UPDATE: Radiator is almost in, got the wiring just about redone to the fuse block until I noticed that I have a piece of the wiring harness cut. Not sure how I did it but its chewed enough to warrant a new one. Took tomorrow off to run some errands and a few hours to work on the truck. Will post pics of the updates tomorrow.

Ok I got some more done today. This time on the inside.

I was looking at the old fuse panel wiring harness when I noticed a lot of surface rust on the inside surrounding the lip of the hole that the steering column goes through. After about 15 mins with the cordless drill and a wire wheel we now have this. Its not the best job but I took it to bare metal, put 2 coats or rustoleum primer with 2 topcoats to boot. Hope it will hold until I get the cab done next year.

And last but not least here is a pic of the new fuse panel and wiring harnesses. I am so glad I spent the $$ on this harness. The original looked like a chipmunk on crack got hungry and went after it. I have never seen so many splices for who knows what..

Get rid of that rubber floor mat. My Blazer had one and it had rust in it because they trap moisture under them!! Use carpet it'll dry out. Looks good man.

Made more progress today. I got the exhaust on the passenger side all hooked up. Now I need a heat riser gasket for the drivers side and I will be ready to get started on that side. Once that is done I will hook up the alternator and get it belted up.

I got the drivers side exhaust manifold on today. Also got the alternator along with the belts for the alternator and power steering.

Now all I gotta do is take off the chrome strips from the grill then take the grill to the blaster to get it blasted and shot in dp90 :) The chrome is messed up pretty good so I will have to either get lucky and find some nos :) or pay for the repop. That of course comes after I remove the pass side fender and take him to the blaster first :)

Man, this is fun to watch! Mine was a little further along when you started, but I think I am losing ground. Knowing I'm not the only one fighting with the nickel and dime stuff helps. Just seems like everything you touch has a small surprise waiting.Keep up the great work- the way you feel about your truck shows in all the little things you are doing. Why does wax and grease remover have to dry overnight?
Good on ya!

Yep it is fun to go out do take a before pic and then do some work and take a after pic. Lets me know what I got left to do LOL. Waiting for a engine wiring harness to arrive and I got the inside to do. Gotta get some sound deadner for this thing in there to.

skokie
04-13-2007, 01:06 AM
Well it's looking like the engine harness is going to be here next Monday so I am going to have a look at the cab and see what my plan of attack will be on removing the old sound deadner will be.

Ok got some work done to it tonight. I got the engine primed. Ran that drill unil oil was dripping from the rockers then I ran it for another 5 minutes just to make sure. I am hoping I can get it started this weekend. All I have left to do to get it running is to put the distributor in, put in the new plugs, hook up the battery, wire it up, put in the carb and hook up the fuel line. :)

As promised here are the pics. Tonight I spent a hour putting the carb back on, running the fuel line to the carb, gapped to 45 and installed new ac delcos r45ts, installed the new vacuum half hard line for the power brakes, and hooked up the gas pedal rod. Im hoping tomorrow I will get the motor going. Here are the pics.

Did you crease the back edge of the fender at the top? Looks good

Nope that was done for me by UPS HOWEVER!!! :) since I ordered it back in January and stupid me didnt think to check the fender I was out of luck with tri plus. On the good side the body shop guy I spoke to said for a few$$ more he would take care of it for me. So all is well. It fits good to :)

Ok Im getting nervous here :) I am putting coolant into it. Got one gallon in and and filling the container with water. I drained the block when I had it out since it was filthy. I will let everyone know how this goes.

skokie
05-30-2007, 12:35 AM
Update: I got it filled with coolant and turned it over & over & over & over. After checking everything I found that I am 1 tooth off on the distributor and the bad worst part is that I have a short in one of the wires from the dizzy that plugs into the cap. I have a new dizzy on order which should be here later this week.

skokie
06-30-2007, 10:37 PM
WOW has it been a whole month? Yep it has. I was planning on taking 3 weeks off of working on the truck. Working on it day after day burns me out on it. Well here is the latest. New Dizzy is in. I got the truck started but I had to pull the dizzy and turn the oil pump almost 1/4 turn to TDC would line up good. Once I did that I tapped the pedal 3 times and she fired up. Looked down and the tac didnt work. So I turned off the truck and plugged the ping wire from the tac harness into some power and we had 1100 rpm :)

Its getting close to put kids in bed time so I will be working on it more tomorrow after I get the yard work done. Also I scratched the hell out of he paint on the column when I installed it. I noticed that tonight so that was a bummer. Trying to think of a way to paint the scratched piece without taking out the column. Also the new fender and possibly the new grill will be headed to the body shop for a paint job. Thats all for now.

skokie
07-16-2007, 01:48 AM
OK its update time :) Other than having to remark the balance with a new tdc line I have the new fender and old grill off of the truck and they are headed to the body shop for some paint. Nothing too fancy just enough to keep the rust away. Once I get the parts back from the body shop I will post the pics.

skokie
07-24-2007, 12:36 AM
Well here is the latest. I am taking the grill and the new front fender to body shop tomorrow. Had to put it off for a week. One I have pics of them in paint I will post them up.

I like the color that is going to look great when it done.

skokie
09-29-2007, 11:11 PM
Whats funny about the color is that I asked the body shop to get as close as they can and just give me 1 coat paint and 1 coat clear so it wont rust. Well I ended up getting 2 coats each and I like that color a lot. Problem with it is that the guy said there is no paint code on it he just mixed until he got what you see :)

11-05-2007, 12:28 AM
Ok update time. I installed the grill tonight. I dont have the chrome rings for it yet but it looks pretty good without them. The grill and fenders are a little off but I will work on that later. Its starting to look like a truck again :metal:

I'm diggin the color, steel blue/grey. Now you did it though, the paint supplier is now going to have to match the paint custom for you ;)

Looking great

skokie
11-05-2007, 10:57 PM
Yep it is a cool color. Its just something that the body shop mixed up. Unfortunately there is not code for it but he said that he should be able to do it again.

Another update. The front bumper is back on. No pic yet. Keyword is yet :)

earl87gta
11-07-2007, 01:13 AM
Looking good if they can come up with a paint code of some type I would love to have it. My 68 firebird is close to that and Im going to start redoing it and that would be a great color for it.

skokie
11-09-2007, 10:16 PM
It is a nice color. The paint guy said that he could match it again or get really close to it.

skokie
11-09-2007, 10:19 PM
UPDATE:

Ok here is the latest. I am waiting for a tac/vac lens from Wes at Classic heartbeat and then the rest of this sucker will be put back together. Here is whats in pieces. The inner fenders need to be put on, as well as the dash. Need to install a new under hood wiring harness since I pinched the heck out of the old one that was there bad enough that I have a short now.

I also need to notch one drivers side front bumper bracket so it will clear the redhead steering gear. The plan is this. Notch the bumper bracket and adjust the bumper, install inner fenders, tighten down/adjust drivers side fender, install new under hood wiring harness, and lat but not least put in the new tac/vac lens (once its here) and install the dash. I think taking a day off may be needed for this :)

Once all that is done then I get out the timing light and get it all timed up. Then it will be bleed the brakes and install new master cylinder.

11-13-2007, 11:02 PM
