Yeah, that first one - Outpost - the Professional version says it only requires Windows 98 - maybe the Free one only supports later. If so - that's my bad.

I assume they gave up on supporting Win98 since Microsoft no longer supports or releases security patches for Win98/ME. No point in trying to manufacture security software like a firewall for a version of Windows that will never get another security update...and is ten times more likely to be widely targetted by hackers.

Zone Alarm was xp-only but Ill check into the Outpost.

Not that I am an expert on the matter, but I would suggest you get rid of 98 and update to an OS that is supported. Get XP and you will never miss 98 IMHO.

At least get a product that Microsoft still supports and provides security updates for.

By running Windows 98 on your machine, you're basically in a situation of "when I get hacked", not "if I get hacked".

Scroll down to the 4.5 branch (download v 4.5.594.000). It should install on Win98 system with no problems. Please be aware it's a very basic firewall, but will do its job.
