I want to cut a 2 1/2 inch hole in the side of my truck canopy to install a filler cap for a extra fuel tank in the back. I am using a marine filler.
Any suggestions on cutting the hole?
Hole saw?
Jig saw?

is it fiberglass? if it is.i would use a hole saw on your drill.mask the area off,so you dont tear the glass up.i've seen it done on alot of boating shows on diy.or just search around on internet.type in "hole drilling in fiberglass" on yahoo search, then read for ever if you want.

I'm pretty sure it is fiberglass as the inside is unfinished and has the rough appearance of fiberglass.
Thanks, I was worried what a hole saw might due to fiberglass.

Masking tape and a hole saw. Cut part way thru starting on the paint side. Then go on the rough side and finish cutting thru. Cut approx 1/2 the way thru from both sides. This will keep from splintering out. Cutting thru from one side will allow the 'glass to splinter when you break thru.
Doing it this way will give you a clean hole and the tape will keep the paint from chipping.
