View Full Version : My 69 Long Bed Progress Build Pictures ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:42 AM Hey all, Scott here from Abbotsford BC Canada. Wanted to share my progress pictures. Here you go. Thanks ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:42 AM That was when I first purchased the truck. ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:44 AM Here are some more... ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:47 AM At first I wanted to clean up the frame under the bed. Did that, then I wanted to start stripping paint. ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:49 AM As I got further into this project, I found bondo everywhere! This is not what I wanted. I tried to just prime over everything but that didn't work out. ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:50 AM Time for the tear down and paint stripping! ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:53 AM Here are some more... ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:56 AM Here are some random photos, as you can see The cab corners, rockers etc... need to be replaced. ilovetara 03-03-2007, 12:58 AM Hey there is my 89 chev 4x4 farm truck. Well thats about all for now. Thanks All! Scott Sillyoldman 03-03-2007, 02:18 AM I admire you for taking on a project like that. Theres nothing on it that aint bent. You're going to have something special that you can be proud of.Take lots of before and after pics. Lots of people buy ready to show stuff, but it means a lot more when your own hands do the work. bowtieride 03-03-2007, 03:17 AM looks fun, I love ripping stuff apart, sanding, grinding, cutting, and welding. just gets hard to put all the stuff back together. I always loose a few nuts and bolts! ilovetara 03-03-2007, 09:32 PM Yes it has been fun with the tear down, but seems like more and more work as I go on. Trying to decide to clean up the bondo and redo it or go to bare metal. 70cst 03-04-2007, 04:26 PM I call all this work an act of love. Looks like you have done a lot of work. It will be a truck you will be proud of when you get it done. ilovetara 03-04-2007, 08:29 PM Well I have wanted a 69 chevy since I was 16, 11 years later I found one that needed a lot of work. BUT I am glad! Thanks for the responses. ilovetara 03-06-2007, 08:56 PM More Progress... ilovetara 03-06-2007, 08:57 PM Sorry that picture is of me. Hello I'm Scott....lol jimmydean 03-06-2007, 09:06 PM Nice progress pics! AKChevyman 03-06-2007, 09:21 PM I have a question what are you using to strip the paint. ilovetara 03-06-2007, 09:37 PM Hey, I am using my angle grinder with mutiple different wire wheels. I am finding that certain wheels gouge the metal too much. Then I am taking 100 grit sandpaper to smooth everything out. All in all... 2 fenders, 1 cowl 8 hours of work. AKChevyman 03-06-2007, 11:12 PM I thought that might be your technique I tried that gave up and had the whole thing blasted. I admire your dedication. Keep up the great work and good luck muddpile 03-06-2007, 11:53 PM Looks a lot like what I started with. Progress looks great, and hopefully it will be everything you hoped when you get it back on the road. ilovetara 03-08-2007, 08:35 PM More Progress! ilovetara 03-08-2007, 08:37 PM Couple more... ilovetara 03-08-2007, 08:40 PM Next step is to strip the doors right down. Then place an order with LMC for all my cab repairs. Then to take out the old gas tank and put a new one out back. After that I will be removing my 292 and 4spd for the rebuild process. projectking 03-08-2007, 09:46 PM Looks alot like mine did when I started!! Keep up the good work!! ilovetara 03-08-2007, 10:04 PM Thanks Man, I am really beginning to respect everyones responses. ks147j111928 03-08-2007, 10:24 PM looks good so far, looks really familiar... 248955 long way from when I bought her... 248956 but it'll be worth the blood sweat and tears when she's done. Keep up the good work!:metal: ilovetara 03-09-2007, 08:37 PM Yes forsure will be. Good luck with your project. How was it to do your rockers? stllookn 03-09-2007, 08:54 PM Great project, Scott...that is a real look of determination. When I have had my sheet metal down that far, I almost want to clearcoat it and drive it...LOL! projectking 03-09-2007, 10:03 PM Great project, Scott...that is a real look of determination. When I have had my sheet metal down that far, I almost want to clearcoat it and drive it...LOL! Now thats what I'm saying! Clear and bare metal kicks A$$, too bad my truck started out too rusty. ilovetara 03-11-2007, 07:49 PM lol, I was just talking about clear coating the bare metal. I love the look, but not going to happen. ilovetara 05-08-2007, 10:17 AM Anyone know what process to use after stripping the paint off? Bondo??? ilovetara 07-20-2007, 11:22 PM Here's some more progress. Getting right down to the frame. Next will be to pull the motor and tranny, the rest of the front suspension and all of the rear suspension. Then I will be cleaning up the full frame. Oh what fun! :metal: ilovetara 07-20-2007, 11:23 PM Some more pictures... ilovetara 07-22-2007, 12:15 AM Made some more progress today. It was in rough shape. Not sure where I am going to go from here. Rebuild the i6 but convert over to auto tranny. ilovetara 07-22-2007, 08:44 PM Anyone know how easy it is to rebuilt the inline 6 motor? ilovetara 07-23-2007, 11:40 PM Some more progress tonight. Got the engine on the stand and started the tear down process. Now I have a question, Why is 1970 stamped on the side of the engine when my truck is a 69? Well here are some more pictures. ilovetara 07-23-2007, 11:41 PM And a few more.... edmonton72 07-24-2007, 12:33 AM Thats what my truck looked like two years ago, just puttin her back together now. Mine was in similar or even worse shape if I can remember. I would trying looking for parts vendors here in canada in stead of getting everything from the states. I know theres a couple here in alberta and i wouldnt be surprised if there were some in bc. ilovetara 07-24-2007, 01:09 AM Yeah I haven't tried looking for vendors in bc yet. I will be looking for a rebuilt kit for my inline6 while I am fixing up the frame. ilovetara 07-26-2007, 02:05 AM Some more engine progress. ilovetara 10-30-2007, 10:34 AM Well after cleaning up the garage, decided to measure up the frame to make sure is was straight. Well no good. The front just past the engine mounts is totally out of wack. Decided to just pickup another frame and start from there. ilovetara 12-01-2007, 09:44 AM Okay, well I picked up another long bed bare frame. This one is straight. Now time for hours of grinding and wire wheels to clean the frame up. Then etch primer, and base coat then I think silver frame paint. Going to order my front and rear suspension parts once I decide what drop I am going with. Will post pics later of the new frame Shock_Me 12-01-2007, 10:00 AM Glad you found another frame. Looking forward to seeing the silver outcome. Should look awesome. Did you decide on a company for your drop kit yet? Pete ilovetara 12-02-2007, 02:21 PM I think I am going to go with 3.5" front drop and 5" rear drop. Maybe Early Classic stuff. |
