I have a 90 Chevy 5.7 4+4 and i thank the actuator in the front went out.
When i put in 4-low the lighted display on the floor shows just the
back wheels lighting up. Somebody told me that when it did that
the actuator is bad? But any way i went and got another one and got
it back to the house to put it in, and it was completely different
than the one that was on there. The one that was on the truck is
all plastic and has a three wire square plug on it. The one
I bought is all metal, has a two wire oval plug and the part that
screws in is longer than the other one...But it does screw in the
hole and before you screw in even a 1/4in it starts pushing on
something inside. All the parts stores only had that one and said
it would fit like a 89-92 truck so....I don't know what to do?
Do they make a different version of actuator:crazy: ? Thanks

Most part stores only carry the one you purchased. When I worked at Oreilly Auto we only carried the same one. Take yours back and have them look in their manufacturers picture book and match one to yours. Most a very similar and will fit or screw into the drivetrain, but only one will work properly. The one you purchased may fit 89-92 or whatever, but maybe only 3/4 ton or trucks with pushbutton 4x4 etc. If you can't get service, go somewhere else, maybe even the dealer. You might be suprised, they might not be as expensive as you might think. Make sure what chasis you have, it might say 1500 or 2500 on the door but have 8 lug wheels, check out the GVW on the inside of the driver door. Check your t-case for the proper model #, usually a tag under one of the case bolts. One more thing, most GM electrical parts have some kind of part #, have them cross it.

You might be able to get something from the VIN from a dealership.
