cstm68 01-15-2007, 08:31 PM well when i bought it it had the chrome trim but not on it and was gold under the primer with the ivory bench seat. but did they make 50th shortbeds?

cstm68 02-11-2007, 09:30 PM does anyone know how far the top of the ridges of the bed floor is off the frame
49studebaker 02-12-2007, 03:52 PM Same question I had yesterday while mounting my new fuel cell. Due to the fact my bed is laying out in the snow and rain with 400 pounds of crap in it, I never did come to a conclusion. Seems like the cross sills are about 2 1/2 inches tall.
cstm68 03-07-2007, 10:28 PM here are some update pics
ive done a little sanding on the bed
welded up the rear trim holes
bought a cowl hood
and about the hole for the gas filler, well i guess thats why they say meashure twice cut once.
let me know what you think
cstm68 03-08-2007, 12:34 AM what is the best way to strip the paint in the bed ??
cabinetguy 03-08-2007, 02:24 AM ovencleaner works, one coat at a time
FRENCHBLUE72 03-25-2007, 12:26 AM Looks like you have a nice ride comming together..
cstm68 03-26-2007, 11:12 PM anyone got ideas on how low i should go ???
IvelDesigns 03-26-2007, 11:14 PM go as low as you want. personally, i like to see them lay frame when parked, with a 5 inch ride height.
RACINJASON22 03-26-2007, 11:37 PM Looks GR8 so far! You said about your high school shop how old ar ya. The reason I was wondering is that my 14 year old nephew is building a 68 short fleet as you may have read in some of my posts/threads about his truck. I wanted to let him know, to give him some insparation for his build. I think it's awesome that you young guys are into these old trucks and also show some very fine skills to say the least. Nice job keep up the GR8 work and keep us posted like you have been I'll be watching for sure. RJ22
BTW make it as low as you want but I think your truck would really turn some heads with a young guy driving it being as low as alot of these import tuner machines. I would be sure to park right beside them and watch em' get pi$$ed off when no one pays attention to their car. lol

72CSTC5 03-27-2007, 12:17 AM sandblast the inside of the bed. You can take the bed apart and take it to the blasters in pieces.
tavenner13 03-27-2007, 12:36 AM i love the console, man! nothing like using your own taste! that cowl looks sweet, too... cant wait to order mine.

aka i dont have to wait my turn for the welders at school anymore
its confirmed that it IS a 50th!! but ive already done too much customizing to want to restore it to original. but i did save all the ivory interior and the trim (whitch is in great shape)!!!
WinDancer 04-11-2007, 02:26 AM This is fun to watch! If the first pic is before and the fourth pick is after you did a GREAT job under the hood. The paint under mine is drying- same deal, sand like crazy and then semi-gloss black.

Keep up with the pics please!
Good on ya!

cstm68 04-14-2007, 01:11 AM about how many hours (booth time) does it take to paint just the outside of one of thease trucks just to spray the base and clear not including time to spry primer.

then i got the grinder out and finished up the welds along the back end whare the trim once was
also got alitle more filler work done
hopefuly will have it primed in a couple weeks and ready to guide coat and block out !!
WinDancer 04-16-2007, 11:54 PM Lookin good!
cstm68 04-22-2007, 11:45 PM took the bed off AGAIN to re weld for my gas filler.
we used a beam in the garage and a come-all to hoist the front of the bad then jack stands for the back and drove the truck out from under it. workred good !!
cstm68 04-25-2007, 01:07 AM got a little done today. got my cupholders in and cleaned up the welds on my center console, got my tach back and instaled from summit that i had sent back cuz it wasnt working, fixed the bowing in my bedsides so the tailgate to bedside gaps are straight.
also got some primer and supplys from wesco autobody
cstm68 05-04-2007, 11:34 PM got my roof sanded down along with most of the interior.
also started bodywork on my center console and fiberglassed the seam where i welded the 2 together.
i will also be pulling the windsheild out this weekend and repairing the little bit of rust around it and getting the rest of the truck ready for primer !!!!!

grebus1 06-06-2007, 05:55 PM Looking great, you've made a lot of progress in a short amount of time. I live in Shoreline also--grew up in Lake Forest Park, and went to Shorecrest High. I had a great time in auto shop, but didn't learn half the skills that you have!
