I have a black 1997 Suburban. I really like this truck. It has 125,000 miles on it. I have been thinkiing lately about getting a new Suburban but you all know how much those cost. My 350 doesnt' do what I want anymore and I think it's ready for some new life. My question to all of you is....what should I keep in mind when thinking about tearing the 350 out and putting in some monster crate motor? I will have to buy a car for my wife to drive while this project is in the works. It can't be as simple as swaping the engine. We are talking computers going away and everything. What else do the computers control that will be removed? Is this a crazy idea? Any feedback would be appreciated.

You can put the monster motor in, but you will need to get a tranny that is not controlled by the computer. A 700R4 can be installed and the controls be maintained by the tranny pressures itseld, vice having the computer lock it up. The speedo is controlled by the ocmputer in th elater models and it would have to have an alignemnt ot he speed sensor on the different tranny.
