really really bad mistake made by me on saturday

i wanted my work truck to finally be all one color so i went to the paint store (on saturday its not the usual guys working) and wanted a gallon of single stage white, pretty easy order, well after about an hour of going back and forth with the guy i walked out with what i assumed was a sprayable gallon of single stage white all i had to do was reduce and shoot. i started spraying and everything seemed fine except it seemed the paint was kicking off in the can and i cursed the old man a the paint store for adding the hardener in to the gallon can, finished sparaying, looked good (long story short)

two days later + paint still sticky = NO HARDENER!!!

spent 4 hours and 5 gallons of laquer thinner and a box of shop towels stripping gouey paint off my truck. cant believe this happened

the usual guys at the paint store gave me a new batch of paint and a pint and a half of hardener and the 5 gallons of thinner. at least they took some of the blame, but i take all the blame, should have known..... never do that again :b69:

Been there, done that. When my father and I had a small body shop, we sprayed a '68 Impala on a Saturday afternoon. This was a silver shoot. Three hours later paint was literally dripping onto the floor. I picked up the paint right before closing time at the paint store, and I figured they were in a hurry to get out of there and forgot some of the ingredients. A bunch of old cloth, 5 gallons of thinner, and a buzzing headache later that evening we had it stripped off. I learned to get paint first thing in the mornings, spray a test shoot somewhere so that if there is a problem you do not get stuck, and avoid doing something on the weekends after 12:00 if at all possible. If you have ever tore into a water line at 11:45am on a Saturday it is almost a 100% chance you will have to go to a plumbing shop to get something because Lowes or Home Depot does not carry that particular item. So you have to shut the water off until Monday morning. So at least if you do something on a Friday night, you have Saturday morning to FIX IT. LOL!!!!

Had you intended for them to add hardener at the store? I have never heard of doing that, but I guess if you go right home and shot it that would work. Sorry to hear that it wasn't right, sucks having to clean all that paint off.
