View Full Version : Randomhero's Build Thread.. finally!!!
randomhero472 04-18-2007, 10:06 AM Im finally getting my own build thread! No cool story or history w/this truck, i purchased it last march from a fellow board member who drove it daily. Its a 67 big window-no a/c cab, bed will be swapped to fleetside bed, courtosy of all new panels from triplus, and will now be getting a complete make-over. I made the drive from oklahoma city to houston texas yesterday to drop it off @ a fellow board members shop, 72CSTC5 will be doing all of the body work and cleaning up-painting the frame-suspension. Im not going to reveal all of our plans, time will tell what we're doing but will give you a quick run-down
truck will ride on bolt-in air-ride front-rear, not crazy step notches and Z'ing.. Will have 20" grey or black wheels, No insane body mods either, doing 1 piece windows keeping the bumpers, door handles ect.. Taking the newer style buckets out and going back w/a typical bench seat Shaving firewall & putting a Vintage Air System, Timeline looks like 2-5 months, depending on 72cst's and my schedule and budget. I'll post up pics from yesterday, the before shots.. stay tuned guys
As i bought it (minus being lowered)

Yukon Jack 04-18-2007, 10:19 AM Look forward to watching the build thread. Gotta love another stepside build.
As a side note, are the tie down points substantial enough on the trailer? Would hate to see the truck get away from the trailer.
Spray-Bomb 04-18-2007, 10:43 AM I love it !!!
72CSTC5 04-18-2007, 10:47 AM Glad you made it home okay! The wife was telling me to call you last night before I went to bed but I said that you are a grown man and knows when to quit driving! Let the fun begin!!!!!!! Will keep you updated Luke. Everyone at the shop was around it like flies this morning. Everyone loves these trucks.
randomhero472 04-18-2007, 10:57 AM those tie-down points are bolted thru the floor to another peice of steel under the bed, and on a side not.. its going to be a fleetside, sold the step! thanks carlos, i was realy wishing my truck had autopilot last night, but made it home in 1 piece
BACKYARD88 04-18-2007, 11:25 AM I'm gonna keep an eye on this one. Isn't too far from me either...

The way I see it is we never have time for our own trucks so here is my plan. I bring you my 2WD Blazer and you bring my yours and we get these things done! I know their is a flaw in this plan but for now it sounds promising:rolleyes:
Have fun with this truck it looks to be in fairly good shape for starters..

72CSTC5 04-18-2007, 04:23 PM Sounds like a plan, you pay me to do yours and i will pay you to do mine?!! This truck is really nice. The only rust we see is the passenger rocker and part of the floor. Should make a really nice build. He is buying a complete new fleet bed to go with it. We will keep everyone posted!!
72CSTC5 04-18-2007, 10:28 PM Here are a couple of more Pics of Luke's truck this morning. These were her Glamour Shots!!

See, I did some work on that truck awhile back. I told the guy I had money waiting and would buy it if he ever wanted to sell. Then I look up and he'd sold it. I sure liked that truck. She could have been my girl....sorry, I digress.
randomhero472 04-20-2007, 09:50 PM sorry tx, im taking good care of her though:)

These will get some primer on them now. Welded up the hole for the fuel tank as well. Left side will be done this week and then on to the right side.

72CSTC5 04-21-2007, 11:33 PM No problem at all. I would have probably finished the other side today but had to leave work early for the wife's birthday party today.
BB72CHEVKT 04-22-2007, 09:40 AM randomhero472 I am talking to your bodyman about doing my truck if I ever get running. I would love to see your truck when he is done. How do you get there from OK maybe I can catch you on the way back for a quick peek.

i just come down from oklahoma city, take I35 to dallas, the i think it was I40 (or I45) from dallas to houston. you'll see plenty of pics on here during this process, but i'd be more than happy to meet up... carlos is truley one of the nicest and easiest people i've ever dealt with, he's been super accomodating and does some great work, best of all he loves the trucks just like all of us here! I HIGHLY recomend using carlos!!
72CSTC5 04-22-2007, 12:47 PM Thanks for the kind words Luke and I feel the same about him. He was very easy to deal with for the few months leading up to this project. We talked a lot about what he was looking for and such. Since I do not do these builds for major profit, since I have a paying job, I get to pick and choose what trucks I want to do and select the customers as well. Luke fit the bill perfect for me and I believe me for him. I was thinking last night I may outpace his expected completion date, however. How many times have you all ever heard that from a body and paint man!!!:)
70c10 04-22-2007, 01:44 PM You'll get some decent cash for those seats/console to add to the new parts fund!:)

Nothing better than a good referral. I've got a few things to figure out and get my motor installed then I will head south. I've been coming here for about a month and need to get off a$$ and work on truck. Truck not at house due to no garage and homeowners association will not allow so thinking about renting a place to work. Anywho. Yeah I wouldn't mind checking you out in Dallas if you got time on your way back.

Well now you have gone and done it:rolleyes: As soon as that is ever said some major thing goes wronge and time is lost. I thought you would have known this by now. Oh well some learn the hard way!!

OH... forgot to ask, have the 1-piece windows showed yet... they were suppose to be shipped 4/17?
edit:: just checked it online, still F'N backordered, i dont get it, they dont tell you backordered when you order it, its been over a month and still nothing, this is rediculous, put somthing on sale you dont have in stock:rolleyes:
72CSTC5 04-26-2007, 09:07 PM Well the answer is no! Sorry to hear that. That's okay though, I do not need the windows just yet. I have had it covered under the awning where we originally parked it to keep it dry for you. I pull it in the shop to work on it and then back out again.
BB72CHEVKT 04-26-2007, 09:13 PM keep the pics coming!!!!!!!!
cameeks 04-27-2007, 12:13 AM You get the windows from Brothers? I got mine from there and they told me that it would be another week or so.
GREASEMONKEY72 04-27-2007, 03:53 AM nice progress, always love the look of primer
randomhero472 04-27-2007, 12:26 PM i havent really given any updates on my end since this started.. Got word yesterday all my new tri-plus/goodmark bed panels are in, and i've decided to go w/a wood bed floor instead of steel. i've got the newer style seats sold (going back to bench... but still need one, anyone in/around okc that has one let me know!!) the rear air-ride should be done in the next week-two, and i'll probably be making another trip down there to do the front air-ride before paint, besides that what you see in the pics is whats happen'n, we'll keep you updated
OLDIRON69 04-27-2007, 12:54 PM :metal:
Man, your guy dosen't mess around!
bigjimzlll 05-06-2007, 06:50 PM I had someone complain about this post....You're not supposed to sell or try to sell parts except on the parts board. If you want to sell the windows and seats please post them on the parts for sale board http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?f=8
thank's
Jim
72CSTC5 05-06-2007, 07:12 PM Sorry about that BigJim but they were posted there a while back too in the parts board it won't happen again.
72CSTC5 05-06-2007, 07:14 PM On a lighter note, got some work on Luke's truck this weekend. Finished up the bodywork on the left pillar post where the fuel filler was welded shut and the left cab corner, and the rear cab panel. Will post pics tomorrow as my camera is in my truck and my truck is on loan!
Rokcrln 05-06-2007, 07:22 PM Are your sinuses yellow yet!!
You know for the first time in 35yrs they are not the color of what I am spraying! I finaly spent the money on a hobby air full face fresh air system and it is the best money I have ever spent!!
Trucks looking good! Keep that camera in your pocket next time!
Well back in the booth flash time is over.

72CSTC5 05-06-2007, 07:38 PM Dang, I know you spent some money on the fresh air system, several painters do not like them but I say for "cooler" fresh air blowing in your face, I am game!! Post pics when you are done on the paint.
72CSTC5 05-07-2007, 02:56 PM Okay pics as promised for my customer to update him as we are in a long distance relationship!;)
randomhero472 05-07-2007, 03:07 PM looking good carlos:)
BB72CHEVKT 05-07-2007, 05:11 PM Looks good. Can't wait to see it done!
72CSTC5 05-07-2007, 05:44 PM She will definitely look good. I can not say what all will be done or color scheme of things per owner's request but she will definitely drop jaw when she rolls out. The owner and I were in talks last night about rolling her out for her debut for Goodguys in October in Dallas. I have always built 100,000.00 dollar rides for people under other shop names. The first few I am doing at a reduced price to put my calling card out there for some under my name only!!
Idaho Outlaw 05-07-2007, 07:15 PM Looks like you are making good progress! Keep it up the good work.

randomhero472 05-22-2007, 11:51 PM oh wow.. didnt even see my own build thread until now:) looking good carlos!!
EDIT! Anyone else notice i might be having a problem w/the gas tank getting close to the pavement when we get the rear bolt-in notched and its bagged?? its currently sitting on the bumpstops w/o any springs, and the tank looks 3-5" off the ground, thats going to suck!!
skunkwerx 05-23-2007, 08:39 AM sorry for the sorry pic,but my buddies truck has the same tank and his truck lays the front crossmember on the ground.he dont have any problems.

smbrouss70 05-23-2007, 06:25 PM If you have XP, you can download this (http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe) and right click on the picture on your computer and select "Resize Pictures" and use the small setting to make a smaller copy. Then you should be able to put it in your post using the manage attachments button.
72CSTC5 05-23-2007, 07:17 PM Skunkwerx like your ride. Do you have any more stats on that thing as far as wheel and tire size and air bag procedures? I wish I could just bag and wheel my 72 swb cheyenne but the Home Owners association would probably kick me out of the hood!! Well, the little lady too.
