What is the average gas mileage that you guys get with your 5.3? In town and interstate. I have a 97 chevy truck now and might get a newer truck if it get a lot gas mileage. With the 97 I get 12 in town and 16 on the interstate. Also if you've had any mileage improvement over stock, and what did you add? Thanks :)

I have a 2000 5.3l 4x4 Sierra Ext Cab
I average about 16MPG mixed highway and city driving with a pretty heavy foot :D
I also have a flowmaster exhaust, K&N open element filter setup and a custom tuned PCM.
My MPG is about the same as it was with the stock PCM and the exhaust/intake mods.

16-18 on the 2005 Tahoe... If the new trucks had the displacement on demand then you would get a little better on the highway....
My 2000 ext cab 4x4 with 5.3 stock gets 18-19 highway 75mph max. Around town get 15-16. Towing my 18ft 1500lb flat bed empty gives 16mpg and with a full load trailer--12mpg.

Mine gets around 14-15 around town. I haven't clocked it on a trip but better than my old truck.

Hey guys i'm new here just thought i would chime in, my 5.3 gets 17-18 around town as good as 20-21 highway, but I also drive like grandpa. The only engine mods are a 40 series flowmaster and an AEM brute force air intake.

My 03 Silverado extended cab SWB 4x2 was getting 18-19 on average. It went down when pulling my 5000# RV trailer though. Even when I had the Whipple supercharger on it, it still got about the same, except for when my foot got heavy. Blowing the doors off of the little souped up ricers was a hoot!

On my 99 Z71 EC/SB w/ the 265 tires and 3.73 gears I'm around 13 in town and 15-16 on the highway (70-75) during the warm months. I lose 1-2mpg in both situations.
My truck has almost 118,000 on it, new plugs/wires at 100,000. I replaced the fuel filter when I bought it, around 80-85,000, might be time for a new one. Anyway, I haven't seen any increase or decrease w/ the new plugs/wires, and I put a new cat back (magnaflow) on it about 2 weeks ago and that didn't seem to do anything mileage wise, but it is winter.
I'm jealous of these guys reporting 18/19 w/ virtually the same truck, just newer, I drive my truck w/ a light food and don't think I could get that mileage driving 55 all highway.
