The acids are neutralized after they dip them nowadays. And the dipping gets where blasting does not. But if you get it dipped, get it coated with either etch primer or a good epoxy primer. I had my '62 Impala dipped and they did a fantastic job. It got multiple layers of paint, undercoating, and gunk out of every nook and cranny. One other alternative that you may want to look into is cooking the paint off. Quite a few places do this. If you have any large powdercoating facilities around, check with them. Basically what it is, is a large oven. They slowly bring the temps up, cooks the paint off, then slowly drop the temp. Warpage does not occur and it turns everything to ash. So any bondo, wiring, etc. is gone. 65-72 chevytoys 01-11-2007, 02:14 PM :agree: Both have advantages and disadvantages. Dipping gets to places that blasting cant. But if you have access to blasting equipment you can do it yourself. You have to take it to a facitlity to have it chemically stripped. bigdon-70blazer 01-11-2007, 05:17 PM I appreciate all comments. I am planning to make a body rotisserie and will brace thos doors before going to that. Anybody got any pics of the blazer tub on a body rotisserie? Just looking for possibilities and ideas...Thanks forum! shorty72 01-17-2007, 12:53 AM Sandblast it, then u can just go over it with DP. If you media blast it you have to go over it with sandpaper and make it smooth and if you dip it you have to wash it and get all the chemical off of it befor you spray. Sandblasting it would be a lot less work. |
