Hello,
Just joined up, as this looks like a good place for information and tips for a project I just picked up for my son.
My 59 ElCamino is nearly finished (just a couple of things to do, but am driving on a regular basis) My 66 Elky has yet to be started (all original & rustfree except for a 305 that installed in the place where a 327 should be), and my latest acquisition>>>>1964 Chev C-10 short/wide, 6cyl/3spd, absolutely no dents and most of the original bed floor is still in good shape. Some rust in the roof at the rain gutters, but nothing too serious, yet. I have not checked the floors yet, but they seem solid. This truck had been sitting for 10 years out in a field, and surprisingly, started right up when given a shot of ether.
Did some trading for it---as I travel quite a bit for work, and have accumulated quite a few air miles-----I traded some air miles for it. got the owner a ticket to Poland (he is a native and goes back frequently). He learned how to drive in this country in this truck, so he was pretty attatched to it. Took me 2 years to get it from him.
My son has a few years before he strats driving, so I have plenty of time to update it.
Plans are----6cyl/5spd, ps, disc brakes front, AC, tilt column. Will build a SBC for him to put in when he turns 20.
Same guy also gave me a 82 chev, I figure this will be a good donor for the brakes and also the power windows to put into my 79. The 350 in this truck should provide a good base for the 66 Elky which will also get a 5spd
