One of the things you need to know about GNU license software is that it doesn't follow very many standards. It's NOT going to behave like a "normal" Windows program.

First, go to Sourceforge for the code... http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

Second, read every single word they offer up as "docs" or "FAQ."

Next, download the code you need. Do NOT EVER download anything not called "latest stable version" ... the word stable is important. It means the other stuff is (probably) UNstable :eek:

You need to download and install the GTK+ Runtime environment FIRST. Then you can install the actual GIMP program. I wouldn't recommend installing the GIMP Animation Package as you're going to have your hands full for a time with the base GIMP.

Practice... a lot.

All I can say is if you have not done any photoshoping than chances are it's harder than it looks. But it gets easier the more you practice.
