. The tach fit perfectly. I just drilled a hole in the back for the wires. It's not a bad set up at all for $250 total with a new benzel.

I'll post the info on the tach...

Sorry to snag a thread, but where do you find the spare tire fenders?

The spare tire fender in the first pic is the truck when I brought it home. If you look at the bed, it's a pre 66 stepside bed that was on the truck then that has the tire cut out. I sold that and bought a 68 stepside bed.

You should be able to find a cut-out fender for a stepside pretty easily as most want the one without the cut out.. like me!~

No, I didn't notice. I'm new to the truck world, and engulfing myself in it, so please be gentle. :o We'll have to put a pre-66 bed on the truck in order to get cut-out fenders? Do you know if they make repop fenders? The truck is being taken down to the frame in the next week or so, then rebuild should start next month. Thanks for all the help and sorry to be a pest. Like they say...no question is a dumb question.

looseScrews, I have the spare cut out on my 67 stepside. If I plan to use it for my spare tire or not, I like the look and my plans are to keep it but smooth the opening out where the metal overlaps.

No problem on the questions, I didn't know about my bed until I posted a picture of it. To answer your question, they do have 67/72 stepside fenders with the tire cut out. I'm not sure if there are new fenders with that, but I'm pretty sure if you hang in there and put the word out, you can swap someone the fender you have for one with a cut out, they may even pay you a little for yours!

HA!! I WISH! Don't have fenders to swap!! We're replacing the whole body! Well...the whole TRUCK! LOL!! If I can figger out how to post pics, you'd be SHOCKED that my  hubby and son want to "restore" it.

And I just had a HUGE blonde moment! Drew's is a K10....the spare prolly won't work afterall. :drama: Sucks to be me!

Just an update since I decided to make this my build thread. Anyway, I cut the holes for AC (had a non AC cab), sanded, primed and shot the interior, inside of doors, and jambs with 07 silver metallic paint. The pictures really don't do it justice, it's a really cool looking color, much better than I thought. Sorted out the wiring, installed the dash, vents, dash pad, the blower/evap for the vintage air system and dynomatted the entire floor. I'm making a backing for the rear of the cab to smooth it out for carpet and speakers in the cab corners. It's finally going back together! I figure in a few weeks that I may be able to even drive the thing since I haven't yet!

Anyway, here is some pics.

MAN - I'm starting to get an itching for a '67... I just think they look cool - and I personally like the tire mounted up on the fender - make's 'em look like they are doing something, not just primping... I have GOT to get my shop finished, the dirt yard mechanic thing is just not working for me and seeing someone's cool progress kills me..... gotta do it, gotta do it.... Looking cool man!

Here a are some more photos. I installed the carpet, make a cover for the rear, carpeted that and installed some speakers in the cab corners, installed the stereo and the seats! Me and buddy took it around the block once the seats were installed, no doors, no windows no bed no fenders.. but laid some nice rubber. I'm happy the engine and tranny are strong. She is coming a long nicely. Hopefully I will get the one piece windows installed and the doors hung this week.

Anyway, here are some picks.

Love the 6 lug setup !!!
How much did the brake's run ya for all of it?

Thanks! I've got drilled and slotted 6 lug rotors on the front from the PO. I was going to switch the entire truck to 5 lug for better (and cheaper) wheel choice but I didn't want to part with the front rotors because it looks cool. After doing the math on switching the axles/rotors and finding the 6 lug rear disk kit along with 6 lug Smoothie II's that can be made with custom backspacing, worked out that having them made to my specs was cheaper. I wanted to get the disks on with the current wheels so I can temporarily install the bed to figure out what kind of backspacing I can run and wasn't sure if the disks would push the wheel out further. I did about an 1/8 of an inch.

Sorry, started rambling there, just getting a little excited. The disks are from a special that Blackbirds ran (a board vendor). I don't remember exactly what I paid as I got the hoses as well but it was around $350 and change I think. Best part is they clear my 15in wheels that I currently have.

Thanks! I picked it out of a book in about 30 seconds.. I was freakin out a little on the drive home as I was thinking I didn't look at enough samples, but after I shot the truck, it was the right choice. The pictures really don't capture it very well, but it looks awesome. Everyone who has seen it comments on how cool the color looks. It's 2007 Hyundai metallic silver.

All this for $2,500. Not bad huh?

Anyway, just wanted to share. It felt good to turn a wrench again. I've been contemplating some sort of a project for a while now as I missed my 70 340 duster that I built in high school, so this is it.
I would like to start a project list for my LB 67' C/10. I also would like to replace the shoes with disc all around. What type did you place on yours? Any unforseen issues on installation of the discs?
Also, do you know if the generation III LS1 350 is a drop in for a 73'350 that I have already in there?

I bought the pan from Mar-k, damn good piece I must say however, it's a bitch getting it all lined up, it's a big puzzle. Next it's pull it apart, do the body work on the grill, fenders and paint the front clip, body work on the cab, paint then on to the bed… maybe I’ll even get to drive it sometime this year!

Well, I don't have any more excuses to put off finishing the bodywork. I've decided that sanding isn't that much fun. Anyway, I bought a 4.11 posi rear end from 70RS/SS, what a cool guy! He even delivered it at the crack of dawn, but he was down in the valley for other reasons as well, so I'm not complaining.

Anyway, took apart the rear, replaced the seals, scubbed it (it had new gear oil already complements of Mike) swapped over the disks and added a chrome cover to boot! Scrubbed, sanded and painted everything and I think it looks awesome!

Now onto bodywork, paint and exhaust. Hopefully I'll get to actually drive it by Xmas!

Anyway, here are the photos, enjoy!

Nope, used the stock axles. It was a bolt on kit. As for the e/brake, what E brake? I still haven't figured that one out quite yet. Just hope I don't have a trans failure at the same time the brakes go out. If it was a standard, I would have thought twice about that.

They are out of an 05 Silverado that had 5K miles on it (wrecked and in salvage yard). I looked at a few sets of seats but not all of them had a fold down center. I think the seats with the fold down center are the upgraded interior package as they were more comfortable and are more "sport car" like as they wrap around you a bit when you sit in them instead of being "flatter" type of the none fold down center. At least that was my interpretation as I looked at a couple of sets.

As far as fit, they fit in the cab very well and bolt to the floor easy, but you have to reinforce the floor on the underside as there isn't any reinforcement under there where they do bolt. They are also little thicker and higher than the stock seats due to the seat belt and cushions. Over 6'1" would probably prefer a stock set up for more leg room. I moved the center console back and it bolted it directly flat on the floor, it doesn't flip all the way up for the center seat but gave the cab quite a bit more wiggle room. I also recommend compressing the steering column down (FAQ Thread) as that made it really comfortable for the steering wheel as well.

She has paint! Here are some updates.... next is to paint the cowl hood, make some adjustments to the panels and then on to the bodywork on the bed.

Took her out for a blast around the hood, very heathly, (notice the lack of tire stickers on the rear now) hopefully with the bed and more gas in the tank she will hook up better as it's a handfull now when you get on it.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I'm really happy with it so far!

As far as the rear disk and the booster, I haven't done anything with it since the swap, but I haven't driven it other than around the block either. I'm not sure if I'm going to have to swap out the proportioning valve to an adjustable one or not. I'm assuming so, but other board members haven't had to with thier swap, so I guess I'll have to wait and see once it's road worthy.
