Well I'm putting my dash back together after replacing the column with a 76 model tilt. I also replaced most of the gauge cluster, including all the bulbs, etc. Prior to actually installing the cluster, I wanted to make sure all the lights work prior--as we all know how fun it is to work on the back of it after it's installed. The problem is when I turn my headights on the cluster lights barely come on. My voltage reading is only 4 to 6 or 7 volts at the gauge cluster. Even with the lights off the voltage reading is low. Also, when I turn the blinkers on, one side is dim with very low voltage and the other is semi-bright. Niether will flash. Emergency flashers the same.
Should I run a seperate ground from the gauge cluster to the body? or do you think something else besides a bad ground is up. This is a 70 K20 manual shift if that matters. Also, I have checked all bulbs and they are good. I replaced the flasher and still no flashing. Any suggestions would be appreciated as this is starting to take way too much time.
Thanks, Matt

start with the ground as you indicated.

As far as the cluster lights go, did you try adjusting the head light switch back and forth?
Is it a new turn signal switch, if used are the contacts clean , also it could be a bad emergency blinker or back at the turn switch.

check how the connector is plugged into the gauge panel. once I had one loose and when I plugged it back in some of the traces were twisted under the plug and caused a lot of different problems. if it was working right before removing this is probably the answer. since having this problem I always replace bulbs from the front, its easier anyhow, just have to remove the gauges to get to some of them, also allowing you to clean the connections for the gauges. hope this helps, just my experiences.

my answer maybe doesn't apply if your truck isn't 73-87.

I'll mess with the ground some more--maybe run a new one and see what happens. The printed circuit board is new as is all the bulbs.
