I would like to change my screen name. I joined before I got the truck & I couldn’t think of a name that wasn’t already taken, and as a non member I couldn’t search members to see what was available. Now that I have been here a while, and got to know some of you, I have decided on a name that will fit with the theme of this site and be more appealing to my styles & Ideas.
To reduce confusion with the name change we could replace “registered user” with “formerly dmx84”. I would like to get this done before I refer my friend to signing up (so I won’t loose my referral too). If this is not possible, I would like to re-register but this will loose all my posts.
What are my options?

I'm in the same prediciment(sp) with you, only I had my truck before I joined. There are so many members, it's really hard to find a fitting name that hasn't been taken. I had two firebirds that I combined into one, is where my name came from. I don't think they will let you change your name, but I never asked. Try PMing Josh, worth a try. Probably just have to start over and put "formerly dmx84" in your signature.

XVII. Name changes: there are very few instances that warrant a user name change. If you need to change your name contact and Administrator and tell them you are changing your user name. Register the new name and an Administrator will delete your old account. If you do not notify an Administrator of the new account, it will be assumed to be a dummy account and dealt with as stated previously.

Is it technically not possible to do on this board? Or by administrator's choice? It's easy enough to do on ebay- they show your old ID in your account history so everyone will know who you are.

its able to be done. There are several reasons it isn't. The number one reason is the amount of sellers on the site. If we allowed name changes it causes confusion with selling items and bad deals. Also subscribing members, we then have to change many aspects of their account, not just a name. As well as when one person wants a name change and it has been done ( in the past ) then a whole bunch more want it done, when they see one changed.
It takes time away from the things we have to do daily and is generally a pain to deal with.

Starting over is definitely going to be a deterrent. I will loose over 50 posts when it’s all said and done. But that’s ok; I plan on being here a long time anyway. I’m referring a friend to become a member next week too.

One concern, I have an ongoing thread with lots of good discussion, when my profile gets deleted will it be deleted from the thread also?
