Your worse then me, atleast I live in the same state as my projects:lol: Have you figured out a way to invent spare time yet!! Kevin LFD Inc. No, really...........:D. I've been watching that one commercial with all the little clones running around...............:uhmk:. Hart_Rod 02-07-2008, 05:47 AM Looking GREAT!!!!! Thanks. That chassis you're putting together is pretty sweet. Definitely something to be proud of when its done. Hart_Rod 02-07-2008, 05:49 AM ...any updates You just had to rub it in......Actually, I finished it. . . . . . . about 3 times . . . . . . . in my head..... franky69c10 02-07-2008, 06:35 AM lookin good http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r21/frankyazm/THUMBUP.gif Hart_Rod 02-17-2008, 10:11 AM lookin good http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r21/frankyazm/THUMBUP.gif Thanks! Picked up a power brake pedal setup from UNCLE. Yeah, yeah I know that's a pretty weak thread update, but that's all I got right now, :D, shifty 02-17-2008, 10:17 AM you know, i saw this in an article of Truck Builder mag recently - is the hole for power brakes in a diff't position than non-power? They had to re-drill the pedal when moving to a bolt-in brake system from SSBC. Hart_Rod 02-17-2008, 10:21 AM you know, i saw this in an article of Truck Builder mag recently - is the hole for power brakes in a diff't position than non-power? They had to re-drill the pedal when moving to a bolt-in brake system from SSBC. If you have a power drum setup and convert to a power disc, you have to redrill the hole in the pedal. If you have manual brakes, I think you have to change the pedal bracket and brace on the inside. At least that's what it's been told. bad68bowtie 02-17-2008, 10:48 AM Soooo that's why there's a different/ghetto rigged brake pedal in my truck. Explains everything. Now if I could figure out the reasoning behind all the other boneheaded modifications the PO did to my truck... The beast is looking good, a little progress is better than no progress at all. caminokid 02-17-2008, 07:48 PM Here is my crazy idea for a truck like that. adding a Longhorn bed, Dually rear end and cutting a set of stepside fenders for the bed flares. Then add a big block and a 5 speed. Talk about long! You're putting the mud tires and diamond plate step bumper on finally? This is gonna be badass!  When I got the Crewcab it had one of those bumpers on it. I gave it to to HOTRODMTODD when he picked up the old chassis. I bet that thing weighed a hundred pounds! I guess I could have advertised it as a 2" drop bumper, :D. toomanytoyz 03-15-2008, 07:26 AM Picked up the most elusive part of this build...............:D So you are Going with a Fleet bed Now? When did you change Your Mind from Using a Stepper Bed? The Photo shops you had as a Stepper concept were Kool............. Do u Remember the length of each part of frame sections you used when making your new Frame? Thanks, Rick Hart_Rod 03-16-2008, 07:23 PM So you are Going with a Fleet bed Now? When did you change Your Mind from Using a Stepper Bed? The Photo shops you had as a Stepper concept were Kool............. Do u Remember the length of each part of frame sections you used when making your new Frame? Thanks, Rick The other bed would be cool, but time is a factor so I'm just gonig to buy a SWB and put on it. As far as the dimensions for the frame, the cab was stretched 33", so when I mated the 2 chassis I just added and extra 33" in between the centerline of the cab mounts. I think the distance between the front and rear cab mounts ended up around 75 1/2 inches total. Do you have a suprise in the works?! :D If you have anymore questions, PM and I'll send you my phone number. Hart_Rod 03-22-2008, 09:09 PM Teaser pics of the Doug Thorley headers, :D. Hopefully the plug wire issue will be fixed. Dunno what the prices will be (PM Jamie), but they will be well worth the cost....:D. nice headers! so much better looking than ceramic. Actually they will be ceramic or chromed. These are bare steel that has been polished. gringoloco 03-24-2008, 03:22 AM How close are they to the firewall? It's on the backburner until I get the suburban done. I am trying to pick up a few parts here there, but that's about it. Did you ever get your diesel? I still have the 3/4T chassis and bed if you're still interested. MrBeast 05-20-2008, 06:43 AM Sounds like a good plan.......stay focused and stick with it, :D. Thanks for the props on the CrewCab. I still have the 3/4T chassis and bed if you're still interested. The most I have managed to do here is get a new set of mirrors on the truck, I did get my new welding machine bought though, so as soon as I can get setup with it and get everything running I am going to have more money to pump into the project. I might make it out and get that bed off you yet, I need to get the Diesel in my truck first though, we will see how long it takes here. I was noticing the suburban you have for sale too. That thing looks like a mighty fine rig. School has been a lot of work, but rewarding, I am a 60% disabled vet so Uncle is picking up the bill for the first 4 years, so I am sucking down all I can. Pretty happy with it too, I am pulling straight A's. I will have to go check out your burban thread. I love the old burbans too, but I need another project right now like I need another plate in my head! lol Hart_Rod 05-31-2008, 05:16 AM Progress!!!! Well a little any way. Yep, I would say that qualifies as progress! Hart_Rod 06-04-2008, 07:01 PM Contemplating selling the Beast. I'm moving the family out to NM next month and this will end up in storage for at least a year. I haven't decided yet as I'm waiting the results of my promotion board. Depending on the outcome of that and some other factors, I may sell it to prevent it from sitting. PM me if seriously interested. R/ Number98 06-05-2008, 10:24 AM Man, Hate to hear about you selling the beast but its good news about you moving the family out. You guys will get to see each other more. Hart_Rod 06-07-2008, 08:02 PM Man, Hate to hear about you selling the beast but its good news about you moving the family out. You guys will get to see each other more. Not selling it for sure, just thinking about it. I have a ton of work and $$$ in it, but I hate the thought of letting it set for a couple of years. At least I have it to a point that nothing will deteriorate. The picture should be a little clearer in the next couple of weeks.......... rstrick 06-08-2008, 12:52 AM Rob, Are you up for an O-6 promotion? I think I read that you were a Navy squadron commander. Is that an O-5 billet in the Navy. That was the norm when I was in the Air Force. Most of the O-6s I was familiar with in the Air Force were promoted from squadron command slots. It just won't work in my head. I knew officers that had nice cars, even older ones, but none of them were gearheads of any kind. If you tell me there are others like you, I won't believe it without pictures of a bunch of grimy officers working on some greasy piece of machinery. No MM's around either. I learned never to ask anyone to do anything that I wasn't willing to do myself. I've got a few buddies that are Officers and Gearheads. They were either prior or grew up on farms. Thanks for the best wishes. I grew up on a farm in Indiana, spent 6 years enlisted and am an O-3 now... hgs_notes 06-17-2008, 02:40 PM You guys are the exceptions and the rest of the world is better for it. msgross 06-17-2008, 03:57 PM thanks, im just always trying to improve my family's lives... rstrick 06-17-2008, 04:18 PM Since I started this by asking Hart_Rod about his promotion I will have to say that a number of the gear-heads I knew in the Air Force were officers. I was enlisted and spent most of my time in a flying squadron. Our crews were three officers and two or three enlisted. It tends to give a different perspective for both officer and enlisted working in that type of environment. I've been off-topic here way too much. I am waiting to see how the project turns out. I'll never be able to build one for physical reasons so I live vicariously through seeing others make these trucks shine. danny's 72 superchey 06-23-2008, 12:54 AM Rob, i see you finally got retirement papers in. R/ I got out as an O3 Submarine Officer. I went straight from high school to NROTC and then nuclear power school and the boat. I didn't grow up on a farm, but I guess it was kinda close since my dad was an Agricultural Engineer and I spent a lot of time in the labs and shops on campus. I know plenty of gearhead officers. We had plenty of academic wool jacket types but we also had plenty of people who had no problem getting their hands dirty. I agree with you that stereotyping usually doesn't work very well... Hart_Rod 07-05-2008, 12:48 AM Well it looks like I'm keeping the Beast, :D. I'm getting it ready to go in storage so I went ahead and mounted the EFI gas tank that I got from FuelCellGuy, via BowTieOgre. Good Deal, hate to see hard work go out the door you know! It's definitely a truck that would not be easy to replace.............:D. R/ Hart_Rod 07-10-2008, 10:41 PM Well..............since I'm keeping the truck, I figured I might as well finish buying the parts I need to finish it, :). I picked up SWB project that's got nearly everthing I need: a nice 67 hood, take off tailgate, new set of tri-plus outer rockers............:D. It came with a lot of other parts that I'm not going to use and I'll list on here once I get them inventoried, but as starters: virtually rust free cab and doors (clean title), 2 rust free 68 fenders, 2 rust free 68 grilles, 2 rust free inner fenders, rust free 67/68 core support, new cab bushings, SWB chassis with 5 lug posi-rearend, 5 lug disc front end with all new components including ECE dropped spindles, 2/4 lowering springs, sway bar, 72 402 big block :), turbo 350.......... thats all I can think of right now. Here's some pictures of the tailgate and hood........ msgross 07-10-2008, 11:56 PM wow, nice parts... Are all these gonna be located in FL or NM? I would like some if they are n FL.... If you're interested in something, shoot me a PM. As far as the promotion, I didn't make it. The numbers were really bad this year, only 41 people promoted. Of those, 17 were above zone and only 24 in zone actually promoted (most of those guys had bosses with a few more stripes than me,;)). It worked out to about 29% promotion rate for the in zone guys and if you break it down further, only about an 18% promotion rate for aviators, :(. No worries, though, I'll be at 20 in a year. I guess I'll just have to take my MBA and figure out something else to do......:D. rstrick 07-11-2008, 02:10 PM Rob, Too bad about the promotion. But with the MBA and your experience you should not have a problem finding a good job. The one I finally settled on was teaching business at a community college. Pretty good gig, for me at least. I was a little bit disappointed as the type A person in me always wants to succeed, :). But I'm actually looking forward to moving on. Don't get me wrong, the Navy has been very good to me and my family. I entered boot camp as an E1 and very little direction in my life. I got to go through some of the Navy's best schools (Nuclear Power and Navy Flight School), got both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees paid for and will be retiring as a Commanding Officer. Not to bad for a poor orphan country boy from SE Oklahoma. |
