View Full Version : Convoy from North Texas to board meet
Plan on leaving from somewhere in Plano, after a big breakfast, around 9am on Thursday, July 5th. Google maps says about 8 hrs to Norwood, Mo. I figure about 10 hrs with gas, food and stretch stops. After all, we're cruising, not trying to break speed records. BACKYARD88 is already planning on hooking up. Anybody and everybody's welcome. We'll be going through McAlester, Tulsa, Joplin, Springfield. More the merrier! :)
texascowboy593 05-24-2007, 07:41 PM Count me as a maybe...I have alot of "irons in the fire" right now and I would love to convoy but I just can't say for sure at this time...
Longhorn Man 05-24-2007, 08:39 PM sweet, I didn't think Tx was such a reasonable cruise to the meet.
BACKYARD88 05-25-2007, 09:39 AM Just let me know where breakfast is going to be and when and I'll be there. Two things I love, trucks and food;) My drive is only about 700 miles each way.
I'm gonna have to find a place to eat up there. I was hoping for a Cracker Barrel, but they don't have one listed. There's one near my house on the South end of town. We'll figure it out!
bobvilla67 05-25-2007, 01:31 PM I might be able to leave on thursday but more than likely it will be Friday. If I am able to leave on thuursday,I will let you all know.
BACKYARD88 05-25-2007, 02:15 PM Wow Jay, there are Cracker Barrels everywhere but Plano. Only big name I see there is Ihop.
77-383 Step 05-25-2007, 06:58 PM There is a long time local restaurant about 1 1/2 blocks off the highway called Poor Richards. You would never stumble across it just passing through, but all the locals know about it. They have an awesome breakfast. If you are interested in that or something else. I would be happy to give you directions/phone numbers, anything you need.
Sounds like the right place to me! Breakfast is my favorite meal. Address would be great. As it gets closer we'll get specific on the time. If you can't cruise up to Mo. with us 77-383 Step, maybe you could stop by for breakfast!
LUV2XCLR8 05-25-2007, 08:46 PM :metal:
Glad you all are doing this, hope to get Convoys from every direction.
We here in TN are hoping for the same, it's 300 each way for me. But
I will be trailering mine, still hope to get a few involved in the route ;)
77-383 Step 05-28-2007, 10:16 AM Take exit 29 off of Hwy 75 and stay on the excess road until Denny's.(go through the first light) You are going to turn right between Denny's and Steak and Ale. This is Central Pkwy East. It will put you at Park, turn right onto Park. The second light is Ave K. Poor Richards is on the southeast corner of Park and Ave K.

This has a small map and the menu. I don't think that I can make it on Thursday, but I will try. If I don't get a chance to meet up with you guys,I wish you the best of luck on your trip. Hope you all have a great time.
Chris
BACKYARD88 05-30-2007, 02:24 PM Looks like an awesome menu they have there77-383 Step. I'm hungry already!
RicksTrucks 05-31-2007, 10:52 PM I had another post where I was trying to get a convoy from here, suggesting that we meet at the world's largest McDonalds which is at the Vinita, OK exit on the turnpike from Tulsa to Joplin. I may not be leaving until Friday, so the Thursday people can stop by - I am about 15 miles NW of the Claremore exit on the turnpike, just up on Route 66.
For those coming through on Friday, maybe we can convoy from the turnpike like I mentioned.
77-383 Step 06-03-2007, 11:33 AM Any idea what time you think you will be through here(Plano)?
BACKYARD88 06-04-2007, 03:28 PM Jay wants to pull out of Plano about 9:00 So I'm figuring we need to meet at the eating place around 7:30 to give everyone time to eat and let their food settle before heading out.
Man, that menu does have a bunch of good stuff! 7:30 sounds right. BACKYARD88, keep in mind the traffic is going to be awful this time of day, right in rush hour! I'm half considering staying at a motel on that end of town so I don't have to mess with the traffic Thursday morning! However, Wednesday night I'll just be getting in from a trip to Atlanta, GA. Just gonna have to see how it shakes down. Gonna have my truck gassed and loaded so all I've gotta do is swap keys and keep-on-truckin'!
A cruise by Rick's Trucks should be doable(is that a word?). That's what cruising is about!!
BACKYARD88 06-04-2007, 11:53 PM Ricks trucks sounds good to me. I'm considering staying in a motel also so I don't have to get up so early:lol:
RicksTrucks 06-04-2007, 11:59 PM I am probably going to bring a trailer if I can sort through enough stuff to bring to sale. But if I do, then I cannot bring my popup trailer. One idea would be if someone is passing by and is not pulling anything, then maybe they could pull my popup for me - there is a queen size bed on each end, so I would offer them a place to sleep. And if we can get some electricity - an air conditioner. My stove and refrigerator can work off of propane.
BACKYARD88 06-05-2007, 09:42 AM I don't need a place to sleep as I'm staying at the Days Inn but I'd be gald to pull it up for you if you need me to. We'll be driving my wife's 03 Chevy.
BACKYARD88 06-18-2007, 06:14 PM Jay, I've decided to go Head and leave town Wednesday afternoon and get a motel in Plano. I'm going to try and find something as close to Poor Richards as I can. I figured since we're only a couple weeks away I'd confirm that I'm still going and give a bump for anyone else that might want to join in:)
Thanks Mike. I'll be out of town starting 6/26 and won't get back into town till late in the evening of 7/4 from GA. so I won't be checking this once I leave town. My plans are firm for the morning hookup @ Poor Richards @ 7:30. We'll cruise by Rickstrucks and you can pickup his popup! Say guys, I've a 9000 watt generator I can drag along if needed. I might trade out it's use for being able to share the ac occassionaly during the day. We're staying in the Days Inn, but my Honey works in an office and I can imagine that July in MO will be warm! It runs quite a few hours on a gallon of gas(wish my truck did!)
BACKYARD88 06-20-2007, 02:45 PM Maybe you and Ricks Trucks can work something out Jay. He hasn't let me know if he needs me to pull his popup for sure yet but I want to go by there anyway and see what he's got:metal:See ya at Breakfast:cool:
RicksTrucks 06-21-2007, 02:13 PM Maybe you and Ricks Trucks can work something out Jay. He hasn't let me know if he needs me to pull his popup for sure yet but I want to go by there anyway and see what he's got:metal:See ya at Breakfast:cool:
Sorry, haven't been getting emails from my subscribed threads for the past couple days, then suddenly got a whole bunch this morning. Tell me again when you think you would be passing by Tulsa.
BACKYARD88 06-21-2007, 02:20 PM We're pulling out of Plano Thursday around 9:00 so I'd say Tulsa around 1:30 or 2:00.
RicksTrucks 06-21-2007, 02:58 PM Thanks Mike. Generator would be much appreciated and you can come in any time.
77-383 Step 06-21-2007, 06:15 PM Backyard88, you can try http://southforkhotel.com/ They are real close to Poor Richards. Fell free to stop by the house for a few beers and watch the fireworks. We will be grillin out with the neighbors that night.
BACKYARD88 06-21-2007, 06:23 PM Is Southfork a pretty nice place? I might take you up on that visit. I'll have wife and son in tow and it'd be nice to meet another member. Are you going to be able to meet up with us for breakfast Thursday?
77-383 Step 06-22-2007, 06:28 PM Yes, I think that I will be there for breakfast. As far as the hotel, I have no idea how good it is. It's just close to Richards. PLEASE, feel free to come over. We will be drinkin a few beers, but very kid friendly. We have a 2 1/2 year old and a 2 1/2 month old, but there will be lots of kids runnin round. We can usually see the firework from the house. We are only about a mile or so from the hotel. It would be great to meet you.
Spray-Bomb 06-23-2007, 11:08 PM I'm definitely joining the convoy, but I dunno if I'm gonna meet up with ya'll in Plano or some where down the line (I would have to leave my house at 6 to get to Plano in time to leave)
I haven't got everything planned, but I thing I may bring my trailer along with my 10x20 tent /w sides, generator, couple of fans, couple of lawn chairs, maybe a friend, ice chest, a case of blue Monster Energy drinks, some water, shop stereo, travel tool box, & a folding table
You'll notice my truck, as I'm tagging the sides of the bed with "SprayBomb"
Also, can I get some of ya'lls phone numbers so I can get a hold a someone to meet up with if I don't make it to Plano ???
Matt
cstanley 06-24-2007, 12:31 AM i would like to convoy as well, but I don't think I can leave until friday. i'm just going to be a bum this trip. no motel, no camper, few supplies, cooler, and a number of changes of clothes. I may take luv up on shower usage and sleep in the back of the blazer...maybe i can come up with a window unit air conditioner. and a long orange ext. cord to run through a window in Boss' house. lol. reminds me of a robert earl keen song.
BACKYARD88 06-24-2007, 07:12 PM Spray-Bomb, you have a PM.
cstanley, you need to leave Thursday so you can convoy with us:)
Spray-Bomb 06-24-2007, 11:20 PM Got the PM, thanks
cstanley 06-25-2007, 12:45 AM Spray-Bomb, you have a PM.
cstanley, you need to leave Thursday so you can convoy with us:)
hmm...i'll have to see if work can do without me
77-383 Step 06-28-2007, 09:07 PM Well, it's looks like I won't be able to meet you guys for breakfast. just found out my little girl has to get her tonsils take n out at 6:30 that morn. Offer still stands to any one wanting to stop by Wed night.
BACKYARD88 06-28-2007, 10:55 PM It looks like my son will be staying with his grandma instead of making the trip with us but the wife and I still plan to stop by.
kyull67 06-28-2007, 10:57 PM I'll join the convey on it's way through springfield! Will you be on I-60?
P.S. Sadly, I'll be in an '81 GMC. It's still nice, but it's no '67.
kyull67 - yes, we'll be coming out of Springfield on 60 east to Norwood. I'll PM ya with phone contact info. If there is anyone else wanting to hookup with us, here's the route.
approx 9:00am - 7/5 leave Poor Richards in Plano,north bound on US-75
approx 2:00pm - 7/5 arrive in Claremore, OK @ Ricks Trucks on route 66
approx 3.00pm - leave Ricks Trucks on OK 20 to I-44 east to Springfield, take US-60 east to Norwood, arriving approximately 7pm.
Folks, all these times are WAGs (Wild Ass Guesses). All depends on alot of different variables, however, if myself or Backyard88 has your contact info and you have our's, We'll eventually hookup and it'll all be part of the " '07 Board Meet Experience "!:)
texascowboy593 06-29-2007, 12:41 AM Looks like I'll have to get in line for next year. Things blowing up around here and time and fundage is short... Ya'll have fun and take butt-loads of pics! Be SAFE on the road!:truck:
Spray-Bomb 06-29-2007, 02:48 AM bummer
BACKYARD88 06-29-2007, 08:34 AM Sorry you can't make it texascowboy:(
kyull67, don't feel bad, I'm driving an 03. And even worse, it's my WIFE'S truck:rolleyes:
Spray-Bomb 06-30-2007, 09:06 PM Ok guys,
I plan to leave my house about 6 am & get to plano about 8, so i leave out with everyone in the convoy
I'll be riding solo & I haven't decided if I'm bringing my trailer or not
So if anybody want to ride with me, I've got room
Just Pm me if you want my number
Matt
BACKYARD88 06-30-2007, 10:38 PM I'll be pulling a trailer also so atleast I won't be left behind.
Spray-Bomb 06-30-2007, 11:57 PM Speaking of being left behind
How fast are planning to drive ???
50, 60, 70 ???
BACKYARD88 07-01-2007, 08:21 PM Jay said he wants to cruise without looking for the cops the whole way so I'd say we'll be driving the speed limit whatever that is. If someone can't run as fast the rest of us will just slow down:) We should have plenty of time so there's no need to get in a hurry.
Spray-Bomb 07-01-2007, 10:12 PM I was just wondering, cuz my truck can go fast enough
It just sucks down the fuel ;) :whine:
cstanley 07-02-2007, 03:52 AM well, it looks like i'm not going to be able to leave until friday noon at the latest. is anyone else gonna be as far behind as me?
BACKYARD88 07-02-2007, 08:30 AM I think Bobvilla is leaving friday from the Dallas area. And Rickstrucks is leaving from OK on friday also.
Spray-Bomb 07-03-2007, 10:33 AM I'm really excited !!!
I have a few things to fix on my truck today, then tomorrow I will load everything up... Yay !
I think I can fit everything in the bed, so I won't have to haul my trailer
BACKYARD88 07-03-2007, 10:55 AM I'm going to pack everything up this evening and head out late tomorrow morning. I'll probably be staying at Southfork Hotel in Plano. Still planing on visiting 77-383 Step Wed. evening. See ya"ll soon!:metal:
cstanley 07-03-2007, 02:55 PM ok, it looks like i'm rollin' friday morning.
RicksTrucks, i'm also available to pull your trailer if you still need it. I have a 4" lift, though, and it's not a box hitch (read: I can't put a drop hitch on) but I don't know if that would make a difference on your pop-up or not. Let me know. i'm trying to leave early friday morn, but i'm easy come, easy go. i don't have any time set in stone.
RicksTrucks 07-04-2007, 03:12 AM ok, it looks like i'm rollin' friday morning.

Thanks, as far as I know Backyard88 is still coming by to get it on Thursday. I hope to be leaving sometime Friday morning. Springfield is only 2-2.5 hours from Claremore.
BACKYARD88 07-04-2007, 11:44 AM I'm leaving now, got all of my trailer pulling stuff in the truck. See ya in Plano Jay and Matt. I'll log on when I get to the motel. I'll give you a call later Chris and let you know what time I'll be stopping by. My son is staying home so It'll just be me and my wife. See ya'll soon!
Spray-Bomb 07-04-2007, 12:36 PM I'm working on my truck in my moms garage at the house (raining)
So later today I'll be loading up, so I can leave early in the morning
I'M SO EXCITED !!!
BACKYARD88 07-04-2007, 07:07 PM Made it to Plano. Staying at the Southfork. About to go meet Chris(77-383 Step). See yall soon!:D
Spray-Bomb 07-04-2007, 07:31 PM Well I have good news & bad news
First the good
I'm loaded & ready to leave in the morning
Now the bad
#1
I have some stupid electrical problem, and may have to swap in my spare battery at some point on the trip
#2
I won't be able to run 70 MPH
When I went on a 2 hour trip yesterday, I hammered down the road @ 70-75 & my truck just can't handle that speed without OD
(temp, fuel consumption, & the concern of something about to break)
See ya'll in the morn'n :metal:
Spray-bomb - fear not, this is a CRUISE, no hammer down. I've a turbo 350 with 3.50 gears, no OD either. Generally cruise around 63 to 65mph or less. Just like the ad says, "this is a Pleasure Cruise".:) We'll only go as fast as the slowest guy (probably me) is comfortable with.
RicksTrucks 07-04-2007, 10:21 PM Just give me a call when you hit Tulsa so I can time when you will be here and be ready. Gave the popup a good bath today. Made the mistake of parking it under trees without a tarp. It has a new battery and a full propane tank.
Spray-Bomb 07-04-2007, 11:34 PM Well I'm hit'n the hay
See ya'll in tha morn'n !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BACKYARD88 07-04-2007, 11:49 PM I'd like to take it easy as well. I hate having to be in a hurry to get somewhere. I spent a few hours with Chris and his family and friends this evening. Super super nice people. Thanks again Chris, we had a blast. Hope all goes well with your daughter in the morning.
cstanley 07-05-2007, 12:41 AM you guys have fun and be careful. i'm rollin' at about 4am friday, so i'll see you then...
Trucks packed. Looks like the Beverly Hillbillies with everthing stuck in plastic garbage bags! Couldn't find the horseshoes. Shops a mess. But, I'm as ready as I get.
BACKYARD88 07-05-2007, 12:50 AM Have a safe trip cstanley!
BACKYARD88 07-05-2007, 12:51 AM See ya in the mornin Jay:D
RicksTrucks 07-05-2007, 01:02 AM Good night John Boy :)
BACKYARD88 07-05-2007, 06:52 AM One in every group isn't there...;)
RicksTrucks 07-05-2007, 06:32 PM Well I have good news & bad news

Well he made it this far, we charged him up and they are on their way to Norwood
RicksTrucks 07-05-2007, 06:34 PM Didn't get Mike before he headed out to lead the way, with my popup in tow, but here is the rest of the Texas convoy. Thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
Spray-Bomb 07-06-2007, 04:46 AM Hey man, thanks for the charge
I think I'm gonna pass on the tail-gate, but lemme know bout the rest of the stuff
Also, do you have a good 5-lug spare ??? (my spare went flat)
77-383 Step 07-06-2007, 03:13 PM i'm jealous. Hope you guys all have fun and be safe.
RicksTrucks 07-06-2007, 11:03 PM cstanley and I arrive just in time for dinner and boy it was good.
BACKYARD88 07-06-2007, 11:30 PM Couldn't have been better timing for them. They pulled up as the rest of us were making our way to the food:lol: Wish you could have made it Chris. It's been a blast.
RicksTrucks 07-09-2007, 12:25 PM Thanks everyone that stopped by the house.
Mike (BACKYARD88) - thanks for hauling my popup back and forth, that really helped me a lot. I had asked my wife to entertain you with refreshments when you brought the popup back, but she said she didn't know you were there until she looked out the window and you were driving away. I had especially asked her to offer Melissa some ice cream.
Jay (ADHDCARGUY) - great to meet and talk with you. Congrats again on the cowl hood. Be sure and post pics once you get it painted and installed. And thanks again for use of the shower before our cruise Saturday nite - the cruise for desert was the best idea. And Colin, Bryan and I all thank you for use of the generator.
Colin (CSTANLEY) - thanks for convoying with me and the help with my battery problem Saturday nite. Will be looking forward to comparing notes with you as I get my blazer road worthy.
Matt (SPRAYBOMB) - hope you made it home okay. Great to meet. I will see if I can dig out the parts we talked about and let you know when I find them. Looking forward to comparing pictures of your truck at the next meet. You showed the true spirit of us all in pushing forward to make the meet no matter what obstacle was put in your path. Driving our trucks is what it is all about. We drive them to enjoy them.
