Just wondering which people have bought the home sand blasting equipement that hooks up to an air compressor. What brand did you buy and how well did it work? How much did it cost? I'll be getting a truck soon and want to do all the work myself....sand blasting, welding, eventually painting. Are the cheapy sand blasters good for frame, body and other things?

Thanks ahead of time.

For me the ALC 150lb pressure blaser from Northern Tools (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&productId=7959&R=7959)is the best bang for the buck.

what do you use as your media....sand? or other chemicals?

EDIT-ive never sanded so i don't know if "media" is the right word to use when refering to particals.

I bought a pressurized unit, 10 gal I think it is. I ran it at work on an 80 gallon compressor and it worked the compressor fairly hard, but it got the job done.

NOTE: Silica from blasting with sand will kill you! If you can get another media besides "play sand" get it. If you blast at home and you have neighbors who are in the know about the dangers of silica, be careful because if they get mad, they definitely are in the right about the pollution. And of course wear a good respirator. I am told even some silica in your lungs now can cause you big problems but not show for years down the road...

Cool deal, thanks. I only have a 30 gallon compressor so i've pretty much accepted that buying my own blaster won't be good for doing the body and frame at home. I figure I'll save up and get it done prof. and have them put a coat of primer.
