View Full Version : Custom stereos, let's see 'em
Not sure if this is the right area or not. I wanted to see custom stereo installs from all the different year trucks and figured this was the best place to post.
Please post Make/Model/Year/Stereo Specs

Pyrotechnic 04-14-2007, 01:59 AM Damn that is very slick. Might have to look into those shallow mount woofers, how do they sound ?
I do like the sound of a hot small block for cruisin around town, but for those 3-4 hour trips...I need some tunes.
Wow, that head unit really matches well in that dash. I too, was interested in those shallow mount Pioneers. Was gonna order one next week. What do you think of them, and how big is the box you have?
JoetheMobster 04-14-2007, 11:42 AM who needs a radio when you got a small block :ito:
I like your thinking!:metal:
When I had my truck, I loved listening to the engine go...now I only have a silent V6 - so I need tunes. I'm using the stock stereo and an MP3 player with an FM transmitter...hardly worth posting pics of  It does suit my purpose though as I don't have piles of CDs hanging around the car, and I can stash the MP3 player and transmitter while I'm at work.
Nice clean install, all the way around. Good quality equipment too.
I put tunes in my 89, but its all cheap stuff. Pioneer cd player, 2 10" subs & 2 sony amps with 4 infinity speakers. Its not much but its still better than "nuttin"...
Th shallow mount woofers will pound, there's no two ways about that. The bass isn't as tight as I'd like, but take that with a grain of salt because my last system (in my MR2) had two JL Audio 6w0's which are arguably some of the best woofers around.
Rc 415 04-16-2007, 09:20 PM JL Audio 6w0's which are arguably some of the best woofers around.
Ehh I'll agree with you on the argueably part haha.
I'm big into sound quality. If a system can pound my ears out also, that's a bonus. Thw 6w0's deliver some of the sharpest bass I have ever heard.
Rc 415 04-17-2007, 02:52 PM W0's sound ok for the price, but they are the lowest line of JL Audio product, (I'm not even sure they still make them) If you are big into Sq I suggest you look into ID Max for substage.

i tried that with almost the same set up....but i could get reception,so i slamed the transmitter cable in the door jamb and drove down the road with it flapping in the breeze
72GMC2500 05-08-2007, 11:35 PM hey, acex will those 10" shallow pioneers fit under the seat? cuz i really want those but my gas tank is right behind the seat
Honestly, I can't say for sure.
They should fit under the seat without a problem, but I can't sat with 100% certainty. Best thing to do is take some measuremeants and post 'em up and then I can tell you for sure.
72GMC2500 05-09-2007, 08:23 PM ya my buddy has a 12" one like that behind the seat in his 79 chevy and there was no way we could get it under the seat without taking it out, but from what i can tell it should since there's a drop from the mat down to the metal under the seat. i might need to take out the adjuster cable. but that sub pounds insanely well for its size
boatpuller 05-11-2007, 09:16 PM here's my speakers...........pioneer premeire 6x9's in cab corners.premeire 6 1/2 's cut into the kick panels.and a panasonic deck with ipod hookup.will be getting some carpet for back of cab and corners to cover soundmat.looking to add a 12 inch sub and amp soon.
Lippyp 05-12-2007, 10:24 AM This is whats going under the seat in mine soon. RE8 8" 2 ohm sub and a dedicated Alpine mono amp. I've also a german made mac Attack 4 channel amp to power some components at some point in the future, for now I'll make do with the JBL 6x9's in the door until I find what I want. The comps will go in a door build.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/Lippyp/Truck/audio.jpg
Just a quick concern, but what's the RMS rating on that sub...?
Amp puts out 700w peak, so You can probably firgure on anywhere from 350w to 450w RMS. You might blow that sub without even trying...
Rc 415 05-22-2007, 01:41 PM RE Audio RE8 subs will take 500 watts no problemo.
An 8" sub taking 500w...?
Baseball0684 05-31-2007, 10:01 PM I used to have a few of them RE8's and in my experience in about .6-.7 cf ported each it took around 250 watts rms each to bottom them out playin music. I did burp them a couple times with little over 500rms each and they survived fine but i wouldnt run near that much daily/music listenin. There are a lot of variables (box type and size, gain on amp, etc.) that will effect it. They are good little speakers.
MonteSS454 06-01-2007, 02:10 PM I'm big into sound quality. If a system can pound my ears out also, that's a bonus. Thw 6w0's deliver some of the sharpest bass I have ever heard.
You mustn't have heard different kinds of subs then.
W0's sound ok for the price, but they are the lowest line of JL Audio product, (I'm not even sure they still make them) If you are big into Sq I suggest you look into ID Max for substage.
JL No longer makes W0s, if you want good JL subs, go for the W5-6 or if you're an audiophile go for the W7 :)
:bowtie: Monte
I'm not going to get into some pissing match about subs.
The 6w0 delivers really tight bass in a really small space. Great for sound quality, not boom.
Rc 415 06-07-2007, 03:00 PM An 8" sub taking 500w...?
Size isnt everything hah, I'm feeding each of my 10" subs an excess of 2500 watts rms each and they will take more no problem.
72 cheyenne pdx 06-07-2007, 06:54 PM Rc 415 - what Amp are you running? That's a lot of RMS power. What kind of power do you have to keep up with that Amp?
MonteSS454 06-08-2007, 12:16 AM What kind of power do you have to keep up with that Amp?
Do you mean power wire?
Because just powerwise, I have a hunch it's powered by the battery.
Rc 415 06-13-2007, 02:51 AM Rc 415 - what Amp are you running? That's a lot of RMS power. What kind of power do you have to keep up with that Amp?
I was running a Hifonics XX Goliath, but now I have on order a Rockford fosgate t40001bd. I have 3 Optima Yellow tops, and a 300 amp alt with 4/0 guage wire all around, its a pretty stout setup.

but built by a 16 year old (and his buddy)...on a 16 year old budget :metal:
sits where a center console would be, but in a bench seat truck, if you slide the seat forwards, the whole box pulls out sideways, with quick disconnects on the back, amp is under the seat.
Pyrotechnic 10-17-2007, 07:47 PM Wish I had pics of the sub setup I ran back in high school when I was 16. An old amp I got for free...6 inch sub from some computer speakers...actually sounded pretty good though. jkade 11-10-2007, 07:40 PM Talking about little subs that hit hard, back about 10 years ago I had a set of 6" subs that were in specially designed boxes and they would hit as hard as a set of 10's I had. I can't remeber the name of them but they were designed like a bose would do it with the porting of the box. You wouldn't believe the look on peoples faces when they saw what was making that bass.
69C10@16 11-13-2007, 01:52 PM The shallow mount pioneers will indeed fit uner the bench. I too have the bh t seat tank. I am in the process of making a box to go under the seat for my 12' shallows. Will post pics when its all done in a week or two.
