View Full Version : 68 build thread. It has begun :) skokie 11-15-2007, 11:01 PM Ok heading out to do the drivers side inner fender now. Pics later to come. skokie 11-16-2007, 12:00 AM I didnt get it done tonight. I have it mounted to the front and I ran out of time. Will have it finished tomorrow. jeffnohio 11-16-2007, 05:08 AM looking good skokie 11-16-2007, 08:15 PM looking good Thanks but that drivers side inner fender is really pissing me off!! :banghead: BigSky71 11-17-2007, 01:28 PM My aftermarket inners didn't fit very well, had to enlarge and re-drill several holes. Especially the PS one that mated to an aftermarket fender, total pita. skokie 11-19-2007, 12:22 AM Well I took another step backward today. The tilt column that I had bought had a bad turn signal switch in it. I took it out but I broke the hazard switch on the new one going in. Kinda figures. Crappy week. I have not put the drivers side inner fender on yet. Will be doing that tomorrow. Ordered a new turn signal switch which will be here next week. mmaske147 12-08-2007, 08:02 AM Wow you've really come a long ways in such a little bit of time, great job and the paint is badass good thing your guy can match it up again. skokie 12-21-2007, 05:23 PM UPDATE: It has been a while. Work has been keeping me busy. I got the turn signal switch installed into the column. According to the guy at the shop the collar has to come off due to the fact that they replacement switches use a little thicker plastic. Not much just a little too much so that you cant get it in there without breaking the hazard switch :) skokie 01-11-2008, 05:07 PM Update again. Looks like either I got another bad switch or the guy messed up when installing it. The left brake light does not work. I tried with the original column I have with its switch and everything works fine. Time to make a phone call :( skokie 01-15-2008, 12:26 PM Made some more minor progress today. I got the drivers side inner fender bolted up. Next step is to get the column installed once I get the new turn signal switch in. I have one on order which should be here by Wednesday of next week. skokie 01-23-2008, 10:17 AM Its time to update this thread. Still waiting on my turn signal switch to show up. Supposed to be here tonight. Looks like there was either a major run on them. I did get the truck started and it runs pretty good. I also got the new heater controls installed as well and the heater blows HOT!!!!. But as usual with this thread its 1 step forward and 2 steps back. My brake booster croaked on me. Looks like the rod on the inside snapped. Not sure how it happened but oh well. Getting a new powder coated black one on saturday. Thats the latest. skokie 01-24-2008, 02:42 PM UPDATE:Ok I finally got the turn signal switch and have it installed. IT WORKS :) All of my blinkers blink headlights work etc. Now its time to bolt the column in and install the new steering wheel. skokie 01-25-2008, 02:43 PM I made some progress tonight even though it rained on me some. I started the truck and got the heater going. I also cleaned up the neutral safety switch (had paint on it wonder who did that :) and installed it onto the column. I put the column inside the truck. It is not hooked up to the intermediate shaft yet but will be this weekend. I also managed to get the heat stove and pipe hooked up as well. I had to take out the dipstick tube to do it and dent the crap out of it in the process but I did it. Truck is running smooth once it gets going. I need a new booster though. Looks like mine is bad. Got one on order from a local shop. For another 30$ he said it will take it all apart and powder coat it for me. I pick that up on Saturday. Other than that I am waiting for my leds to come in so I can finish my dash. My new tach/vac lens came in 2 weeks ago and its just sitting there along with more parts saying hey come on now put us on the truck. Thats it for now. I will snap some pics tomorrow night if weather permits. skokie 01-26-2008, 01:45 PM Since it was raining tonight I was not able to get pics however I was able to get out there long enough to remove my booster and my dash. My leds came in today. :metal: :D So I am working on that now. Pics tomorrow if it clears. skokie 01-27-2008, 02:20 PM I had some time tonight to install the leds into my dash. Just did the guage lights. Pics are not that great but here goes. I was going to get pics of the truck but is raining pretty good here. Tach http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Dash/Tach.jpg FuelGuage http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Dash/FuelGuage.jpg Whole Dash http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Dash/Dash.jpg skokie 01-27-2008, 02:21 PM The bottom part of the dash does not look it but they are very well lit up. skokie 02-01-2008, 11:49 AM I got the hole seal for the column installed tonight. Time to put a tilt column in :) Pics later. skokie 02-01-2008, 02:18 PM Here are a couple of pics that I snapped off at the end. If I have the time I will install my wheel tomorrow and hook the e brake back up. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/TiltColumn1.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/TiltColumn.jpg skokie 02-10-2008, 07:02 AM Ok here is the latest. Just need to put the screws in the dash to secure it and a few other small things and I am done with the inside. I need to buy the chrome strips for the grill as well. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/TruckPics220813.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/TruckPics22081.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/TruckPics2208.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/TruckPics220811.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/TruckPics220819.jpg skokie 02-11-2008, 10:24 AM Ok at long last it is drivable. I started it up and drove it down the street a bit and parked it. It ran good but a little rough which could be because it has been sitting for a year. I have a load to take to the dump so tomorrow I will be doing that. Its about a 20 min run each way down the freeway so that should blow out any junk that is built up. skokie 02-11-2008, 12:05 PM Here are the latest pics from tonight. Need to install the headlight trim rings and maybe I will adjust the headlights to. Pass Side http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Passside-1.jpg Front http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Front2.jpg Drivers Side (Man I gotta get this truck painted) :) http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Driverssidefender.jpg Engine http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Engine2.jpg skokie 02-14-2008, 02:27 PM Ok here is the latest. I have replaced the intermediate tail light harness and now the reverse lights work. Now I am battling with the grant steering wheel to get the horn to stop staying on all the time draining my battery. Truck is running but I have not had the time to drive it anywhere yet. With any luck it will be going for a spin this weekend. lumpy81 02-14-2008, 02:31 PM Are the leds in the dash a kit or did you wire them up? MrBeast 02-14-2008, 04:54 PM Here are the latest pics from tonight. Need to install the headlight trim rings and maybe I will adjust the headlights to. Pass Side http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Passside-1.jpg Front http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Front2.jpg Drivers Side (Man I gotta get this truck painted) :) http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Driverssidefender.jpg Engine http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Engine2.jpg It says EVROLE on the front, is that french? :P skokie 02-16-2008, 12:26 PM No Its got a messed C and its missing its T LOL. Maybe later this year the passenger fender and hood are going in for a paint job and that will be fixed HHAAHH skokie 02-16-2008, 12:33 PM Ok its update time. Got a mysterious vibration with the truck in part and revving from 1100-1700. Got a thread on that one with the details. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=278364 I got the horn fixed I think. I will check it tomorrow and see if its behaving or not. Had to put a new horn kit in it. Heater controls are next. I need to get a LED bulb for the heater controls light and after that its going to be take it on a test drive around the block to make sure all is well. If all goes to plan then its going on a 10 min drive onto the freeway 2 exits down and back. If that works out well then its time to make a dump run. My wife has been tossing stuff in the back for a dump run while its been sitting in the driveway. Guess that shows shes confident it will be able to resume it duties as the dump truck. ;) :metal: skokie 02-18-2008, 09:21 AM I put the headlight bezels on tonight, screwed in the instrument panel and took a look through the inside to make sure I did not miss anything. skokie 02-22-2008, 11:47 AM I was working on the heater controls and I broke a cable. I need to call and order one tomorrow. Here is how its sitting now. Its ready for the maiden voyage I just need to get the heater working :) http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/HeaterControls22009.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/skokie23/Rebuild/Steeringanddash22009.jpg skokie 02-29-2008, 09:38 AM Its been a while since I updated this so here goes. I had a issue with what I thought was wire melting which turned out to be the paint/coatings burning off of the engine/exhaust manifold. I had let the truck sit and idle but never got it up to 1000-1500 rpm. Now that has been taken care of and I am hoping to get it out on the road for a 15-20 mile round trip run. All I have left to put back on the truck is the splash guard that goes under the grill and I need to order up the chrome strips that go around the grill as well as the clips that hold them in. Other than that I have a cable to replace for the heater fan and a few more small things. Thats it for now. More later. skokie 03-03-2008, 06:31 AM The grill splash guard is back on as well as the bumper. I need to figure out how I am going to notch the bracket for the drivers side front bumper bracket. I am waiting on new heater cables to come in so I can replace those as well. awhite4557 03-03-2008, 07:26 AM Lookin good Skokie, keep up the good work. I am trying to install power windows in mine from SPW. This should be fun. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=277191 skokie 03-14-2008, 10:03 AM All in all I think its very close to being done. Just got some small things that I need to prder like the grill chrome, new tail light lenses with gaskets, new heater cables, (one broke off as I was putting the new heater controls on figures) and fix the dang horn. Hard to believe its been 14 months since I started this but I would do it all over again. Now I just gotta spend some time on the 327 that I picked up for it :) |
