View Full Version : Anyone from Iowa Want to make some spare cash?
71SWBChevy 03-29-2007, 08:12 PM Hey guys I am currently looking at a cab on E-bay that is located in SE Iowa (not sure on town yet) anyway I was thinking about trying to get someone to deliver it, atleast to around St. Louis if not all the way to my hometown of Owensboro KY. If there is anyone who would be interested in making either trip we could discuss a price or maybe there are some truck parts I have that you really want that I could trade you for your time and gas money.
I have not won the cab yet, haven't even bid on it yet but it goes off in 2 days and I plan on putting a bid in on it soon so if anybody would be interested in a road trip for a little cash or some parts let me know what it would take, thanks!
Mods, I think this belongs here, if I should have put it somewhere else I am very sorry please move it to the proper location thanks!
crews 03-29-2007, 08:21 PM Let me know if you win it....I will pick it up for you and deliver it for a fair price... I am in Troy MO so it's not that far from me.....
71SWBChevy 03-29-2007, 08:25 PM Ok I will let you know if I get it, about what would you charge per loaded mile? Or would you prefer just a set fee? I am just curious about what it would cost me to have it delivered so I can figure that into how much I want to bid on the cab. Owensboro is about 4 hours outside of St. Louis if your wanting to bring it all the way you can use that for reference if you need to. Just give me a ballpark figure if you can, I know it can't be to set in stone since the seller hasn't given me a town where it is located yet. Thanks a bunch and you can either post in here or just PM me.

I have family in SE iowa (i'm in des moines), and if you think it will fit in the back of a pickup, i could see about helpin' ya out.
71SWBChevy 03-30-2007, 12:39 PM I am not sure that a cab will fit in the back of a pickup, I will check with the 67-72 guys and see what they say, I know there was a truck on ebay for sale that had an extra cab in the bed so I know it would fit in the old trucks but not sure on the new trucks, I know my dad has a 99 and the bed on it seems to be narrower on the inside than my 71. I will get some more info and get back to you thanks.
LUV2XCLR8 03-30-2007, 02:13 PM It will fit sideways, door towards tailgate, if it is stripped in a full size truck (Barely)
IvelDesigns 03-30-2007, 03:18 PM it will be going in a 91 f0rd.... my father in laws, not mine. i swear!! :)
71SWBChevy 03-30-2007, 08:27 PM Ok guys can you give me a rough estimate of how much you would have to charge per loaded mile to deliver this thing to either St. Louis or Owensboro KY, about 4 hours east of St. Louis? Thanks just trying to decide how much I should bid on it.
71swb4x4 03-30-2007, 09:26 PM I hauled one in my 71 SWB fleetside.
IvelDesigns 03-30-2007, 09:31 PM where in iowa is the cab? I'd have to drive to fort madison from des moines (on a fri night), get the truck, go get the cab (on a saturday), then drive to st louis and then back to ft madison. I don't think it's realistic for me to make the drive to KY and back in a day.
i have no idea what is a reasonable thing to charge for doing this. why don't you make an offer and we'll go from there.
the only parts that i'm in need of right now are 68 inner and outer fenders and rad support. i am also looking for some good bucket seats (out of something new like a yukon or something like that), but i have not decided on any particular thing.
crews 03-31-2007, 08:09 AM Price kind of depends on several factors...but all I was looking to do on this was cover some fuel...not make my first million....;)
I just know this route very well as I run through Iowa ALOT going to Minnesota to visit a certain board member ( actually I just like his wife) JUST KIDDING CHRIS!!
Seriously, I don't know what the total would be, but I can't imagine that it would be much.
And a cab will fit in the bed of a truck, but you had better have some help getting it back out.
Anyways- If I bring it to you, it is coming on a trailer as I am old and lazy when it comes to lifting things.... I try to avoid it. :)
71SWBChevy 03-31-2007, 10:52 PM Crews where would you be willing to bring the cab? Also how far away from St. Louis are you? If you were to just get the cab I may be able to meet you at your house to pick it up if you aren't super far into MO. I just would like to keep my trip to an easy day trip if at all possible, if you were wanting to bring it farther down though that would be fine with me to. I don't really know the best way to price a trip so would you prefer a set dollar amount plus your gas costs or would you just like a loaded mile charge or something like that?
Ivel, the only things I have I could trade for your trip are a 3 speed column, 3 speed transmission, clutch pedel assembly, a set of trailing arms, or a front crossmember complete only missing the disc brake spindles. That is about all I have that I could trade that I can think of right now.
I don't really know what it would cost either one of you guys to make the trip so I was thinking about $1 a loaded mile or so. Not sure if that is to high or to low but I would think that would cover fuel costs and give you a little cash for your time. If this sounds way off base to you guys let me know. Your not going to hurt my feelings, I just want to get it here cheap but I don't want to screw anybody doing it. The cab goes off tomorrow afternoon around 3, I will know something then but I don't get off work until 11 pm and can't get online until I get back home. So I will let you guys know for sure what is going on then. Thanks for your patience through all this and if you guys ever find yourself in KY or need any help down this way shoot me a PM.
crews 04-01-2007, 08:33 PM Yeah- $1.00 a loaded mile is cool with me.... If you just want to make a trip up this way to get it, I can certainly have you meet me at the house. I am just NW of St. Louis ( about 45 min) on Hwy 61. Which runs straight up into Iowa.
I can bring it as far as you want.
Let me know-
Thanks-
Joe
71SWBChevy 04-02-2007, 10:21 AM Well guys thanks for all the offers but I didn't win the cab, but thanks for all your offers!
