View Full Version : speaker mounting
slepysal 01-13-2007, 07:10 PM Ok so I decided to install a cd player. My truck has 5" speaker holes HACKED , not cut, on the door. No biggie I installed some and they fit good.
Now what can I do for the rear speakers? There is no room under or behind the seat, Any Tips, tricks or Ideas would be great Thanks Sal
04Xrider 01-13-2007, 07:45 PM I cut holes in the back panel and installed mine. Feeding the wire from the right speaker over to the left side was a tad tedious, but worth it.

Thanks any pics ?
04Xrider 01-14-2007, 12:36 PM Here you go. I made a template using the speakers, then I used a die grinder with a small cut off wheel to make the holes, then cleaned them using the die grinder and rounfd file. Should look factory after I repaint the cab and install the covers. http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/3423/1786100_0056.jpg http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/3423/1786100_0070.jpg

zenish 01-14-2007, 08:53 PM o4,you should add two more, evenly spaced.slepy whatever you do don't put them in the piller beside/hind your head.i did and hate it.
poorboy 01-14-2007, 09:03 PM 04Xrider are those 6x9's?
poorboy 01-14-2007, 09:04 PM I also agree that is a nice location.
04Xrider 01-14-2007, 09:28 PM 04Xrider are those 6x9's? They are just 4"X6", but they put out plenty of high quality sound. I think you could squeeze in a 6X9, but the back panel has a bit of a arch, and they would not sit flush, maybe a 1/4" gap in the middle. Also the two panels start getting pretty close to one when you get in that upper area.
slepysal 01-14-2007, 11:03 PM very nice!!! Thanks for the tip
04Xrider 01-15-2007, 09:32 AM Thanks all!

Chevy Fleetside 01-16-2007, 10:54 AM Dosen't the seat rest on the face of the speakers when it is all the way back?
I took the gas tank out of my truck and built some boxes. There really isn't much room back there for much. I managed to get in two 6x9's, one 10" sub which work fairly well, two amps and a 12 disc cd changer.. I used a piece of 1/2 plywood and mounted it to the old gas tank strap mounts, and then screwed the units to that.. In the 2nd picture I took the doors off of the vents and cut a piece of plexi-glass to fit over the front of the vent frame and cut a hole in the plexi for the speaker to bolt to and then screwed it all to the orignial holes...

Well...I have been driving the "chief" everyday to and from the shop. I haven't done much to it yet. I plan to re-primer it with the real stuff hopefully before the summer.....the rattle can stuff was only temporary. Before that I'm going to do, what Rich calls, a "KRYLON" rebuild on the engine.. I am going to yank the engine, and do a make over on the engine and engine compartment...change out the intake for a 4brl...re-gasket, etc.
Thats about it...I have been working on Rich's caddy. Check out all my work here on this forumn....I am "REin4ST" on layitlow. This link will take you to page 9...there like over 20 pages...Check out my work...THIS IS WHY I HAVE NO TIME FOR MY OWN PROJECTS !!!!:(
