Well the shop 'boom box' finally died today so instead of getting a new one and listening to more FM radio which I HATE, i'm thinking Sirius radio.

The questions:

I want to be able to hook it up to 4 speakers that are mounted throughout the shop on the ceiling- can this be done?

I want to be able to remove the Sirius receiver and take it with me in my car on a trip if i want. - can this be done?

Its a steel building and the FM reception is poor - Will the reception be any better and can the antenna be mounted on the outside of the building?

I have Sirius at home and like it but its definately not because of Howard, i hate that crap.

Based on what i asked, what is the system i need to do it all??? I want it to be strong enough to be heard throughout 12,000 sq ft over the 4 already installed speakers

I have a Sirius "Sportster" in my truck, and got a Sportster home dock for Christmas in my shop. It plugs into my shop stereo, and has it's own antenna that I mounted to the roof of the shop. With 2 docks, I move it back and forth from the truck to the shop easily. well the antenna is mounted outside anyways and if you get the car mounting system then you can put it in your car if the speakers are hooked up to a stereo then you can use them if not you'll only have the boombox if get it and theres a reciever for inside to transmit to a stereo

You say it plugs into your home stereo... since the whole thing is caput, are you saying i need to buy another stereo and hook it into that>? and if so, where does it plug into the stereo? whats the connection?

Yes, mine has to have a FM radio to use it. Just tune the radio to 88.1? I think, and turn on you Sirius. It plugs in with audio/video type jacks, but if I'm not mistaken, can also transmit through a small antenna on the back of the home dock.

I have had sirius in my car and at work for about 1 1/2 years. It is great. The main receiving unit is about the size of a wallet. You can move it to any sirius docking system. I believe they have a bigger unit than the boombox, that you can get for your shop. I just use a boombox in my 7200 ft warehouse and it's plenty. Check sirius dot com for the bigger units available. I got it for the wifes car too. I couldn't live without it. It's great.

interesting. ok so i'll have to get another stereo, i'll find something cheap on ebay, then hook it into the red/white a/v jacks in the back and oilla... sirius radio throughout the shop without commercial. oh boy will they all love that, i hope. now can you bring the head unit with you inot your car?

Don't do it through a FM tuner. Sounds like crap. Get a sirius tuner that will dock the receiver and has jacks for your existing speakers. True digital sound is awesome. Going thruogh FM is bad

You mean their 'boombox' which 'boombox' is the best? So it has external speaker jacks too?

I have this one. It has about a 20' antenna. I don't think there are any speaker jacks in the back. I will look tomorrow.

And its plenty loud and sounds real clear? I guess i dont need it to have multi speakers if its powerful enough. and you can take the head unit with you and play in your car too>?

One good thing about having speakers thoughout the warehouse is you get equal sound (pretty much) throughout the warehouse. With the boombox, its real load at the box, but in the opposite end of the warehouse, who knows what you'll have. If you have time tomorrow, call sirius and see what they have for your existing set-up and for your vehicle also. I'm pretty much the only person in the warehouse and I just turn it up or down depending on what area I'm working in.
