Where does a guy get a good price on a fuel pump. The local parts store wants $557.00 for the pump and sending unit.
My pump has got about twice as loud as it use to be, and I'm scared she's going to blow somewhere where there isn't one available.
Can I add a fuel system lube or does it sound like death. :help:

they are known for being loud! That is way overpriced though. 200-250 is the norm. I got mine from gm for around 240 IIRC. I would say go with the gm part if you can.

That was a AC Delco pump for 557.00 I guess I will check around.
Thanks

They are loud.
Mine sounds like a Husquavarna chainsaw running insde my tank. That's the way they are.
The fella's at P&G Chevrolet in Slovan PA always give me a great price on parts. I order everything from them. Do a google search and call them up on their toll free number (they have a website but it doesn't work very well) and be sure to tell them you want a discount!

Don't be surprised when the new one is loud also.

I'm glad I have a 95 model. I can get a fuel pump for $85 from the dealer.

I replaced mine in the wife's 97 Suburban (Original) last June with one from CarQuest and it cost me about $85 with lifetime warranty. I checked with the dealer and the Delco pump was $154. That's how I found out I didn't have to replace the whole assembly including the sending unit. I could have bought the whole assembly from GM for $540. My old one was weak and was causing it not to start someimes due to the pressure being about 2 LBs. low. It's been seven months now and it's never failed to start right up. The new one is definately louder than the one I took out.

Forgot to mention that you can buy just the pump for a lot cheaper, if you can find a pats man that is not an a$$.
Mine was a complete delco unit, but I got it through a autoshop at their cost. I would NOT buy a cheapie pump for this application if I could help it.
Your loud pump might last for years like it is though.

I agree it may last for years, but after hearing stories from three of my co-workers with 96-97 Chevy's, and their pumps failing(all within a few months), I decided to replace mine in my 95 GMC. I figured better to do it in the garage with friends(removed the bed) rather than have it fail on the highway in the middle of no-where. The 96-97's all had around 70,000-90,000 miles on them and the replacement pumps were around $300 from GM. My 95 TBI has 200,000 miles and the pump was only about $100, I figured it was cheap insurance.

The late 90s GMC Jimmys/sonomas (the whole s-series line) fuel pump seems to commonly fail at around 170,000-180,000 miles. Or so says my neighbor whos done 5 of them last year, all with in that range.
