Ive just about had it with the CDRW drive that came in my HP!
It's very picky on which CDs it wants to read even fresh out of the box some of the lighter CDs wont read but put one of the older scratched up ones in and it's fine.

Is there any CDROM drives out there that arent as picky? It doesent need to be anything special it just needs to read some of these cheaper cds. Yes the CDs do have info on them and sometimes they will read. NFSMW and Battle Front are two games that sometimes work but most of the time dont!

It's almost impossible to find CDRW drives anymore, you gotta get a DVD burner anymore :D (99% of them Burn both CDs and DVDs)

I personally prever NEC brand burners, and so do a lot of the guys I hang out with (online) that are into burning movies (by the hundreds), so they can handle great abuse and are time/load testing IMO.

The top two on that page should suffice if you're using a Desktop. If you're using a laptop (you never specified), you'll need something else.

$30 + shipping. Good deal on a new drive. You will likely NOT find anything of the same quality at the same price locally. NewEgg is one of those stores that any computer geek worth his weight in beans will swear by. I almost exclusivelly buy through them for personal items.

Plextor or NEC is what I prefer. I have never had a Plextor fail or goof up on me. I can only remember one or two NECs that gave me trouble. I can't say the rest for other brands.

I just put in an LG h22n that I got from NewEgg (it was suggested to me by someone on another (tech) board I visit. Caught it on sale 2 weeks ago, and it was here in 3 days. It works perfectly, and is so quiet I wasn't sure if it was working or not, LOL!

Anyway, I agree totally with Shifty about NewEgg. Hard to beat their combo of price and service.

I'll give newegg a shot and see what they have to offer.

Thanks!

Well I figured I'd give a quick update. I did remember I had an old 22X cd drive sitting at the shop collecting dust. I slapped this in the expansion bay and she reads like a dream! Sure is nice to pop a cd in and have it read the 1st time.

Old spares are always good. My computer and my truck are a lot alike....some new parts and some not so new stuff

Glad you are up and running again.
