View Full Version : Early Bird Swap Meet
chevguy7 01-15-2007, 03:03 PM Have any of you guys ever gone to the Early Bird Swap Meet in Puyallup? I think it is February 17 and 18 this year. There are a few parts I need to buy and was wondering what kind of deals they have there if any for our trucks.
69lnghrn 01-15-2007, 03:20 PM im from southern ca but i am plannig a trip to seattle in a couple months to visit family. rwgregory told me that when he was up there he found two part place heavens in olmpia. franks pickumups & classicheartbeat.
do you already know of these places ? if so , can you tell me a lil about them ? how far is olmpia from kirkland? thanks
chevguy7 01-15-2007, 03:25 PM That is probably about an hour and a half drive if you run into a little bit of traffic. You could probably do it in and hour and fifteen without traffic.
stllookn 01-15-2007, 08:04 PM Earlybird is a good swap meet. Lots of parts and some very decent prices. We are trying to arrange a meeting of some NW board members there.
chevguy7 01-15-2007, 08:20 PM I would definately try and make it to that. I might have to work on the Saturday and if I do I will go down on Sunday. I would much rather prefer to buy parts when I can actually see them instead of buying them online.
Billla 01-15-2007, 11:35 PM Is there a venue nearby that we could get together at? Do they serve food at the show? Do you have a link? Am I asking enough questions? Do I sound like a 3-year-old?
:)
Bad71chev406sbc 01-16-2007, 02:30 AM Nah...I havn't been....but i'll look into it. Have you been to the Portland Expo Center's HUGE swap meet??? I believe it's the first week in april. I'm going for the first time this year. Can't wait.
stllookn 01-17-2007, 02:14 AM They serve food at the swap meet but I don't recall any restaurants inside the fairgrounds. One year we used a meeting room at the fairgrounds to hold a NW Members meeting. It got a little too formal for my tastes once we started forming committees and writing by-laws. For the time being it is best to just keep it all informal and let it develop. Just my 0.02.
gr8scott51 01-17-2007, 10:43 AM The fairgrounds in Puyallup is a good venue for a swap meet or car show. They have a website with a calendar of events listing all of the swapmeets and shows for the year. Just google it. There are normally quite a few people there selling their wares (junk and treasures). Some new parts vendors, too. Wes (Classic Heartbeat) may even have his trailer there for the swapmeet. Frank (Frankspickmups) may be wandering the stalls. Both are nice guys, very helpful, very knowledgeable.
Yes we did try to form a Northwest club. It got a little formal, but that is what is required if you want to be recognized as a legitimate car club.
Come back to Puyallup in July for the Goodguys Northwest Nationals hosted for the 20th year by a real car club - The Oldtimers of Bremerton. The value of being a formal club is the opportunity to become involved with things like this.
The huge swapmeet in Portland is always the first weekend of April. It fills the 7 (I think) buildings of the expo center as well as alll of the parking lots. Book your room well in advance (you may be too late now) and plan on spending more than one day to see it all.

I'm DEFINITELY not suggesting ANYTHING formal with these get-together things. The board is the club, this is just a bunch of guys getting together that know each other FROM the board.
Only suggestion is to pick a PLACE and TIME for getting together at the meet for lunch or something.
Not sure I can make this one; picking up a used '69 'Vette frame to get my other project back on track :)
Bob Moore 01-20-2007, 12:21 AM Billla - The Corvette and High Performance swap meet at Puyallup sounds just right for you. Just about everything for Vettes and some truck junk thrown in also. Feb 10 & 11.
stllookn 01-20-2007, 04:53 AM Let's try to arrange something for the Corvette and HP swap meet as a starter. Afternoon meeting inside at the Blue Gate (East Side) is convenient. We could also do something outside...tailgate party (weather permitting) in the parking lot. If someone could get there early and park in the Southwest corner of the parking lot (or Northwest) it would be easily visible from the Blue Gate.

Billla 01-30-2007, 09:05 AM Bad71chev406sbc, that is the coolest avatar ever :) Do you have a bigger version, and did someone online make it for you?
Guys, I'll get all of these on the calendar - let's make the Corvette meet a "for sure" think - Mike, I can bring a BBQ and park where you say and bring a cooler of dogs, burgers, etc. Key question is WHAT TIME?
Billla 01-30-2007, 09:26 AM Thanks everyone for the additional events - do we want to seperate a NW events calendar from a get-together calendar? For another group I'm a part of we build one big list...but highlight the ones where there's "a plan" to get together (tailgate, etc.).
I've updated the post for the Feb event, and I think picking the Goodguys for the July event is a good deal - I likely can't make the XXX Root Beer thing anyway...but I really wanted to support them. We'll pick another date there.
Kinda struggling a bit with out southern and eastern neighbors and how to get them included here - suggestions?
Ill be at the Corvette Swap meet but will be out of town for the Early bird. I have found good stuff at both in the past. You never know what you might find or not find at a swap meet.
409biscayne 01-30-2007, 08:48 PM Does the Goodguys event in July have Friday nite drags ? I might bring the 68 over if i could race it , ( i sure can't show it ) don't they usually race ?
Later ....................................... 409:)
Livrat 01-30-2007, 10:49 PM Yes the Goodguys race at Pacific Raceways on Friday night.. It is usually a good event..
69RAT 02-14-2007, 09:05 PM Anything been decided on a get together for the earlybird meet? Talked to Wes, he said he wasn't getting a booth this year. Would like to meet some of the "west siders" lol.
chevguy7 02-15-2007, 12:05 AM I am thinking about going on Sunday to the swap meet. I work on Saturday and will probably get off work around 2 so I don't think I will be able to make it then. I am hoping that if I do make it down there that I will be able to find some good deals.
leftcoast66 02-15-2007, 02:09 AM Still debating goin to the earlybird meet saturday. If anyone else is going, lemme know...We'll see though if I feel like driving that day.
