I have a 89 shortbed silverado and the guages stick sometimes, give errant readings and such. I have no faith they are correct until I go about 10 miles or so and everything defaults back to where I remember them being since the last trip. Can the 92 model swept style guages work in the 89 circle/white dial guages that came in my truck? What has everyone else done to improve their guages?

Sounds like a ground fault. If it was only one or two gauges, I'd say it was a sender. But with all of them going flaky, there's only one thing in common - the ground wire.

I've got a 90 Silverado sitting in my drive, but it's dark out right now. If you need me to go find which wire is the ground, let me know. I can do it in daylight.

Thanks Mickey, the reason I don't think it is the ground wire is that the gauges will recover if driven for about 10 minutes to normal readings.
