So much for the low buck concept huh?

Yeh so it might come in at about 7k but that is still a good price concidering what extras have been added. Their is alot on this truck that could be eliminated and still have a great Clean DD. Vintage Air $1000, Tail lights and side markers $450-$700? heck already back down to $5300:metal:

It is an 89 tank so it was TBI to start with and all I did was replace the TBI (14psi?) with an LT1(45psi) pump and that was it! They are the same size pumps and it was a natural fit. Now first I removed the TBI pump and just put on a longer pick up tube and ran a carb with it. It is a great tank set up but if you have a reciever hitch and panhard bar for coils I do not think it will fit. Look thru the build thread and you will see how close it all was the way I did mine.

I forgot how many nooks and cranies their are on these cabs but I am almost done with this step. Next I will scuff down the inside and do a bit more DA work on the back and jambs. I hope to start cutting out the rust today and have the cab ready for paint by next weekend. This was about 3hrs work so far today.

Well another 5 1/2hrs to tack on to the build. I filled the gas tank filler hole (sand bag and forming hammer) rust hole on back window and one small hole on pass cab corner. I also welded up the trim holes and the holes drilled to pull dents in its past life. I then shot DP90 epoxy over all bare metal areas including inside and out of the front and rear windows.
I then stripped both doors (glass, regulators and seals) and DA the outside of them completely. Sunday I will get the other front fender srtipped, fill all holes in fenders and doors (42 holes in one of the doors!) and shoot them with DP90 as well if I have enough time.

Well maybe if I would stop making things harder on my self!
I did a few "Light Mods" today to match my bed that I did months ago. I don't even think any one noticed the bed "Light Mods" untill the post after this one:lol:

I have wanted to do this mod for years so when I chopped the bed down I went ahead and started my idea. Here we are 5-6 months later and I get to do the front. It went well and I got both fenders done today as well as filling in all the holes in both fenders and both doors. I had 45 darn hole in one door alone. It's a good thing these doors are rust free or they would have been scrap!!!! Here are a few pics to keep you all going!

Got them in DP90 tonight so I can start teh body work in a day or so. First I want to replace the rockers and "A" post bottoms as soon as I get my parts from ECE. They should be here when I get home Monday if those guys are on the Ball like always! Incase anyone wants to know why I only DP'd the out side it is because the inside was the original paint. It was still in great shape so I am just going to scuff it down and paint right over it. The out side was another story! I had to take them down to bare metal to fill holes and to get rid of those other layers of paint so just the out side got the treatment. Oh and today I spent a good 9hrs on prep and mods!

Got any pics of the back side of the front fenders? Is it all nice and smooth? I have always wondered what the looked like on the back side after shaving the lights, or in this case moving them.

If I had spent a few minutes with a disc the insode would look as good as the out side! I like to cut out the entire section and invert it to cut down on the amount of welding. Plus if you make a templet you can just flip it over for the other side.

Kevin,

Very simple tools! The small wheels are not cheap and they do not last very long but they take down any surface rust and grim quick. I start with a screw driver and hammer and work out all I can then go to the :fro: wheel and finish it up. If you have hard spots to get started with somtimes heat works well to soften it up.

Went by the paint store before comming home sick for a few days. I guess it is not a smart move to work in the shop in 45* temps when you have 103 temp your self;)

Well the body shop is open! Here is part of the stash for the paint job and the main body color. The roof will be bright white like John F's. I think it will also get the lower trim now since I have it and it will look better with the light mod I did (It will be a How-To article) and not the lowering one;)

Dropped $525 on 2 gal of blue, 2 qts of white and 1 qt of black for the top of the dash and inner fenders. Plus all the hardener and reducers.

I like the running total that your keeping. ahah Where do you get those disks at? Local hardware or paint store???

On that fender mod, did you cut out the template like that on both sides, then flipped it over and welded it on the other fender??? NICE...

Im thinking of cutting my lights out completely, just making it flush... I think that looks clean.

No I cut one out and turned it 180* and welded it back inplace on the same fender. I get the disks at the goodguys show from the same person year after year but I have no contact info.

Kerosene is to messy but I do have a few propain heaters that work well but I did alot of teh DA work out side. You know how it goes you start to work, get warm and pull off the jacket, get warmer and pull off teh knit hat and soon you are in a T-shirt thinking it is 80* out:lol: Once I set up the booth it heats up to 85 real quick. Then I turn them off, spray and heat back up till the next coat.

Being sick sucks! But the good news is the Brown Santa has been here the past two days giving gifts to those who have been good! Sure glad I ordered under my wife's name:lol:

Yesterday I recieved the parts from ECE, inner and outer rockers and A post bottoms. Then today the big slay dropped off the glass box from LMC. I bought all new glass for the truck, Windshield with green tint and the shaded top section, door, wing and rear glass as well all tinted a UV green. That should help a bit with the sun and here in Ca. it is the only legal side window tint as long as it is a factory tint not a film. Now I have all my parts but just not any time but that is better than time but no parts. I hope to head back to work in a day or so and get back on the truck in the same time at night.

Well not much has happened in the last few days but bad eating and alot of TV watching:waah: So today I am felling better and went out to the shop and sealed the rain gutters since it will need a few days to fully cure I thought might as well get it out of the way. I feel it turned out well for my first time! I just taped off the roof side about a 1/4" up and then squeezed in about a 1/4 - 3/8" bead, let it sit for a few minutes. Then with rubber gloves I used a finger and smoothed it all out. Let that sit for about 5-10 min. and pulled the tape off. I used about 1 1/2 tubes of the 3M stuff shown in the pic.

Some of those guys get that **** like glass smooth.... You will see the waves in it and what not.. When the sealant dries, can you do a light film of filler over the sealant.. So you can sand it smooth, or do you not care?? I think it looks good, but you will see a small lip where the tape line is wont you?

Im addicted to your posts like a crack head is to crack...:sumo:

Yes you will see some but I put in over my Epoxy primmer with the intention of spraying it with my fill primer and then sand that down a bit to hide any tape lines. Keep in mind this is just a driver that I might be going over board on but it is still just a driver for me! The rear smooth stuff is a two part self leveling caulking but I did not want to deal with that.

the drip rail I think it would be a bad idea to try this. The metal in their is always a bit rusty and trying to weld it would be tough and ugly. If you did get it all welded and ground smooth their would still be the problem of sitting water in the drip rail that I feel would work its way thru the paint and start to rust. If you are woried about looks then go with the self leveling drip rail caulk and call it good. Or shave;)

I decided I will be running these tail lights and markers so I figure I better run the side trim as well. I think with out the trim it will look to plain and the lights will stand out as odd and not the smooth subtle look I am going for. For trim I have all new 68 side trim I will be using so I still need to fill all the old holes. This is what it looks like! No idea on price because the side markers are not even ready for sale just yet but should be in the next month or so.

No price's as of yet. They are not even ready for sale at this point but will be very soon. The ones I have are the "old design" and are flat. The final production run of lights have more CNC work done to them like what is in the pic above. They will give a very nice look when mounted in the stock location as were mine would look bulky but for what I wanted they could not have worked better. I will be posting all the info that I can in the How-To artical. I am waiting on more info from the manufacture and also I need to get my truck in paint for some final shots.

Did a quick firewall repaint this afternoon. I just could not bring my self to leave it brown with a new paint job on the out side. I spent a bit of time moving what I could and tapping or renolds wrapping the rest. It worked out real well I only missed one real small corner that I will just use a sharpie on:lol: I also did the inner fenders while I was at it. If I had the paint I would have done them in Flat black but that was not the case so now they are nice and shinny.

Next will be the interior then the rest.

Looking Good, Kevin! Did you make a paint booth in your shop @ home?

Yeh for shooting this one I did not want to put out any money for a booth like I did for Lemon Drop. I have my shop sectioned off and right in the center is a 16'x24' area that I put a hard ceiling in with 18 or so 4' lights. Then I have one solid wall with a 3' man door that is 16' long with an 8' wall comming off at a right angle and both walls have 4' lights in the walls for side light. Then I just drop plastic for the remaining walls. It works well but it was designed for doing body work to keep the shop a bit cleaner but for a DD paint job it works fine. I wet down the floor with a soap and water mix to lock down any loose debrit that I might have missed as well as over spray.
Today it was a bout 45 degrees out side but in the booth I have heaters (off when painting) that get it right up to 75-85 degrees to help bake the paint a bit.

The cab is all done now except for the white on the roof. Turns out that Drip rail sealer I used SUCKS! It shrinks about 70% and looked like crap so I took it all out and ordered some good 3M urethane and a $100 gun to use it with. It won't be in untill Wedsday so the roof will wait till thurs day for paint. After I removed all the caulking I primmed the gutters again, sanded it all down so it was ready for paint then masked off the roof. The blue wraps down the inside or the gutter rail and stop about the bottom of the gutter. Now I will do a real tight masking job so the caulking will roll up the blue and cover the seam then die into the roof judt below the body line of the roof it self. Then 30min later I can shoot the white right over it. This should look alot better then it was going to and the white will run right to the top of the drip rail edge. I will need to use my Sata mini jet4 gun to get down in the rail the way I want it then kick things up to the Sata 3000 for the rest of the roof.

Well so much for this being a real quick paint job like i started to do. I wanted to just do a bit of body work and shoot it all together. Then i found the rust in the rockers so the doors had to come off as well as the fenders. Since the fenders came off that ment I had to remove the hood as well. While the fire wall was easy now to get to I opted for a repaint so it would look a bit better and make my EFI panels blend in better. Then the body work started and I just could not bring my self to let any little flaws not get fixed while I was their, it will only take a few extra minutes right! Then I decided I had to go a bit further and almost gut the dash so it would turn out decent and that ment more time and work to prep. So all in all it will end up nicer than I had planned but as my wife said I might as well do it right or I would never be happy with it if I didn't! She know me too well. But keep in mind this is still just my shop truck that will be used for dump runs, trailer towing and all around beating on.

The last vehical that I finished for my self was a full on 71 Bronco rock crawler that ended up in for 4X4 power mag and was totaled 24hrs later when I was down in Johnson Valley on a wheeling trip. So this one will be nice but it will get used as well.
Another 7hrs for today's work.

Turns out that Drip rail sealer I used SUCKS!
I used the 3M 2K self-leveling stuff on mine over a year ago. ZERO shrinkage and it still remains slightly pliable when cured, so no worries on cracking. Highly recommend.
