Rokcrln 03-23-2008, 01:54 AM Looks great, cant wait for the final touches and the newest projects pics and progress.
Motivation damnit,I need motivation........errrrr and money, lots of it and time, lots of it.
Here is the curent project rolling out of my shop next week (all metal work is complete:metal:) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=241695
I am heading up to Napa in the morning to look at a 40 chevy PU that I will be doing some mods and body and paint to in the next month or so.
I also have another board members 2wd blazer comming in next week to start a suspension job on. He is going Air ride with a few mods.
I will also be getting extd56's crew cab back next friday or monday for a few more finishing metal touches.
And I might also be starting the 4dr burb build that is sitting in my side shop right now. I am going to look at a doner cab tonight for some parts I need for the door jamb. This will also get shortened down to a Tahoe before I sell it;)
I am in talks with a guy who has a 33 Dodge PU that he got from his dad after he passed away. He wants to modernize it and I want to do the work so I am writing up a perposal of posible ideas that I will present to him in a few weeks. Other than that I have beed slacking and not doing a damb thing.
Oh did I mention I painted a 46 4dr chevy street rods last weekend!

slammed1 03-23-2008, 02:05 AM Your on a mission my friend.
Im more tuned with mechanicals and suspension compared to paint and body,I can do those too but I get lazy on those items because I dont have the place to do the complete body and paint start to finish but do have for getting brakes, suspension, engine, drivetrain up to par and driveable.
jlaird 03-23-2008, 05:54 AM went back a few pages, but couldnt find any info...is the exterior trim original or repop? If repop, where did you buy it? Looks great!

67ChevyRedneck 03-24-2008, 06:19 AM Hey Kevin,
Just wanted to give you some props for completing such a beautiful truck with great custom touches fairly cheap and for DRIVING IT. You're a great asset to this board. I look forward to watching your other builds progress.
jbon64 03-24-2008, 07:13 AM i've been away from the site for a while and really enjoyed reading thru this build up . very inspiring indeed.
Ackattack 03-24-2008, 09:39 AM I didn't see a final total on time and money.
I have to say that a nice set of polished wheels would go a long way to make a great looking truck look better. The thing is to nice to have a set of stock wheels on it.

Maybe tonight I will go back and figure out the totals. I will be keeping the stock wheels because what I was going for was a stock looking truck at first glance and I think I pulled it off. Plus now my vehical fund is starting to build up for my blazer build. I have a few more builds I will be doing just to sell to help fund the 2wd Blazer. I have $435 more to spend on LowBuck to get the bed done but that is about it.
This weekend My wife and I spent 2days together crusing the truck around Napa and the SF bay area. We had our son with us today for his first SF trip. We did about 300 miles or so just driving around looking at our next shop projects and seeing family and friends. Here are some pics of the next two shop projects that will be adding funds to the blazer build. 69 427 vett (paint job) and a 41 chevy pu getting some mods and full body work and paint. Then a few from our trip today.

SactoJim 03-25-2008, 07:27 AM Definately perfect weather for a cruise this weekend......took mine out yesterday. Seen that view of the Golden Gate coming in from the Marin side many times. Don't know if you've ever been, but right before you go over the bridge, you can exit to the right (stay right) and go up an incredibly scenic view road on the west side of the bridge......talk about beautiful on a clear day!
Looks like some cool projects your takin on.

Some time one has to die so others can live, this is the way of the vehical jungle!
The one I cut up was a big POS that was not worth saving. The only real usable parts were the B jambs. One was a good cab and I am using that one for a new project so it will not see the crusher but it may have if I did not save it. Wait untill you see the 67 small window cab I might be cutting up for the B jambs next:devil:

jugernot 04-01-2008, 07:54 AM I had to opportunity to go for a ride in Low Buck this past weekend as well as drive it. I did not take it much over 15 mph ( I know how much work has gone into it and did not want to be the one to wreck it). Kevin took me for a little spin and I will say only this. If you thought it looked good you should see and feel how it handles. That LT1 and beefed up 700R are an excellent combination in the truck. I LIKE IT. I hope I'm not disappointed when I get mine running (327 and turbo 350).
Thanks Kevin. Nice Truck

Hey Kevin, thank you for the complements. Comming from you, I really appreciate it. I have seen your shop and work through the threads here and you guys do awesome work! I wish I could come snoot around in your spare parts for a bit... LOL
I started doing paint and body when I was about 16 so that means I have been around it for about 20 years or so. I have done a few restrorations for others but my '67 short-step is the first I have done for me. Always something new to learn. I own Quality Body and Paint Solutions in Sutherlin, OR and I can't imagine doing anything else for a living. I love working on cars and this line of it keeps me from getting all greasy and nasty!
You know, what I love about this site is that everyone has a different idea of what is cool. Gives me a fresh new way of looking at things and how to get to the end of a project. I'm keeping an eye on your threads... keep up the good work!

Yes on the wheel opening's front bottom edge of a SWB truck it comes to a point and on a LWB it has more of a radius to it.

Rokcrln 04-23-2008, 05:44 AM Well not alot of things have been going on with LowBuck because my comuter car is in the shop so I have been driving LowBuck daily. So far I have put over 4k miles on it since getting it back on the road but tonight I made progress by getting the in dash temp gauge working. I had a friend make an adapter that uses the stock 1/2npt sender but screws into the 3/8npt head location and it works great. Then the shop across the street owed me a few favors so he had time to charge up my vintage air syatem. He was wanting to get about 40* out of the vents but when it charged up it was right at 34*:metal: Now I just need the hot weather to get here so I can enjoy it.
As soon as the honda is out of the shop I will get the Line-X put in, drop it off at the alarm shop and tweak the sterio a bit.
So what is a good alarm system to get as it has been ten years since I have had one. Back then the Viper was one of the best but not I have no idea.

Lo Jack is the only one that I know of that police departments endorse. SFPD uses thier systems for tracking the stolen cars that are equipmented with the lo jack system, It works really well, trust me.

Yep feel free to send me more info or other ideas. I live in a great town and a real good area but I have to leave from time to time:lol:
I am starting to look at sterio equip and trying to decide were and what I want to run. I don't want to spend over 1k on the system and I already have the deck. My doors are already cut so I might make a lower fiber glass panel with a nice set of 6" w/seperate tweaters angled up tward the other pass then a 10 or 12 behind the seat. I don't want alot of base but I do want a full sound when doing 70 down the freeway.
Were are you all placing speakers to get the sound up at chest/head levels?

Daniel U 05-03-2008, 06:39 PM This is what I thought about doing. Cool thread! There's a LWB down the street from me that looks solid for 1,800. It would make a good dump/work truck until it could be restored to it's swb glory. The only problem is the wife wants a '73-75 Chevy 4X4(not that it's a real problem). I need a bigger garage before she'll let me get another project. Thank you for the detailed thread with good pics. Beautiful truck!

We have been taliking about doing one of these trucks for at least 15 years now. I finally found one last week, a long bed, also soon to be a shortie. This has been one of the best threads I have ever read.

Yes but tell your wife you will need a work truck to get all the material for building that garage and a LWB is the best way to go. Then build the truck stall about 2" to short for a LWB to fit so the only thing to do is convert it to a SWB:lol:

Rokcrln 05-31-2008, 08:42 PM Well not much progress on Low Buck in the last month or two. I did just finish my Napa Volt meter upgrade and I will post a pick later on today. I have been having Alt problems for the last several weeks as in burned up 3 alts two were new remans. I think it was just a fluke because I checked all my wiring and it seems fine. I am getting #3 of the remans today and will see how it does. They are 140amp alts for the 92 vett motor but my luck just has not been that good I guess.
I did just notice that the view count on this thread is over 100,000 WOW I wonder if I get a door prize now. I did not even know our counting window would suport that much!

clay68c10 05-31-2008, 11:52 PM Do you have a local electric guy available to go thru your alternator? I've had pretty bad luck with re-man parts house stuff like that.
Dude, everyone pops in to look at this thread on a regular basis!
Rokcrln 06-01-2008, 06:16 AM No we just kepted putting them on the tester to see if they were good before I put them on. My motor came with a 124amp alt and when it went out last month I steped up to the 140amp option for that yr motor and after 2 being no good after being installed for less then 1 day we decided to go back to the 124amp alt thinking that maybe they have a bad batch of the 140's. I changed it out today and got the volt gauge installed in the dash behind the stock bezel (thanks Gringoloco for the thread http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=251017 ) and went for a drive. I drove around for about 2hrs with the duel engine fans running and the A/C blasting and it never ran so good or at least not in the last month or so or it could just be I have not driven anything but my work honda civic since this started.
The gauge swap went well, I used a $14 volt meter gauge from Napa auto parts and Gringo's thread to put a new gauge behind the factory gauge face. It went well and since I did not do anything different than his build thread I figured I would let you read his for info. Now the only gauge that is not working is my Vacume gauge that really is an Air psi gauge from a c60 or somthing but the new dash plastics only come with "Vacume" as the fouth option for the small gauges. I did hook up the tubing adapter and tested the gauge and it works great. I will hook this gauge up to my rear air bags that I use when towing but so far I have been lazy and have not installed the switch that will activate the bags from inside the cab. I have the switch and it is a simple three way rocker switch that will inflate and deflate the bags with out an electric valve. It is not the best way to go but it is very LOW BUCK and since it is not for suspnesion I figured why not.
I also still need to get the bed line-X'd but I have been spending my toy money on my sons truck. It is a 51 Ford F1 that is getting a 95 T-bird IRS rear set up with disk and bags . The front is getting a TCI MII with PS, Disk, tubular A arms, sway bar and bags as well. Then I picked up a 2005 5.3L Vortec with a 4l60E with only 22k miles on it. I am keeping the body stock with 50 plus yrs of Patina wear to it with some steel rims, trim rings and caps sitting on the running boards. I have all the parts but I blew out my back a few weeks ago so I am a few customer builds behind in the shop. I am starting to feel much better and hope to be back to work in another week or so than once the curent customer build is done I will roll the F1 in and get started on it. I will post a link to that build thread since it will be on a Ford site;) Take care.
here is what I am starting with.

I read thru that page but the pics did not come up. I might be a little sleepy or maybe because I could not see a pic but is the kit a stand alone mini harness with the diods already installed? I am willing to spend the money if it works becaue with a full charge on my truck I can get about 45miles before it takes a sh!t since everything is electric and draws down quick.

I'm not sure about that kit, I was just referencing it for the resistor discussion. I just installed a Radio Shack light that had the correct resistance in it. Here are a couple of more threads that give some good information about installing these alternators.

Rokcrln 06-01-2008, 05:46 PM Sweet now that makes sence and no I do not have a resister in my system yet! Another 55min until the part store opens;) I will pick one up and add a small write up to this after I get it hooked up. Thanks again, I knew it had to be me and the 140amp alts must just need this more than the 124amps do?

Rokcrln 06-02-2008, 05:07 PM Ok my resister is comming in tonight so I can get it all squared away. Then I will clean things up a bit for our local (first Tuesday of the month) car show were they shut down mainstreet and it is nothing but cars. Then next weekend is a big show in Woodland on Sunday and on Saturday night their is a big Pot Luck at the president of the car shows house and that was a blast last year.
So here is a pic from last years car show. Boy things have changed a bit in a year. I took second place in the under construction class.

Rokcrln 06-02-2008, 10:01 PM I know it is not very interesting but all the same it is needed work. Here is the part needed to keep the new alt alive when you do not have an idiot light and want your alt to last longer then the last 3 I put in lasted. I just cut off the tape that came around the diod and slpiced it into my exciter lead. I use cripm and solder conectors then sealed it up in shrink tube before wraping it back in to its loom and covering it up. Now lets hope this all works!
Keep in mind if all you want to do is replace your old external alt with a new hi amp internal alt then this is the harness to buy because all you do is plug it into your old alt plug and your new alt and call it done.

BACKYARD88 06-02-2008, 10:10 PM Are all of the LT1 belts ribbed on both sides? I don't remember them being that way but I could be wrong:D If not is there a special reason yours is?

X2 why is it that way?
Rokcrln 06-02-2008, 10:45 PM No just the Vett's were double ribbed. The power steering runs on the "back side" of the belt and I guess they needed a bit more traction. SO every pully, idler and tentioner are ribbed.

djw32 06-04-2008, 12:32 PM Kevin,
The truck looks great! Did you ever finish the exhaust? I thought you wanted to put duals on it...i thought. Also, you are running sanderson headers, right? If so, how is the connection between the collecter and the exhaust pipe? Did you do something custom?

No I still need to re-do the exhaust but it will stay single just get raised up into the cross member. The headers are Sanderson's and I have zero complaints! The connection is just what they supplied with the headers and that was just a short connection flange. I also still need to get the bed Line-x'd and new tires and then she is done for now! I think I will add power windows down the road.

djw32 06-04-2008, 02:45 PM Short connection flange? I didn't get a short connection flange...Did you use the stock exhaust setup? Better yet, is your exhaust stock from the short connection flange back?

Keep in mind I had these headers proto typed over 9yrs ago direct from Sanderson's and I may have asked for the flanges. The rest of my exhaust is what I had done in the early stages of this build when I had the old carb'd crate 350 in their. Then when I swapped to the LT1 I just scabbed the exhaust back together and that is one reason for having it re-done when I get around to it.

Rokcrln 07-05-2008, 05:11 PM Thanks guys this truck did turn out great from a driver stand point. It get looks every were I go but it is just not custom enough. So I have a new truck on the drawing board (and in the rear driveway) that will be our all out show truck for my company. I will be getting started on it in about a month and figure about 1000hrs for completion. The sad part for you guys is it is not a :chevy: But will be a bad A$$ custom all the same that I am sure even the pure die hard Chevy guys will like.

I am building this for an all out show vehicle that will have a bit of everything I do to help promote my company. I have a business plan that Will go full time in 5yrs so I am starting to work in that direction now. This way when I pull the plug on my 9-5 job I won't have any down time getting up and going with the new shop.

Sounds like a sweet project! Business plans are always a good thing. Eventually i would like to do the same. Building all out custom classics does sound like a good way to make a living. Good luck!

Sounds like a wild ride.
And good luck with the business plan...I'm sure it will be a success.
Rokcrln 09-23-2008, 09:42 PM Well almost 10,000 miles since the motor went in and I thought it was time to finish it up. So I made a quick gas filler cover so it can go to Line-X in the morning. I just took some tag board and made the shape I wanted and traced it out on 1018 AKDQ sheet steel. Then after some knee bending and a bit of shrinking on the top and bottom corners to fit just how I wanted it to and it was ready to screw in. I decided not to weld it just in the off chance it ever needs to come off. It should spray in like it was one piece. The Line-X will come up on the rail and stop just before the outer edge (right were the Blue tape is).
