i put a painless harness in my truck and the headlights and tailights are not working. The headlights and Tailights should be grounded by their contact with the truck correct??? And my headlight switch in the dash isnt working right, when i pull out the knob it slids all the way out. Am i missing a part or is it not installed right. Please help, have to have it insepcted by this week!!

as in the knob is falling out in your hand?

when i pull the knob to turn the lights on the whole thing slides out, before it would stop.

as far as grounds the headlights ground to the rad core and there should be a ground frm the core support to the frame and the taillights ground to the box and the box needs a ground wire from the box to the frame
theres a springy thing up in back of the dash on the headlight switch to release the shaft and knob// it's possible the shaft is broken inside the switch by somebody not knowing how to remove the knob?? so you might need new switch and or new knob
