dan42 05-30-2007, 12:24 AM Very nice - keep us posted -
jimmydean 05-30-2007, 12:25 AM Mirror shine! That's sweet.
GREASEMONKEY72 05-30-2007, 12:27 AM thats purdy, is the filler goin to be behind a fold down license plate?
Texasbigblock 05-30-2007, 12:32 AM yes sir, the filler lines us perfectly behing a liscence plate fold down holder i pulled off an 81 malibu....a little plasma cuttin' and it turned out perfect. Didnt really like the the idea of having it in the bed floor cuz i plan of this being a daily drive and want easier access. Guess i wasnt thinkin though......bigger motor+bigger carb+lower gears+smaller tank=not close enough gas stations....lol
I love black trucks...very nice
WinDancer 05-30-2007, 12:46 AM Gorgeous!
jsbgump 05-30-2007, 12:49 AM Looks great
Texasbigblock 05-30-2007, 12:59 AM Thanks for the feedback! I should be getting my interior part in within the next few weeks and hopefully the bed will be ready not long after and yall can see the complete truck. I started about a year and a half ago when i was 17 and on a min. wage budget it aint easy. nice to see it finally coming together! ANY MORE COMMENTS or COMPLAINTS would be greatly appreciated!!
Can't wait to see the whole thing!
jackyl9999 05-30-2007, 01:13 AM Gotta love black.:metal:
sjarrett71 05-30-2007, 02:20 AM I just bought a brand new 2007 Grand Prix that is black and the paint doesn't shine like that!! That is sweet!
shaneschevys 05-30-2007, 09:28 AM Sweet!!
rlm316 05-30-2007, 09:42 AM That looks great! Is that a 1st. generation camaro/firebird tank? I thought about going in that direction with my tank. You may need to take a look at some kind of a different filler cap. I have a bumper fill on my '65 pont. and have had a few 1st gen firebirds and when you take off with a fair ammount of gas in the tank it has a tendency to come out of the filler neck. I don't think these tanks are baffled so when you get a wave in the tank it sloshes around for a while. Again, great looking truck and good luck, Lane:c2:
Yukon Jack 05-30-2007, 11:50 AM ANY MORE COMMENTS or COMPLAINTS would be greatly appreciated!!
I think you are out of luck if you think you're going to get any complaints! That truck looks incredible!
Can't wait to see it finished. :metal:
killer71 05-30-2007, 11:55 AM who painted your truck?
Texasbigblock 05-30-2007, 12:47 PM yes its a tank i ordered new for a 68-69ish firebird/camaro. The guy who painted my truck has a small body shop here in central texas. He does mostly insurance claims but he is a good friend of the family.....can u belive it was only $4,000.....sure is nice to have connections!
drewcat 05-30-2007, 12:58 PM Hey man truck looks great! What part of central tx are you from? I'm from Brownwood but live in ft worth now.
1LoC10 05-30-2007, 01:20 PM wow, i would be scared to even touch that, let alone assemble it.... looks great
killer71 05-30-2007, 01:27 PM be sure and keep us updated!
nutsforchevys 05-30-2007, 04:08 PM Nice! Black looks great when done correctly!
Longhorn Man 05-30-2007, 04:41 PM the only complaint I have, is my name ain't on the title! That looks bad ass!
Texasbigblock 05-30-2007, 06:37 PM Thanks everyone, ill be sure to keep updating, all my interior stuff should be comin in pretty soon and once i finish the odds and ends on the 396, ill go ahead and hang the fenders..

jackyl9999 05-31-2007, 01:43 PM Good luck on assembly, Im nervous and Its not my truck.
Texasbigblock 06-05-2007, 12:44 AM hey everyone, just lettin yall know i got a bunch of parts in today so i will have some updated photos soon! I got my 1 piece side windows in.......any tips or things i need to look out for? thanks
Texasbigblock 07-29-2007, 09:59 PM Hey, its been a while since i posted some updated pics. Gotten pretty far since last time so the progress is pretty far. Hopefully my shortened driveshaft will be back this week so i will be able to finally drive her around after two very long, expensive years!!!! Hope yall enjoy!
1LoC10 07-29-2007, 10:09 PM looks great, glad to see another build keeping the 69/70 clip too
'68 longbed 07-29-2007, 10:11 PM beautiful truck. love the clean, crisp looking trucks.
ChevLoRay 07-29-2007, 10:16 PM I never knew how much I liked black. My truck is primered over white paint. But underneath that it is black....from the factory. Black cloth interior according to the info on the glovebox door. It isn't a CST....just a Custom.
Seeing yours just gets my mouth waterin'. I got a guy who is waiting on me. I'm waiting on the probate court to free up the $$$$. I had seriously considered suede but knowing the same prep goes for either finish, I finally decided it had to shine.
Keep us all posted. It's a clean truck, for sure.
2bits 07-29-2007, 10:20 PM My truck will never look that good, but man that is a nice teaser to what I can aspire to! Very nice!
68 short step 07-29-2007, 10:33 PM looks real nice
bad6772 07-29-2007, 10:47 PM great looking truck bar none
69GMCor70Chevy 07-29-2007, 10:59 PM Nice truck. After seeing it now are you still going to use that as a daily driver? I sure wouldn't put branches/garbage on that truck.
Texasbigblock 07-29-2007, 11:00 PM well.....maybe not daily, but i sure dont want it to sit in a garage all year. im plannin on takin it out on nice days and trips to the lake. NO BRANCHES OR GARBAGE!!! Appreiciate the feedback all!
BigTex 07-29-2007, 11:50 PM Wow, that does look great! Definitely something to be proud of.
mfarmer 07-30-2007, 02:45 AM Very nice, the black paint is very clean, almost like chrome. I am in Austin, TX is your painter close. NOW lets talk more about that gas tank. What year was it, what was required to mount it, was any frame mods required and how many gallons is it. I to would rather not put the filler neck through the bed or fender.
Bishops Trucks 07-30-2007, 03:42 AM DAMN! She sure is shiny. Can't wait to see it completed.
1bad chevy 07-30-2007, 05:58 AM the only thing that comes to mind here is dont park her on the street with the keys in her as she may become missing in action and and just so you know i will not put branches or garbage in it either lol just kiddin sweet ride man
Thealien 07-30-2007, 07:12 AM Beautiful!!
Stepside65 07-30-2007, 07:47 AM UFB! I've never seen paint shine like that. Simply beautiful truck.
Texasbigblock 07-30-2007, 09:20 AM Very nice, the black paint is very clean, almost like chrome. I am in Austin, TX is your painter close. NOW lets talk more about that gas tank. What year was it, what was required to mount it, was any frame mods required and how many gallons is it. I to would rather not put the filler neck through the bed or fender.
Its a tank thats supposed to fit 69ish camaro/firebird. No frame mods were required other than two pieces of square tubing to space the tank down 1 1/4 inch so the filler neck would end up behind the liscense plate. I just used metal staps that i found at the local hardware store and bent my own straps out of them. It was really an easy install!
Nice truck! One concern I have is how the gas tank goes beyond the frame rails. If you don't have any kind of steel support surrounding that rear, you'll end up in real bad shape if you get rear-ended. I have a Suburban tank that stuck out a bit and I just boxed it in with angle iron and my heavy duty bumper.
Yukon Jack 07-30-2007, 10:38 AM Beautiful truck and those rims look perfect on it!
Texasbigblock 07-30-2007, 12:55 PM Thanks Yukon! Just can't beat old fashioned cragars :metal: As for the gas tank issue.........I ran a piece of thick angle iron between the two rear bumper supports that werent on the frame in that pic to box it in. I kinda thot the same thing one night when i was lookin at it.
72BlckButy 07-30-2007, 01:38 PM Beautiful truck, would love to see some more pics of the gas tank and the filler.
Texasbigblock 07-30-2007, 06:29 PM i will take some tonight with the bumber on and from underneath for you!
see ten 07-30-2007, 06:33 PM Looks great! Black is great when it's done right! I would also be interested in how the gas filler turns out. Have you driven the truck yet? Just curious as to how well the filler is going to take the gas.
see ten 07-31-2007, 05:33 PM Does the gas tank have a vent? Or is it vented internally back up the filler towards the cap? I'm sure with it being a factory GM tank it has some kind of ventilation. I have just talked to people who have had problems filling their tank since their is no way for the air to be displaced while filling it with gas. It's looking good! Looking forward to seeing the pics of the filler with the bed and bumper installed!:)
Those are vented internally. Mine's in a Camaro :lol: but I usually don't have a problem filling it up. He shouldn't either.
Texasbigblock 08-01-2007, 12:41 PM i havent filled it at a station yet, only with gas cans, so far no problems, didnt get to take any pics last nite, worked all night on trying to get the hood on and fitting right :( :( :( . Thank god for aftermarket body panels, but they never do seem to fit just right....
ChevyDude 08-01-2007, 01:33 PM Awesome!!!
slimbailess 08-03-2007, 11:14 PM pretty truck, wish my painter took as much pride in his work as yours.... but at least i was able to find someone to paint mine black, about 5 shops turned me down... like to check it out sometime, you gonna drive it up to fort worth any? and do you know when the waco show is?
Texasbigblock 08-04-2007, 01:45 AM hmmm, not sure about ft worth. Waco has a show the first weekend of everymonth at the church of crist off the loop by whataburger over there. I know they are havin one tomorrow night!
57T210 08-04-2007, 07:03 AM Beautiful truck, would love to see some more pics of the gas tank and the filler.
Ditto. Nice solution. Could that mod be done without pulling the bed?
Texasbigblock 08-04-2007, 06:48 PM sorry, been really busy lately and havent had time to take more pics of the filler. it probably could be done without removing the bed but you'd be better off taking it off. Its just easier to weld in the new braces and drill mounting holes for the straps.
68GMC454 08-05-2007, 08:57 AM really nice truck..good job on it..
see ten 08-05-2007, 09:49 AM The tag on a sport bumper is a bit lower than it is on your step bumper. Do you still think this mod would work if the tank had to be lowered even more for the filler access? I mean I guess it would work but would it put the tank hanging down below the bumper?
Texasbigblock 08-05-2007, 12:08 PM well, it just depends on your ride height probably. I went with this tank because a may go with a 2" drop in the back at the most and i didnt want anybody behind me to see the tank hangin down. Right now its at stock height and it hangs down just a hair so you cant see it unless you get down eye level with the bumper. If you dropped it more it would be more visible but if u have a lower ride height you really woulnd be able to see it probably
Texasbigblock 08-09-2007, 11:57 PM finally got a few new pics. A few are of the tank with the bed and bumper installed as requested, got a few of the truck with the hood and front bumper on too. Also there are a few interior shots, since these pics i have installed the column and entire dash, just need carpet, door panels, and seats recovered!!! Finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel:metal: :metal:
BigSky71 08-10-2007, 12:35 AM So beautiful! Love black when it is done right, and yours is so right!
texanidiot25 08-10-2007, 06:27 PM Thats so clean looking. Great work.
Cragers forever!
Texasbigblock 08-16-2007, 11:56 AM Just a quick update: I DROVE HER AROUND TOWN TODAY!!! And legally too, well except open headers :) . That big block runs and sounds good! Gonna take some interior pics in a few days so i oughta have an update!
red69ss 08-16-2007, 10:30 PM Did you put gas in it if so how did that work out? Also what sending unit did you use and did you have to modify it? very nice looking truck!
aventur1 08-17-2007, 12:16 AM Very nice!!!! Keep it polished! Nice job.
Texasbigblock 08-17-2007, 01:36 AM yea, put gas in her earlier today, works good. I used the camaro sending unit. its the same hookup and all GM sending units are calibrated the same so its just plug and play!
Frizzle Fry 08-17-2007, 01:38 PM That's a great looking truck!
Texasbigblock 08-20-2007, 02:10 PM Ive been trying to work all the little kinks out of my truck because i finally have it street legal and have been waiting two years to drive it! Maybe some of yall can help me out. First off, there is the power steering. I have a new (rebuilt) pump that has plenty of fluid in it (not too much or too little) and it wines all the time, even when im not turnin the wheel. Then it blows fluid out of the cap and when i open the cap its full of bubbles. I know the pumps are supposed to be self bleeding and it should have bled out by know, but bubbles indicate air in the system still, right? Now for the carburation issue: brand new holley 750 double pumper, worked great for a while.......then died on me all of a sudden....held pedal to the floor and it started (flooded) but kept flooding. I cleaned out the needles and it worked great for a while and then started flooding again. i have an inline fuel filter as well as the two rock filters in the carb.......where is this trash coming from?!? Appreciate the feedback!
stynchrr 08-28-2007, 03:50 PM I can't help with your problems but I got to say that i a sweet looking truck. What wheel and tire size and back spacing are those? I really like the way it sits.
Tim
