I think you are confusing "Memory" with "Hard drive space", which many other computer users often do.

MEMORY comes in the format of a RAM stick/card that you insert into the mainboard of your computer. This is usually represented in Megabytes.

STORAGE is how much space is on your hard drive. This is usually represented in Gigabytes.

Hard drive space is *not* the same as memory. When people say "memory" they are (should be) talking about how many megabytes of RAM are installed in the computer, not the amount of files or free space is on your hard drive.

damn, i forgot to answer the original question :D

http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.php

that should answer what "virtual memory" is. if i were you, i would setup Windows to manage its own Virtual memory and setup its own paging file size. details on how to do this:

I think the general recommendation is to set virtual memory at twice whatever the amount of RAM you have. I would just let Windows Manage it - it will know the best value to use.

I have seen this error happen when people mis-match RAM, use different speeds of RAM (like mixing a 128MB stick with a 256MB stick, or putting a PC133 stick in with a PC66 stick). Increasing the size of the pagefile could potentially help. A pagefile is just a chunk of hard drive space (a file, basically) that essentially acts like RAM - it's a space to buffer data for quick access. At least that's how I've always understood it.

Shifty I wasn't confusing anything. I know nothing about computers, I was just giving corn crap. :D

With that new internet connection, I knew there had to be some fun stuff on that computer!!
