View Full Version : Newbie from Sherwood Park, AB
gkolmatycki 12-19-2006, 06:49 PM Hey everyone I live in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. I own a restorted '69 Chevy C10 Longhorn. I bought the truck for $550.00 about 8 years ago from a farmer that had it sitting in his front yard for sale. I worked on it throughout junior high, high school, & university as money came available. Now it is appraised at almost $13,500. It was a very long project but paid off in the end. Now I have a classic cruiser to be proud of, plus it gets more attention than any new truck. Here is a picture of what it basically looks like.

I'm somewhat new to this website & have been reading many of the posts. Maybe I can get a few more tips from some of you guys/gals on here for my truck.
Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Looks like you could give us some tips.:D Post some more pics!:D

poncho_villa 12-19-2006, 10:47 PM Nice truck! It's not too often you see a 283 in that year of truck. Can you tell us your method of lowering the stance. Looks like it sits just right.
Rollie396 12-20-2006, 12:10 AM welcome from Lloyd.
gkolmatycki 12-20-2006, 10:03 AM All I used to lower my truck were lowering springs. 2" drop coils up front & 3" drop coils in the rear. To make some extra room for the michelin tires in the back I had to use 1" wheel spacers in the rear.
I know the 307 replaced the 283 in '69, but that is what was in the truck when I bought it. The 283 engine was rebuilt back in the mid '90's, the previous owner gave me some receipts when I bought the truck. It is basically stock right now with a 2 BBL, but I plan to put an edelbrock intake with a 4 BBL & K&N air filter on it this winter. Maybe get the heads rebuilt or look at buying the World Products S/R Torquer 305 heads, drop in a mild performance cam, the basic goodies to spruce the old engine up a bit. All I did to the engine so far is clean it up & paint it chevy orange, buy some new spark plugs, accel spark plug wires, & add an HEI distributer.
It may not be a powerhouse with 300+ HP, but there isn't too many people around here that can say the have an old venerable 283 under their hood. I just like to be different because everybody has a 305 or a 350.
gkolmatycki 12-20-2006, 10:07 AM I'd be glad to post some more pics, when I get a chance. I'm hopefully getting a digital camera for X-mas.

gkolmatycki 12-20-2006, 10:28 AM I have a few pictures that I took with my camera phone a while ago. The quality kind of sucks but you get the idea.
Here is what my rear end looks like.

56chevy1300 12-20-2006, 12:47 PM Hi! I'm also new to this forum...I have already got some great advice.
So do you attend the Endless Summer show and shine at the Sherwood Park Alliance Church in August? I hope to have my truck done by next year's show.
Later,
Ross
gkolmatycki 12-20-2006, 01:03 PM I attend the show, but I don't enter my truck in the show. Don't get me wrong my truck looks great and all, but it isn't really show worthy. There are some minor imperfections in the paint & the engines not completed. It's just a cruiser that I drive during the spring & summer when the weather permits.

gkolmatycki 12-28-2006, 02:25 PM Yeah, I have 1/8" thick spray in bed liner in the bed of my truck. I got a shop in town to do it for me. It was around $100. Looks good though, the chrome/wood bed looks better but i'd have to take better care of it if I installed that.
