n2billet 01-08-2007, 12:39 PM looks good, but why aren't the frame rails planted on the ground??? :)
I'm waiting on the full frame photo op before I plant it on the turf:lol:
abadsvt 01-08-2007, 12:51 PM What front end is that? I like the shockwave mounts!
Deuce 01-08-2007, 02:23 PM Who's front cross member did he use?? Porterbuilt's??
Alvin 01-08-2007, 03:52 PM Looks more like a regular mustang II IFS than porterbuilt's dropmember.. but I'm no expert.
72slam 01-08-2007, 04:03 PM Who makes those wheels? I can't make out the name. I really like those.
Film Guy 01-08-2007, 09:32 PM Hi Guys, I'm not really sure where to begin, It's a very long story. Quick recap. I have a long bed 72 Cheyenne Super (big block). I want a short bed on air, in the weeds rollin 20's. Started with a original short bed 68 chassis. Stripped it and installed a KP Components notch. Installed a Fatman Fab MII front suspension w/ Shockwaves. Upgraded the brakes to a Willwood 6-piston front caliper and a 13 inch rotor. Ordered the wheels. Custom made Forge line 3-piece. Fronts are 20x10 and the rears are 20x12.5. Out back is a Ford 9-inch w/ Nodular case 31 spline axles and a Detroit Tru-trac. Again Willwood brakes 4 piston internal parking brake type. CPP trailing arms connect to a E.C.E. cross-member. I have been accumulating parts to make this happen for 2 years. I'm just glad to see it roll.
porterbuilt 01-08-2007, 10:45 PM Definitely a nice start on the foundation! What is the body going to look like?
Film Guy 01-08-2007, 11:03 PM Outside the body is completely stock. 72 Cheyenne Super Fleet-side short-bed. Solid black paint, upper and lower chrome installed. Lower chrome has wood grain. All emblems and lights are present. Fuel tank is no longer in cab and hole welded up. Chrome under rear window (paint separator) has been removed. Other than that, Its bone stock. I restored this truck about 8 years ago. Paint is still in good shape. I would post more pics but I can't seem to re-size them properly for this site. I am working on that.
SCOTI 01-09-2007, 12:52 AM Is it @ SOS? If so..... what are you having done?
CHYNSPR 01-09-2007, 10:13 AM Really looking forward to more pics, I have the same truck and it will also be black, full trim, bagged with 20's.
This one looks like it will be real nice! Please keep us up to date!
b&a72 01-09-2007, 11:26 AM What size tires are you running front and back?
Film Guy 01-09-2007, 03:06 PM Up front I'm rollin 255/40R20 Toyo Proxy ST.
Out back 315/35R20 Toyo Proxy ST.
n2billet 01-12-2007, 01:23 PM Got some pictures of the truck the way it looks today, it's already a nice truck but after Ron gets finished it's going to be a Vette with a bed!
IvelDesigns 01-12-2007, 01:40 PM calling that a nice truck is an understatement...
I can't imagine what it's gonna look like when it's done.
Yes already nice. I love lowered longbeds.
jimmydean 01-12-2007, 05:15 PM Makes me sick! Man, that looks so good it makes me want to pimp myself out to afford my own project. :D
Makes me sick! Man, that looks so good it makes me want to pimp myself out to afford my own project. :D

jimmydean 01-12-2007, 11:11 PM Ouch. Well, I still have both kidneys, guess I'll put one up on Craigs List so I can get my dropmember.

Film Guy 02-13-2007, 07:35 PM Thanks for all the complements, But there is still a lot of work to be done. I have decided to cut the front cross-member some to lower it a bit more. I will snap a few pics of the progress.
abadsvt 02-14-2007, 01:28 AM Looks SICK!!! I love the grey wheels! Man i can't wait to get back into town to work on my truck. Your definately going in the right direction! Keep it up.
Josh
GREASEMONKEY72 02-14-2007, 01:41 AM that is so sic i cant even discribe how much i love it, hows the paint going to be? you going to leave it gloss black with the trim? cause that looks bitchin already
GMCGRANDS 02-14-2007, 09:43 PM Hey Film Guy looks great. Before you cut on the front crossmember did you use the dropped spindles? I have the same Fatman front suspension and swapped the spindles for the dropped ones and dropped it two more inchs. I would like to see a side shot straight on if you can. I modded my crossmember to move it forward on the frame rails about 1.25" if I remember right. This centered the wheels in the the fender opening. I like the forgeline wheels. Looking good keep the pictures up. There great inspiration for those of us that have run out of time and money.
kyle4381 02-14-2007, 09:53 PM Nice ride.. keep up the good work..
Raguemoe 02-15-2007, 01:19 AM Nice truck and a shelf full of R/C cars! Wow, you are the man!
BigSky71 02-15-2007, 12:58 PM Up front I'm rollin 255/40R20 Toyo Proxy ST.
Out back 315/35R20 Toyo Proxy ST.
I just ordered that 315/35 Proxy to see how it will fit on my 20x10s. My tire guy thinks it will be ok, I think it might be too wide for my little 10" wide wheel, lol.
jkade 02-15-2007, 09:44 PM Finally moved some sheetmetal around. Here's a pic.
Pa-Dow:happy:
My new favorite truck. Wanna trade for a blazer;)
Film Guy 02-20-2007, 10:12 AM Hi Guys, I got the cross-member notched last weekend. I assembled everything last night. GMCGrands, I am using the drop spindles already. What I am concerned about is the ride height. As you know, in order for the front suspension to have proper geometry the lower control arm must be parallel to the ground. When I aired the truck so the lower control arms were level to the ground, the truck was too high. I cut 1.75 inched out of the cross-member to move it up into the frame. I assembled everything last night and now I think its good. The pic you seen on page 2 of the truck assembled is now very close to how it looks @ ride height. I will post more pics soon.
N2TRUX 02-20-2007, 10:40 AM Keep us posted...:metal:
Film Guy 02-26-2007, 10:38 PM Here is the update. I wanted the ride height to be very low tuckin 20's. But I plan to drive this truck. So the suspension must have proper geometry. This means I must move the cross-member up into the frame. Here are a few pics as I disassembled.
franky69c10 02-26-2007, 10:40 PM i need more piicccssss..........please..LOL
Film Guy 02-26-2007, 10:46 PM This is after a slight modification. I removed 1.75 inches to move the cross-member higher in the frame. I also removed the "bolt-in" feature. The cross-member is now a weld in cross-member. I have not welded it yet. I am only mocking up. I will weld it once I know it properly placed.
porterbuilt 02-26-2007, 10:49 PM Your truck is definitely going to be a head turner!
72CSTC5 02-26-2007, 10:49 PM Are you going to have to notch the frame now for the tie rod? How about some pics from the inside out on the frame
Film Guy 02-26-2007, 10:54 PM Ok and here is the new ride height stance. Lower control arm is level with the ground.
Film Guy 02-26-2007, 10:57 PM 72cstc5, I didn't have to notch the frame for the rack. I still got 3/8 of an inch clearance.
IvelDesigns 02-26-2007, 10:58 PM can't wait to see this one completed. great build
SactoJim 02-26-2007, 11:16 PM Great.....another project that make my frame off resto look MUNDANE.............thanks!!

Film Guy 04-17-2007, 11:31 PM Hi Guys, not a lot has been happening. I had sent the front wheels back to Forgeline to have the backspacing adjusted. I kinda lost a little interest after the Decator swap meet. If battling the wind all afternoon wasn't bad enough, I got home only to find the wind had picked up my perfectly painted hood and thrown it across my patio. Now I get to add another part to the list.:(
I got the wheels back and they fit good. Here is a pic
72CSTC5 04-17-2007, 11:37 PM Looks awesome, sorry about your loss. Question, you took the moldings off of the truck?
