View Full Version : Dixie Chick
LooseScrews 01-17-2007, 03:12 PM Hi all! :new: New gal from central Alabama. We have a '67 K10 that we'll start fixin' up as soon as the El Camino gets sold and out of the garage. My 13 yo son wanted to fix up the 'mino, then changed his mind 'cuz he wanted "something old" to fix up. After he regained consciousness (I was born in '67) we decided it'd be better to restore the k10 since it's been in the family for over 23 years (My dad paid a buck for it....cool story). He's always known how the truck saved his life. He figures that'll be a good story to "pick up chicks" when the time comes. God love him....I need a drink!! :hm:

LooseScrews 01-18-2007, 08:25 AM Thanks guys! I'll get pics posted either this evening or tomorrow. She's a SWB Stepside w/ a 292...all original. It's really not much to look at, but I have a vision!! ;) She's got a lot of surface rust on her and some rot....she sat in a pasture for years. One day my dad gets a call from his buddy to bring a trailer and come get this truck out of his pasture. Dad said he'd pay him for it, but buddy wouldn't take anything...just wanted it gone. Dad kept insisting that he'd pay him and the buddy said, "Give me a dollar and it's a done deal." My dad took a battery out to the pasture, swapped it out, cranked her up and drove it off the property. The buddy was in shock....stood there with his jaw around his knees. Dad gave him a buck and asked if that was all he wanted for it and the buddy told him yep. Drove the truck home and we used it as a "dump" truck. Going to the dump, taking trash out, etc.
My dad gave it to my hubby when parents moved to NC 16 yrs ago. Boy did we have fun gettin' stuck and unstuck at Hammermill. hmmmm...maybe THAT'S how son got here. Nah! It just saved his life. Back in the spring of '93, Alabama (well...the whole SE) had an ice storm. I was 7 months pregnant w/ the son and hubby wouldn't let me even walk out on the deck for fear I'd slip and fall. After 3 days of no 'lectricity, I told hubby if he didn't get me out of the house, I'd kill him, the dog, the cat, me, and anything else that was breathing nearby. He was shocked!! He dug the K10 out (I call her the green goblin) and started her up and off we went. I bet we rode 100 miles that day and I enjoyed every second of it. So that's how the truck saved the son's life (and everyone withing reaching distance).
faribran 01-18-2007, 09:20 AM welcome from SOUTH Alabama
what year is the el camino?
LooseScrews 01-18-2007, 09:37 AM '87. She's all original, too. 305, luxury seats (wish I had them in my Jeep  ) The interior needs nothing done to it...maybe the carpet cleaned. The body is straight. Had a bump in the rear rh fender and front fh fender. Motor is original and runs great. It hadn't been cranked in over 4 months, and she started right up on Sunday when I pulled it out of the shop to take pictures of her. Clear coat is flaking off the hood and roof a little...that was pretty common on mid 80's GM products. No rust. I love it...wish he'd work on it, but he's in love with the K10. He thinks it'll be cool to have a '67 truck pulling his '66 Boston Whaler. I told him he could prolly put that Boston Whaler in the bed of his truck and not even trailer it.
Faribran, what part of South Alabama? We have a small place in Fort Morgan, and are down there almost every other weekend.
Joe67 01-18-2007, 10:09 AM Welcome from Michigan :D
faribran 01-18-2007, 12:05 PM dixie,
i am on the east side of the state from Ft Morgan....
close to Dothan, AL.
u should post a pic of the el camino.
LooseScrews 01-18-2007, 12:46 PM I'll prolly be listing her on flea-bay this evening. I have better pics on my camera, but didn't have my cables with me at work to download them. I'll also give the guys/gals on the El Camino site first dibs if they are interested. They are all as nice as the folks here. I just hope they don't dog me too bad about selling the 'mino. It's the son's decision...not mine! :)
Dothan is a beautiful area. We used to have family in that area. Now we just keep the interstates hot between Ft. Morgan and just south of B'ham. Hubby and son LOVE to fish, so I'm hoping they'll find time between fishin' trips to work on the K10.
