Did you get the corect (for GM) guage? 90 ohms is what GM uses. If it's correct, start checking the circuit to the gas tank, cleaning any wire connections as you go. And, the float in the tank may have gotten "heavy".

did the old gauge work? If so that will eliminate any tank issues. Try making a temporary ground, touch the stud and see if the needle moves, this will tell you if the gauge is broken or just has a bad ground.

Purple banded fuse on the fuse block in the truck.I had the same problem, weeks went by then I found an old thread in here from 2003. You cannot see the break due to the purple color, or just replace that fuse even if it looks ok. It was a 10 cent headache for me. I tried everything, I was about to give up.

The tank is fairly new but it has been sitting for some time with fuel in it. never had a gauge hooked to it until a few weeks ago. i'm thinking the float is bad it's a poly tank and i think it may have sweated and done some damage to the float. gonna drop it and check it out thanks for the help guys.
