I am going to start painting in about a week, and am just curious as to how long you wait after you paint to spray on the clear...
I have checked on different sites and the suggestions range from spray it while the paint is tacky, to wait a day or 2 and then spray, wait a couple more days and then color sand......
Just curious as to what people here practice...
Thanks for the info

Well, what brand and color are you spraying?
PPG's topline DBC and their lower line OMNI dont have the same recoat time, so it matters.
Also what is the temp range in your area? More info is needed...Eric

sher will sikkens and glasurit are all about 24 hours. any longer and you have to sand and recoat your base then clear. just wait till your base is dry 10-30 minutes depending on the temp and humudity then clear. there is no advantage to waiting an extended period of time.

I will be using Kirker paint, since I am doing this for the first time, and practicing on some spare parts, (fender and door). For the price of the paint, and the learning experience, thats the way I decided to go.....
They said to wait 30 minutes from the last base coat, the spray clear....
I was curious since I have seen trucks on TV not cleared until later, and board members usually talk about spaying clear after it drys, or the next day.....
Thanks for the help

With PPG u have a 72 hour window. I would not that long. There have been times were I would base a car at work than go home and clear it in the morning. Never had any probs. Never used that paint that u are useing but if it saies 30 mins I would go by that. Feel the paint if its dry to the touch should be good. If not dry enuff u could get solvent pop.

you may find kirker paints have a small window. I would not wait too long after I sprayed base to spray clear. If you do, mist the first coat of clear and let it get tacky then spray on a good coat of med wet for the next coat.
I went to a Auto Air Color paint seminar the paints are water based and they said there was no window of time on their paints. you could wait a year then clear it. I dont know about all that but good to know.
