I bought this 71 SWB C-10 about a year ago for $2500. The progress is slow but it's coming along. here are a few pics of what I've done so far, this truck has a 350 GM Goodwrench motor that is about 3 or 4 years old, it has a 3 speed on the tree that I want to replace with a 400 th or 350 th. Other than the front cab floor and the rockers this truck is solid, I drove it about 30 miles to get it home and it rode as smooth as my 02 Sierra, well almost. I will post pics as I get things done althou it will be slow do to kids, wife and work. Let me know what you guys think about it so far.
this is what it looked like when I brought it home, My wife thinks it's a piece of junk, I think it was a hell of a buy.

my inner rocker was sitting too high and the outer would not fit, I had to cut out the inner and weld in another one.

I got one of the inner fenders cleaned up, I now have to turn the truck around in the garage so that I can start working on the pasanger side. I don't have a lot of room to work on both sides at once. My wife wants the Yukon in the garage too.

I used rubberized undercoating for the bottom and Por-15 for the outside. Its not perfect but It saves me $100.00, thats what a new inner costs.

Looks good!
When you get ready to swap the 3 psd for a turbo, holler at me,i may make a deal with you on all the clutch pedal & linkage setup, bellhousing etc.
Last week i had 4 turbo 350's,I'm down to 2 now,one in the truck & one rebuildable one.
What did you strip the outside of the wheelwells with?

Good deal unless the primer is hiding something. But if it is you seem to be more than capable of fixing it. Nice work.

Nice truck for $2,500. I would definitely buy it for that price. It's got a lot more interior than mine does and I paid $3,500 for mine. Maybe because mine is a stepside who know? Good job on the welds though....almost like a pro!

Your truck is coming along nicely!
word of advice from someone who has been there more than once--- keep those inner fenders with that nice shiney black por 15 out of direct sunlight. Only takes about a week for them to fade out and be flat black looking. Don't install them till you are ready to install rest of the sheet metal (IE fenders and hood)

When you cut out that much steel, is it recommended to brace the cab up first, or is it not necessary? Looking into doing this myself, hope mine turns out that good. :)

The OP, JCA1972 sez at beginning of thread, "My wife thinks it's a piece of junk...." ......he-he, my wife says the exact same thing about mine.

However, I paid $800 for my truck ten yrs ago, and it isn't HALF as nice as yours is. I'd say you got a great deal on your truck.Keep the pictures coming!

I was thinking of that same thing myself when I started cutting away, but I didn't brace anything and it held up just fine. I did do one side at a time thou.

Nice work and keep going.

the inner fender took about 1 hr, the frame I'm doing it in parts as I go and the control arms took the longest because they were really dirty I would say at least 1 hr on each but I did take breaks.

Well I have been a little busy this last week, I painted the fire wall flat black, I removed the ram horn exhaust manifolds and I installed a Chrome oil pan, oh yeah I also cleaned up the engine a little bit I stlill have a little more to do.

The pulleys look yellow but they are chevy orange, I decided to paint the edelbrock intake to make it look more stock. Can you see the diferrence in my suspension?
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/fronofengine.jpg

here are the headers I got, I will have to do a little modification to re route the pipes, I will also need a mini starter.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/header.jpg

here is a pick of the chrome oil pan, I got a great surprise when I removed the old oil pan, my engine is a 4 bolt main.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/oilpan.jpg

and here is a pick of my new tank from Mark, that won't go in for a few more weeks.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/1971%20C-10/sideofbed.jpg

I started painting the rear chasis and got the fuel tk installed.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/1971%20C-10/fueltk.jpg

I started the side marker fuel door install. this is a fuel door from a 97 S-10 cut out to fit the side marker.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/1971%20C-10/fueldoorhinge.jpg

Here is the hole that I cut on the inside of the bed for the install.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/1971%20C-10/insideofbedcutout.jpg

I had to add a 1/2"" of shimms to the door hinge and then a 1/4" shim to make up for the inside lip on the marker light cut out.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f188/JCA1972/1971%20C-10/insideofbedcutoutmarkerlight.jpg

I drilled 2 holes on the side of the bed to hold the fuel door/side marker in place for welding.

Well I was getting ready to take the truck down to the Body shop for paint, but we just hit 94 degrees here in Texas and its freaking HOT. I decided to order a vintage air system so that I can have air when its all painted up. I guess it will be a couple of weeks before I have it painted.

Well just to give an update on my truck, I changed out the window regulators and the vent window gaskets, I decided not to install the AC on the truck just yet. I took the truck down to a Body shop last week and it should be all painted up in 5 to 6 weeks, I decided to go with the Torch red, I cant wait to get it back. I'll post some pics later.
